Can't wait till these are affordable for normal folks! Can't even afford a house right now, gotta save that $190k for that first lol. Amazing vid!

It looks perfect for what I may need, a way to hop from a mountaintop home down to a garage with regular cars on the nearest highway. There’s a road of wretched winding switchbacks that I would love to hop over.

Question…if there is an electronics failure or multiple blade failure while in flight, can it be flown to the ground safely or do you become a slave to gravity? Additional safety protocol may need to be considered.
@qubit0002

Cool but hope it doesnt achieve mass adoption until there's A/ autonomous integration as there's way too many accidents on the ground already

The aircraft does have an auto take off and auto land feature during critical phases of flight; however, it can be hand flown completely.

Pivotal, please market a homebuilt experimental version that is more affordable! Where's the N-number on this airplane?
@pivotalaero
@pivotalaero 8 месяцев назад
Building an eVTOL is easier said than done! Our aircraft operate under FAA Part 103, meaning that they are Ultralight Vehicles and not airplanes, so they are not registered with N-numbers.

I am a licensed pilot. When you come out with a kit plane for 2 people, experimental category with some petrol engines and a range of 250 miles. I will buy one. Right now i can buy an airplane that will carry 4 people, 120mph, range 500 miles, for half this price. EVTOL is nice but not that nice. Why should i buy your overpriced product? Look at the competition. Air One is 150k, Faster, cheaper, longer range, 2 people. Thats what i am looking at.
@Neogentronyx
@Neogentronyx 8 месяцев назад
@@jbird6609 imagine telling the Wright brothers, "cool it can fly, but can it travel 150mph and carry 2 people for 250miles?" Obviously this is new technology, and that has ALWAYS been expensive! It takes time to develop, you think the planes you fly just evolved to where they are overnight?! 🧐 Additionally, battery tech is a rapidly growing field as well. Things take time, and they aren't free. The empty weight of the Pivotal aircraft is 348 lb (158 kg), has a maximum payload weight of 220 lb (100 kg) and has maximum takeoff weight 568 lb (258 kg). The eVTOL prototype has a take-off weight of 868 kilograms (about 1,900 pounds) and the capacity for 250 kg of payload (about 550 pounds). Its maximum speed will be 155 miles per hour. OBVIOUSLY apples to oranges here, these vehicles are targeting completely different use cases and are in early stages of development. Or do you also compare the Gulfstream G650 to the Cessna 205, 206 and 207 like that is a normal thing to do?🧐
@jbird6609
@jbird6609 8 месяцев назад
@@Neogentronyx This is not a technology thing like you imagine. Its a regulatory thing. They chose to built a 190K $ ultralight so you dont need a pilots license. Think about it. If you spend that much money, having a pilots license is not a barrier. "Air one" is an EVTOL with more range, speed, and payload for 40,000$ less. You have 40,000 to pay for flying lessons and get 4 times the airplane. The black fly is for sale , when you buying one?
@Neogentronyx
@Neogentronyx 8 месяцев назад
What does me buying or not buying something have to do with your initial comparison of two completely different use case aircraft? Where in your initial comment, which I responded to, did you mention anything about regulations? Speaking of comparisons that are silly, did you know that the Lillium EVZTOL comes in at $10,000,000.00 USD? Jetson ONE would have been a fair comparison as it shares similar specs, and only costs $92,000.00 - $98,000.00 The HEXA, comes in at $495,000.00 The XPENG Voyager X2 Comparable to the AIR ONE, is expected to be in the range of $126,000.00 - $236,000.00 USD. The RECON EVZTOL (comparable to the Black Fly), comes in at $160.800.00 The MUCH SMALLER Hover S3 limited edition was priced at $150,000.00, "plus a compulsory $10,000.00 USD flight training package" The MUCH Smaller XTurismo comes in at $550,000.00 I get that you do not like the pricing, but usually such costs are driven by a multitude of behind the scenes factors that we are simply not privy to. "Not a technological thing like mentioned" You mentioned speed, and range. Perhaps you are unaware, but this is an EVTOL, so those things are very much directly affected, and limited by current technology. It's just a fact. Battery technology will be a determining factor in both of the concerns you posted about, including price point. It would be GREAT if the price point came down and scaled with the specs, and competitively with other craft in similar classes, and it likely will someday, but until then, it is what it is. As you can see the price points are ALL OVER the place. I guess, I am just not sure why you didn't realize that, and picked THIS one out of all the others even though there are FAR higher ceiling priced EVTOLs in this class.@@jbird6609

Just do a Musk analysis on the the cost of the constituent components/materials and you will have you answer. My guess (and it really is a complete guess) is that the parts, today, cost less than $50k. That number may well fall with time, particularly if the motors etc become cheaper with volume production but probs not by much - unless you really do only need a range of 20 miles.

@@Pilot_Perspective86 Perhaps, for only a portion of the flight. The Pivotal web page specifies that both takeoff and landing are “Auto”, and it also mentions the craft’s “cruise control” feature. Also, the controls (from previous videos) have no direct linkage; they’re more a “I suggest you go that way” which leaves it up to the onboard software to actually do the piloting.
