From what i have read this machine has 3 redundancies, 1) electronics. isolated motors and batteries work separately into a controller that monitors performance. It can lose a motor on each side with out crashing, 2) It can fly like a plane if necessary 3) it has a ballistic parachute 4) it can land on water or land.. I read it has thousands of hours of flying time on proto type with out crashing. In my opinion it is as safe as driving down the high way. People are saying it isnt practical. I say that it is as practical as a motorcycle or a boat . For those that dont like it, i dont care, Its not for everyone. I dont like golfing but many people do. There are enough of us that like the vtol that we will make it a go. To be the first commercial transitional Vtol, Impresses me. Its my hope they offer an experimental version for pilots so we can improve the speed and range. If they use gasoline engines on the in board motors, i think range could be increased to close to 200 miles.

Your right mainly. If you watch the movie the 5th element. The cars flying all over. Hologram stop and go lights. We had the engineering to make those cars in 1977. At xxxxx, we designed a black box the size of a 48 quart cooler. We mounted it in many things for testing and showing off to the joint chiefs. I PERSONNAL, was the pilot of a golf cart, that we gutted and installed the box. I took 4 of us 200 feet off the ground, for miles in a controled fight. Airforce sent fighter jets after us. We didn't, file flight planes, the project is still CLASSFIELD. The last craft I piloted with the box weight was over 150 tons. Pentagon, feared flying tanks. We proved wings are not needed. And the shape DOSEN'T matter. Seeming that you have a IQ. I started my quest in Nepal. Perfit carved stones, 1000 years ago. Lifted up 8000 feet and placed on a mt cliff side with no roads to get there. What we designed was 1000 year old engineering with modern tools. So , like I said anything can be done.

I enjoyed the simulator time at Oshkosh! As a real pilot with minimal helicopter time, it would feel more intuitive for the vertical controller to be on the left like a collective, pull for up, push for down, and release for altitude hold. Directional movement controls on the right and eliminate the trigger to change modes. Also, the sim landed nicely but it was a blind landing. I would like a camera view like my car does to nail the landing spot and for safety. Best wishes with development.

@blackfire8455
@blackfire8455 Год назад
When it comes to joystick control scheme, you have to keep in mind that BlackFly is not like any other aircraft design, and is completely computer-flown with the 'pilot' only telling the flight computer the desired direction of movement. It is a shift of how to think about things, and the priority is simplicity for the average non-pilot to figure out quickly. Seasoned pilots of traditional aircraft designs will have to un-learn habits and shift their frame of mind. It has two joysticks because the second one is a redundant backup if there is a failure of one of the joysticks. It is an important aspect of the design that all safety-critical components have a redundant back-up. I wouldn't be surprised if the sale version does include a down-facing camera to help with visibility during vertical landing.

@@xbpbat21x I doubt it. They had no alternatives. When presented with 20 minutes of flight not to exceed 62 mph, almost every available alternative is a better choice regardless of the price point that this comes out. If this is a fun toy for rich kids, then there ya go. However, for practicality, walking is almost better. I believe if this becomes tech that gets leveraged for something down the road, then perhaps it has value other than demos at airshows proving only that we can put a human in a drone. As is however, flying slow for 20 minutes may be beneficial as an air pod in a big congested city that goes back and forth between charging stations, a lone businessmen can use to get to their office or something but the demand for this in reality as an alternative to any existing mode of transportation has to be near zero. All of that said, I don't know if this unit is the final draft or just a proof of concept. If this thing is going on the market in this form, I think it is silly for a number of reasons not limited only to its lack of practicality. No wheels (I am guessing to save weight) having to tow it, that ridiculous AOA, weight limitations. The vehicle in this video is little more than a novelty as is.
