I have three Leafs (long story, shout out to their customer service) and I use them with a single blade. My original Leaf has a visibly different blade gap and is more aggressive/efficient than my newer Leafs. Unfortunately, one of the clamping arms broke after dropping it so it is barely hanging on. I've been trying to figure out what I should get to try to replace it. I prefer something with a tilting mechanism and a more aggressive shave.. how do you compare the Element to the Leaf? Or what would you suggest to try? So many new products these days lol.
OG leaf owners UNITE! Did you ask them if they can fix it? I wonder if they have any parts that could be used to keep the older Gen going. I spoke to them a few years back about the razors blade feel and performance, and I believe gap and exposure was adjusted to make it more beginner friendly. That said I agree - the Gen 1's are special. No the Element is not going to give you the bite the OG Leaf has (bottom slot) - atleast not compared to mine. I would say it feels like the mid slot on an OG. OneBlade Shave Genesis (or their Ridge Collab) is more like the bottom slot, but since it is a different blade all together, it's a little like comparing oranges to apples. 100% OG Leaf guy, and team LeafShave all the way, but the new Proof is probably exactly what you're looking for. Very much like the Leaf in terms of performance for me personally - but with a smaller head. I have even heard they may do some "adjustable options" for it. Absolutely Awesome razor IMHO if you want a DE blade that pivots. Great guys too with awesome customer service (when they aren't swamped).
@@SubieShaves Always insightful. That explains so much! I keep going back to the non Gen 1 every couple of months wondering if I am just imagining things. Lol. No wonder that original one I have feels superior for my preference. Now it all makes sense, lol. I appreciate your feedback a lot. I'll take a look later and see if I can't do a part swap for the broken piece with one of my newer Leafs. If all else fails, that Proof does look mighty nice.
I thought about trying an injector just not sold yet on it. How do you like GEM razors. Can you recommend any GEM blade options? I just got my AC Shield 🛡️ razor in stainless, with a pro feather very smooth. Just ordered the GEM Shield 🛡️
Try that Shield....you may never want (or find) anything better 👍 I love mine, especially in TI. The OneBlade with a Gem is exceptional (in my personal experience) but may not suite everyone (pivots are love/hate for many people).
Welcome back!!! Great to see another Subie video. You're going to get used to the new bathroom before you know it. When I moved, I was so messed up! That first couple of weeks felt like I was doing everything left handed and while wearing mittens. Now it feels like I actually live here, and this is just normal. The sink is different, and I don't have counter space like I used to. I'm closer to the mirror now, so I use mostly badger brushes so I don't fling lather at the mirror. You'll adjust very soon. I hope you like the new area!
The mirror is WAY closer hahahahahah I felt like I was shoving my hand in your faces hahahahah Thanks for the support and the push of encouragement Lee!! I figure the only way to figure it out is to keep at it! Can't get better not doing it right? Awesome to see you here!
I wonder if they will make more!? I was told it was a "limited" time thing. Makes me so happy people found the razor - I myself somehow missed it! Glad to hear it shaves as good for you as it does for me!
@@drytool it takes a little effort, you have to remove the spine and I shim mine into place ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-45SUfz2LafQ.htmlsi=7QlsiqX7O5DkKWQ- 👍
I think the company is working on some sort of new blade or new head design. Honestly I love the OneBlade design but I don’t find the angle effortless to consistently get a good shave with no nicks. I’ve been using it for years and I wish it just had one flat angle like a cartridge or even a Henson.
@@SubieShaves I’d be surprised if they didn’t ask for your feedback, but I guess they already know your stance. Their top priority this year is to offer more options than the FHS-10.
I see you are playing around with the Ridge head. I took mine apart, and I am looking for options for modifications. Awesome shave, I'm still in a love affair with the Proff razor 🤣
Dudeeeeee now you are talking! I have heard of a few guys that have tried / considered making their own handles form the head! It would be cool to see what you come up with!
I have the SS Oneblade that was the first one they came up with. I'm not thrilled with the lack of control of blade angle for face shaving. I'm not a fan of the blades at all!
@@mikeperritte well if we keep asking my hope is that they'll eventually get around to making it! Thanks so much for tuning in and sharing the shave with me today
Oh Yeah, He is back! Happy to be able to start the week off with a new Subie Shaves. The new space looks good it looks like the banner fits pretty well. Great shave as always!
@@linkage12000 thank you my friend!! Feels good to be back and boy am I excited about the shaves coming! Thanks so much for your continued support and positivity!
What is up, my brother!? So glad that you're back! I wasn't sure if you were going to come back, because I've been around a minute and some people just fall off! What a coincidence, I just picked up Bazooka from Alien Shave last night, so seeing you using their stuff is pretty cool. The Element looks pretty nice and maybe that's the one I should get my good friend to try. Leaf, High Proof, and several others just hasn't clicked with him, but maybe this would. The Feathers are good for about three shaves and the first shave is just breaking in the blade. To me, I think Oneblade should come out with a new design, similar head design that uses either 1/2 DE blade or an injector blade or both, same pivoting style, and has a handle similar to the Enders Speed Shaver. Something to inject some kind of excitement into the brand and give the customer some choices for blades. They don't make blades, so there's no point of being locked into a proprietary blade that isn't even that good. Feather makes great blades, but not that one. Take care buddy!
@@lastshadow9351 nahhhhh just had to get life reset up! Back and READY to dive head first into some awesome BBS shaves! The FHS blades seem to work better shimmed for me, but they still are a 1 and done kinda thing - so I still will be going for Gems. Bazooka sounded so good - bright pink soap! 🩷👌
Who will watch 20 minutes non stop SHOVE procuts in people throats . And everything is "amazing " and "smooth " . You literally don't get break to breathe man . Half second after razor get of the frame we get hit with "amazing new base " of thi$$ amazing soap . I mean c'mon. I know Shield is good company , but take a break from shilling for one second
My 80 something year old razor buddy in France just found a real Darwin in the wild at a flea market for $10...lucky man, and he is a straight razor guy.... Mine cost me $900 ( with box) . Had to order this set up today , $45 for the head and $26 for the handle, look forward to trying it out .......RAD is what it is, there are far worse things...lol
Focus Dynamic pivots which I really like - and it also has a much sleeker head. I would say if you want a pivot go for the Focus Dynamic, but if you like traditional SEs the Parker feels more like a classic razor on the skin. I will also say that both the Focus Dynamic and the Parker are a "you'll love it or absolutely hate it passionately" 🤣
Still waiting on mine! But Kaleb makes a fantastic razor so I bet it's good! I also heard, take it for 'as now', but Yates is no longer longer making the Drakkant Ti - take that for what it's worth.
@@SubieShaves yeah seems to me. I heard that somewhere. Also, I’m sure they are having a hard time keeping up with demand for their own stuff the way he has taken off. I also ordered a paradigm diamondback titanium, which I believe he was baking for them also, and I hear that that was going to likely be the last batch that he was going to do and then they were going to have to find someone else.
Great video with interesting hacks! What Dremel bit did you use to flatten the post on the razor? I have a VC2 and a VC3 that I am planing on modifying.
Never snagged the SS ascension actually! I actually spoke a little to PAA and apparently this Melon is very similar to their original Ascension design. The new updated Ascension has some revisions. I really love the Melon SS. I have moved my Ascensions and kept the SS Melonn 👍 Thanks for watching
The YAQI one is very hard to place the blade correctly compared to the Leaf Twig. It drives me crazy during my daily shaves. Because I used to clean it thoroughly after each shave, but considering the price, it's OK.
That's awesome 👍 No, this razor head is VERY thin and ultra precise. It fits the ACs and that's it unless you want to really trim and shape your blades
You probably get asked this all the time, but for someone coming from a Gillette Fusion 5 blade monstrosity, would you recommend a Twig or a Thorn as the place to start?
Honestly, in my opinion, I find staring with a really mild razor like the Twig can be challenging because: A) it can limit closeness and cause a new shaver to go back to their cart. With good form and the right blade the Twig is excellent, but for a new shaver, finding the right combo may be a limitation. B) potentially hinder the learning /adjustment to using a safety razor coming from a cart. For me, I have noticable amounts of efficiency and performance between the two models (not everyone feels that way) - and I prefer the closer shave with the Thorn. Both will bite you with bad form, so my thoughts are go for the closer shaver. Again that's just my .02 - the flip side is I do know many people that enjoy the Twig over the Thorn. Very much a "use what your skin and stubble needs".
Hey, great video as always. I agree the outlaw evolution is one of my absolute favorite shavers. I have two titanium and one stainless steel as well as the bronze limited edition he did recently. As someone who prefers older razors, I’m surprised that some people would describe this as aggressive. I think mild to moderate at most in my humble opinion. I’ve yet to find a blade that doesn’t work well in it and I think you’re right that it has a really great balance between comfort and efficiency
Appreciate your comment and all your posts and SOTDs on FB! Glad to have you here Chris! The Evolution was quite the razor, I really enjoyed having it! Definitely mild and easy going! Thank you again for the support!
for max exposure setting, you seemed to shave at a quit steep angle by riding the sb. with the slight bending of the blade. it is as if you are scraping instead of shaving. wouldn't that be very uncomfortable? my observation might be wrong. Thanks!
Not a bad question, but If it was scraping there would have been blood and irritation. I tend to ride the bar with all razors, but with this one, it's just where it felt smoothness to me 👍 max exposure definitely takes some adjustment!
thanks for the quick clarification. is it in general, for a same razor head geometry, it is smoother by riding the sb with the larger blade gap? I am still learning the wet shaving technique. Thanks
Ok, I just received my Giveaway box. I would love to put pics on here for everyone to see. When Subie said, “you won the box,” it was a slight underestimate. DANG!!! This box is heavy and loaded with Subie Surprises!! Josh, buddy, this thing ROCKS!!!! Thank you!!!
Subes, appreciate the content. As a head shaver as well, I have a very important question for you: what is your #1 preferred razor to use for head shaving? For myself, I started with the Leaf but it was too aggressive for my melon, so I moved along to the Henson mild which I currently use...it's very good for me for a quick & no nonsense head shave, but I think there is still probably something better out there. I mostly use CK6 and Stirling soaps (I like a hydrated lather, not "dry"), and I have a mix of blades as well. Thoughts/opinion?
Thanks for the comment and question KevinR! Appreciate a fellow baldie here sharing the shave. TL;DR Lots of excellent shavers out there - even I myself waffle back and forth on my "favorite". I think what you've found is excellent, and truth be told, it could be a one and done type of purchase. I myself am always impressed when I reach for my Henson Medium/Aggressive - it's quite the autopilot shave. I can say this - you could buy 25 razors - all different from the Henson, and appreciate each for the experience they offer. Will it be better, closer, easier - those factors may be smaller than you or myself can tell sometimes, and choosing a TRUE winner can be different day to day. However if you want to experience other skin feels, more or less audible feedback, less/more efficiency - there are some fantastic options. Remember though different doesn't mean "better" all the time. I myself love the Yates 921 H and EH razor (with the right handle) as it is similar to the Henson feel, but slightly smoother for me. I like they stand behind their titanium products as well (unlike Henson). One of my favorite 3 piece DEs. But maybe you want something WAY different functionally than a Henson - like the Proof - where the razor pivots and still takes a 1/2 DE blade. Again a fantastic, fairly mild shaver, different than the Henson, but excellent for me - with a smaller profile than the Leaf. Take those 2, and you could do a 180, and try something like I use in this video - which gives a more vintage skin feel - with modern updates. Very different than the Henson, nearly incomparable. What I'm getting at is there is a tonnnn of awesome razors, I myself would be bored with just one shave - plus my skin seems to do better with a change in rotation. If you're looking for options - I've done a few videos here 🤣👍 Thanks so much for the question!
I have the closed comb Parker Variant. I do the usual 3 pass. First pass with grain set at 3.5, second against grain at 2, last pass across grain adjusted to 1. Not a cut or nick. For kicks, I re-tried with my old Gillette Mach 3. Two nicks. Weird, eh?
Huge for me honestly. I know a few reviewers that tried it and either loved it or hated it, but everyone noticed a difference. Worth a try in my opinion 👍
Finally took the time to perform the Subie Stack Hack Attack!!!! LOL!!! I used it on my Hybrid. Can’t wait to try it on The Ridge!! This was the SMOOTHEST head shave, and very efficient. Efficient is not a word I normally use with OneBlade, but the Subie Stack did the trick. DANG!!!!! Thanks for being the weird mad scientist of wet shaving…..that is a good thing!! Keep the stuff coming. We all love it!
Crazy right? Simple and yet effective method to really amp it up! I know you said you had struggled with that razor previously - so I take it - it's finally giving ya the BBS!? The GENESIS weight does seem to make anout a 33% impact on pass for pass closeness with my testing thus far, but I actually think the Ridge may be a tad smoother? You'll have to tell us all how it goes for ya!! Loved hearing you got a fantastic OneBlade shave!
@@SubieShaves Love the feel and weight of The Ridge. Color rocks too! Did the Subie Stack (buffed down the Feather blade, which is now my shim stock......and loaded the GEM in front). Absolutely a game changed....BBS...like glass folks!!! Gotta try it. Huge PROPS to the SubieShaves man!!! This guy should have 10,000 followers!
Brother Josh do you possibly have some way that me and you could possibly talk to each other in private so you can learn more about me and I can you and so we can talk about doing our get together and shave together.
