The biggest thing missing from all of these videos is simply a silent (meaning no music - no score) RAW test flight with all audio just being produced by the people's reactions and the electric motors. No fancy cinematography… No score just the raw deal.

Someone invents the new flying machine, shows a video, and all you can do is whine and bitch about the soundtrack... Which is FREE like the video. Aaaaaah shuddup. Fucking whiner. What the fuck have YOU done with your life that even comes close to matching this? Loser. Get a life. This was a great video of a great invention. Why is there ALWAYS a WHINING BITCH complaining about stuff they are completely incapable of achieving?. Since when does the opinion of a loser matter?
@voicetube
@voicetube 6 лет назад
That's right Volga, I agree! I wish they would have the music "shuddup!" and keep the audio more simple, raw and truthful :-) A little more seriously now, I actually LOVE the video and only made the comment because I did admire the vid and the invention so much and would love to hear/view a version of it a bit more "in the raw." It appears a couple other people agree with me as well. But I'm sure many agree with you too. You do make a couple valid points; I should have given credit where credit is due (before whining about the way the video is presented). As for me being a loser, etc.… now there you're just being a troll. I mean, why go there at all. That's just totally not cool. I may or may not have achieved anything as stellar as this flying vehicle creation, but there's absolutely no need for you to hate on me like that. Constructive criticism should be just that - constructive, not mean-spirited and damaging. (Come on… there's enough of that on the Internet already).

Fair enough there may be hurdles to cross, like noise level at takeoff or range limitations but holy shit, for the most part, that's a major step towards personal/moderately priced VTOL transport right there! Almost every prototype of a flying car so far has been some weird, car/plane hybrid, that looks deformed and struggles to get around corners. The fact that this thing has such a steep takeoff angle pretty much completely negates the need for roads, and looks super mobile in the air compared to its mutant, winged predecessors. There's a tidal wave of energy density storage and improved battery technologies coming, and adaptions to the design to reduce noise and improve air mobility will go a long way to creating a near future in which most of us are whipping around the sky. Bring it the fuck on

Finally somebody gets it!! I'm a pilot and want a plane or an ultralight or powered parachute really bad but can't really afford anything like that right now so I've been thinking about diff ideas about something that'd be super small, VTOL or less and electric and this ticks all those marks. And I really think this concept or a close variant of it is going to take off big time in the next decade or so like the car and aircraft did in the early 19000s

They could have just designed it with 4 fixed motors like an r/c Drone and it would still fly VTOL plus every other direction possible! They’ve over-complicated this. Oh wait, the JETSON does exactly that plus has many more thousands of test flights! The “wings” on this aren’t for flying like a conventional plane, they could not generate lift, they are just a structure to hold the 4 + 4 motor configuration.

Best yet from what I can tell, Bravo! Improvements I can see needed (top of my head) before public release: 1) The ability to safely handle winds over 25mph -> more propellers? (dual layer blades?) stronger engines? improved automation programming to auto-correct for wind gusts? 2) An answer for what happens when you accidentally land upside down -> yes, it will happen, perhaps propeller blade guard-housings? with these you could power yourself to flip back over without hitting the ground with the blades?

Jimmy Jango canadair did that in the 60s with the cl-84 dynavert. What they don’t tell you about here is that they probably have 30 minutes of flight time. And if the power system fails this thing will not glide. It will fall like a boat anchor and you will die unless you have a ballistic chute and are high enough to use it. It is certainly a technical achievement, but still not very practical.

C'mon people, this is clearly still in the development stage. It show the future for sure. I guess one of the biggest issues will be the weight issue. Once you try to get it Federalized, they will make you add all kinds of safety stuff, then add wheels, maybe a way to see what's below you? All this will add lot's of weight. This is gonna be the enemy for this thing.
@churrocharcharm
@churrocharcharm 6 лет назад
victor van dyke They need to work on "crumple test" like normal cars do, in case you like... crash lol. They need a better landing system that doesn't just use the bottom of the vehicle. As you said, weight could be an issue (especially if you're a heavier person, or you want luggage or something). For now its a good one-person vehicle if you want to have fun, but practicality is about a 4/10 so far.

+CharChar They don't bother crumble tests too much with planes like Cessnas cos you are gunna die anyway if you hit anything head on, cos you can't fly slow enough. But with the BlackFly it can go slow (like a car) and so crumble would be a good idea (for slow flight).
@swisstraeng

CharChar well, to land you can just add 3 carbon skids, I guess they would take an additional 15kg to the already low 250pnds of liftable weight...
@Justwantahover

+Traeng I reckon small spring loaded stick skids on the wingtips (like some gliders have) would be light and it would keep the wings level. But forward an back rotation is necessary for VTOL operations (I think). It does on the ground what it does in the air. It tips.

IMO each engine and battery needs to be independant to each motore with battery failover power management, and the system should offer redundant flight control. So concurrently losing 2 or 3 engines or 2 or 3 batteries should still afford a soft emergency landing. The flight control system needs to have triple redundancy, with isolated power supplies for each system. Only then can you skip the parachute because of weight and because of N+2 redundancy for failure designed into the flight system.
@odmccullo

I can see what they've done there - at first it seems odd that landing you cant see, but its a very clever design, that when you're in FFF you are sitting bolt upright almost, and its using the wings. It negates using tilting wings and thus is a VERY simple design and is cheaper to make. I Like it.

There aren't going to be flying cars above cities. Every collision will be fatal. Insurance premiums will be sky high (lol) because of the inherent risks and large payouts involved. Regulating consumer air traffic will take major planning and setting up new infrastructure. It would be a nightmare to safely integrate flying cars into existing traffic urban plans. Hate to rain on the parade, but this will remain in the Jetsons for the foreseable future.

The sad thing about this is that flying machines are very unstable when it comes to strong winds/rain. You see flights be cancelled all the time during storm, and you don't see the same with cars, and this is not even some Airbus but a very small light little flyer, it will be destroyed during winds. So even if this thing works and is efficient, imagine this situation, you have to go from point A to B right now (for a meeting, for example), but there's a rainstorm right now, you can't use the machine. So you have to resort to a car anyway. And people will think, why did I pay for this if I have to drive a car anyway?

Aerodynamically unsound: Unstabile due to nearly symmetric airfoils front and back o CG Probably too little wing area for unpowered glide at any reasonable speed No possibility what so ever for unpowered autorotation No tailfin - completely lacks dieectional stability, only substitute for that is exessive use of engines for stability Is an aircraft, not any "flying car" by any means Battery powered, meaning miniscule range Is basically yet another quad/multicopter. One thing people just don't get is that you can convert a trash can into a multicopter with off the shelf products, does not mean it's practical by any means. But doable - certainly.

@LegateMalpais

This is not a plane, this is a multicopter with benefits. Those benefits being that it can lift off for the very few minutes of powered flight that the most modern batteries can provide. It will never see production like all other gazzilion different multicopters for , *ehem*, "everyday use". And speaking of planes, and helicopters for that matter, as I said this thing will never be able to make an unpowered emergency landing because it won't either glide or autorotate, and will fall like brick both physically and as far as airworthyness certification goes. And in case you may say "oh but those parachutes for small planes" forget it. For any VTOL/STOL every single gram counts, this does not have any to spare.

+cuill Less rotor hazard and faster top speed cos the props are nearly horizontal (like a plane) in fast flight (and vertical on hover). The pilot ist tipped 45 degrees forward and back. Good idea cos it's so simple, but has it's drawbacks with a bit of discomfort. Nothing's perfect but this is great cos it's transitional and still simple and what comes with simplicity is cheapness and lightness and way easier to make than a tilt rotorcraft (and does the same job). One or two seats (side-by-side) only, otherwise it would be more like a rollercoaster than a flying car.

The limited wing rotation means it has to sit on its arse first to land or take off vertically. This seems to be an odd thing to do and unnecessary. Maybe they will fix it in the next model. Otherwise does look good in flight and in transition. Styling is ugly. Why not have small leaf spring type composite blades that are on each wing tip as landing gear and suspension? It seems to wobble from side to side on landing and touches down on its narrow belly first, again quite odd. Despite my comments overall I am still impressed and as you’ve shown it with so many passengers already flying it then that gives much faith in the tech and redundancy you’ve built in. Good job. Keep going with the development and you should have a winner.

Video clearly shows it taking off in 10 ft run. It only needs to upend for pure VTOL, which is a pretty reasonable compromise when you consider it doesn't have to have wings that rotate.

The pilot is tipped 45 degrees forward and back.

The sheer lack of specifications on the website and in this video make this all seem very shady. Are you just looking to get investors only to bail on them when this project goes south? People need more facts than some blond lady's opinion about how it feels like snowboarding.

It is not correct, my opinion: it is simple illusion and this is one drone. And why? Look the pictures and a camera angles: not clear, not correct, just cutting here and here and here... Why is not the recording process complete? One people enters the machine. Start the engine and go and flying and the camera follows him, and follows all process? Why? It is fake, simple fake and very smart cheat.

The parts that are real are the cockpit/pilot shots. The rest is CGI (some glitchy, such as 0:43) and 1/4 scale models. Find independent video of a full-scale version being flown by a human - it doesn't exit, even with supposedly 12,000 miles logged and 2800 takeoffs and landings. It's vapor-tech looking for further funding. I hope they can build it, but they haven't done so yet. Is Paul Moller involved with this organization?
@kissbela7409
@kissbela7409 6 лет назад
Not CGI. Smart camera angels and not total, all close-ups. It is fake and illusion, yes, your opinion is correct just not CGI, one drone and smart camera angels and dummy. Not real-people in the machine - machine is a drone -with just dummy

I think this is one of the truly most realistic designs of this type of craft. It has some level of redundancy to handle at least a single failure, but also the fact that it can fly like an airplane without the complexity of tilting rotors, etc is absolutely ingenious. I am curious how it responds to the failure of an outboard rotor, but I'm sure they've dealt with that in testing. This is on my bucket list.

@uchkambob

It's a one person drone. Innovative design, though. The angle of the wings and motors allow for a natural transition to forward flight, where the wings take care of lift and the motors provide the thrust, without having to rotate the wings. That would be a hoot to fly.
