I don't know why this makes me laugh but at the beginning he must have had to film himself getting in the elevator wait for the elevator door to close then pause the video get back out of the elevator grab his camera and set it back up in the elevator for the internal shot 🤣🤣🤣 that feels like a lot of work for such a seemingly simple scene 😂😂😂 bravo you're doing a great job!!!!😇😇😇

Star Wars feels more like fantasy than science fiction because it's a "space opera." It's character-driven and the science doesn't really matter but it's in space. I'd argue you could call it "science fantasy" because yeah, the Force. It's a magic system.

@Wackaz
@Wackaz 2 года назад
@@sabrinagibby4167 Exactly my friend, well said! George has always called Star Wars a space opera, because that's exactly what it is, and I love it that way. As OP said, Star Wars is about character, not about trying to be accurate to a scientific quota because it needs to fulfil action scenes in a "realistic form." No, it's a fantasy, set in space, with family dynamics and tragedy, and that's what makes Star Wars so perfect, wonderful, and meaningful for so many people: the fantasy is what allowed the films to summon the universe that we know and love to this day, with all its creativity, characteristics and escapism.

@@BabyGirlTiny Smh, to a degree you kinda answered your own question. The thing that gets me about a lot of people in this world is to a degree, you’re never satisfied. You say you want character development but when you get it, now it’s. Oh this is boring or not the Buzz we’re familiar with. Well, drr, that’s what character development is. The way the movie ended showed you this needed be told first to build up to Toy Story 1 Buzz(hence him getting Thee space suit in the end). You have to take the Toy Story movies storylines of every single event out of it because this is like they’re doing an adaptation of a book, though this movie is supposed to before that. So because this is more realistic, serious so to speak. It’s own entity and not a story to mesh with other toys. Somethings are going to be different. Hence Zurg being an older Buzz, Chris Evans being the VO etc. Once more people realize this, then the movie will be more enjoyable. Buzz needed to learn to allow those to help, how life can pass you by when you do everything on your own. Which he still struggled with in the 1st movie. The 2nd Lightyear you can tell will definitely be like what other people here said. I’ll be moving on now.

I just feel like there is so much lore given to the background of the character of toy Buzz, and there is so much this movie had, but also didn't have, that I just can't feel convinced this movie was the in-world inspiration for the action figure Buzz. Like, I can believe this movie existed in world, and even was what potentially got Andy excited about Buzz Lightyear, but I feel like the original Buzz was based off of a show, and this was like an origin story film adaption (like Underdog or something), and it took creative liberties from the source material that caused great controversy in the Toy Story Universe, but in our Universe isn't that big of a deal. The only thing is, Lightyear was supposed to come out in 1995 (shocking visuals for such a thing, I know), and Barbie said that "in 1995, short-sighted retailers didn't order enough dolls to meet demands", implying that the Toy Brand off the series started the same year as the movie adaptation release, which just doesn't work.

I think it's supposed to be live action in the Toy Story universe. I mean there was some good looking Sci-Fi movies from the 80's like Aliens and Star Wars 5 and 6. Also The Fifth Element overall looked pretty good and came out in 1997 so I could for the most part see a live action movie like this coming out in 1995. Then again maybe it is animation, Andy's SNES was putting out like PS3 level graphics in the 2nd movie.

From what I can muster up, Buzz Lightyear is that kind of thing where it's TMNT or Marvel/DC. There are a lot of spin-offs alongside the main one. Lightyear is one of them. Toy Story 2 showed another in the form of Utility Belt Buzz, the continuity where Zurg IS Buzz's father. The main Buzz is definitely the main Buzz, but this then would come into thought if Star Command is the original show. I want to say it is, but then Adventure Begins kinda messes things up.

1. Andy is basic for having wanted a Buzz Lightyear action figure, I definitely would've chosen sox or Izzy. 2. In the beginning when they have the "this is that movie" etc, I was expecting them to show Andy in the movie theater at the end going "that was amazing I want a buzz lightyear toy" OR for a action figure ad, so they could connect the world without it seeming like a last minute choice to connect the movie with TS 3. Buzz was not super likable, and it felt like him CHOOSING to continue on with the mission meant he was choosing to not continue growing with Alisha and that was kind of an asshole move. I thought he was going to go once and end up 50 years in the future. 4. SOX IS THE GOAT! they continued him being unreasonably helpful so much that it became hilarious and wasn't overdone at all. 5. the entire movie was just one thing going wrong after another and I didn't like how much the characters messed up, it was really hard to watch at times because I was just asking myself what else is going to go wrong! Star Wars is a space opera, a specific genre of sci-fi. It's described as a soap opera in space. I would argue it's not real science fiction and, like you said, more in the direction of fantasy. Star Wars was the first of its kind and it's where the genre originated. Lightyear is more in the genre called hard sci-fi. (Originated in Star Trek and, yes, Interstellar is also a perfect example.) But within this genre, I do think they could have done a lot more with the concepts they introduced. It feels a bit hollow. Hard sci-fi is known for tackling difficult abstract concepts that make you think. It's philosophy in space. P.S. Star Command is probably based on Star Fleet (from Star Trek).

And tbh I think this being an origin story and then having a bunch of space cop stuff in a tv show would be really awesome. I mean they allready tease gama squadron of sector 4 and the 3rd end credits scene. I honestly think just a wnd movie isn't enough and there setting up for a whole show potentially

I’ll be honest, 6/10 for me rn after first view. Messing with the canon messes with my head already, Chris Evans I think does a great performance but I don’t like Buzz’s character. I like Hawthorne and Sox but the other 3 were kind of annoying to me, they make an attempt at humor but I felt like they didn’t hit for me. Third act does pick up for me and it ends strong but I really felt like I was muddling through the movie up until the “meat sandwich break”. The beginning was honestly a very less impactful “Up” copycat, and with some rewriting it could have been more heartfelt. I’ll probably watch it again and solidify some thoughts but rn, it’s on the lower end for me

Personally, I don't think people should care about Lightyear not accurately portraying our 90s movie era this much. This is a movie existing inside a universe in which toys can come to life. So, fairly different from ours lol. Fictional. Its 90s could've had completely different politics that would have allowed more POC and gay people seamlessly appear in blockbusters. It's not like the human politics of Toy Story were discussed in any previous movies before. Also, it's Pixar... I'd say their worlds always aim to appear much happier than our reality. And I'd say most of us wish real life classic flicks were more diverse from the get-go because it would've been so much easier for everyone today.

My take away from this film is a lot of the references in this are here because they knew that was stuff buzz would say in this film and then in toy story but also I like to think that this film was running off of its spin-off show to bring in fans in the toy story universe especially kids like Andy and I feel like a lot of kids in universe were not invested in lightyear when it came out in universe so they brought him back for younger audiences hence buzz lightyear of star command movie and tv show and the twist with buzz being zurg makes since for the show. I think they rewrote the characters for the show and added new characters but kept buzz and zurg heck the director said that the aliens in the show and toy story universe were made by pizza planet. So in the end I think the show was a way to introduce younger audiences in the 1990’s to the character so they created something new to appeal to younger audiences and this is a thing that happens in real life with most movies and shows.

I just saw "Lightyear" today and I really enjoyed it. I thought that Alisha died because the mission failed and they built a statue of her afterward. (I mean they did at the end, but I wasn't expecting it to show up at that point in the movie). And the Zurg reveal was the biggest plot twist for me. And I whispered to my brother that he looked funny because his head is too big for his body. But he still gave me Darth Vader vibes: "Join me and together, we can rule the galaxy." There were a lot of plot twists in this movie, but I enjoyed the element of surprise. My mom told me there was a gay kiss in this movie and I was worried it was going to be between Buzz and someone else. I was pleasantly surprised how they didn't overexaggerate the fact that Alisha had a girlfriend, they were very casual about it. And the kiss was no more than a second long. It's a shame that we don't know her son or her wife's names, but oh well. And the scene of little Izzy with her grandma was so adorable!
@Enriqueguiones

I don't know a single Buzz fan that liked the cheap Zurg twist. It's an awful choice that dismisses both characters and makes no sense whatsoever. Zurg should have been Zurg. Ming is not related to Flash Gordon. The Mekon is not related to Dan Dare. Killer Kane is not related to Buck Rogers. Why can't we have a fun pulpy space adventure? I just don't get it. The old "Star Command" cartoon wasn't perfect, but it handled the concept WAY better than this movie. So, in short: I'm sad and extremely dissapointed.

I liked the movie, it wasn't Pixar's best but its fine... and I have a theory about the movie. Surely you all have seen people saying _"Lightyear_ is not the movie Andy saw as a child, is the reboot he went to see with his children as an adult", but the fact that this movie sort of reminded me of late 90s flop _Lost in Space_ made me think that _Lightyear_ is a reboot, but not a modern reboot of a 90s film, is the 90s adaptation of a 60s TV show... or maybe even a 50s comicbook. That would also explain why the _Star Command_ cartoon is so different, the cartoon is another different adaptation of the 60s property, maybe from the 80s, that Andy watched on VHS because the film made him interested in the whole franchise (like a kid in 1999 that liked _The Phantom Menace_ so much it rented the Original Trilogy on a Blockbuster)

I do like the beginning and how it showed everyone getting older and things changing as buzz travels through time but the whole planet was kind of bland and not really colorful like couldn’t they have fixed it up more since they’re gonna stay there? Or maybe show more different locations by traveling to other planets? Idk. They could’ve given more personality to side characters I do like them but that just makes you more connected with them, and I love socks he’s probably the best character in the movie for me. I feel like the whole Zurg thing should’ve been different, Imo he should’ve been mean at first for some other reason and then actually be nice, and that way buzz can learn lessons from his future self kind of like in meet the Robinsons when Louis met his future self, but overall it was an okay film.

Yeah... I feel like they could've gotten around some issues by writing this like they're doing a Cinematic Universe. Either Aim more for an Origin Story for the character the Movie's Toy is based off. And more importantly, either Save Zurg and his Empire for later, maybe create a villain that's tied to Zurg. Or have Buzz rise to the occasion *because* he was fighting Zurg's forces. Or like, ignore the Origin Story idea and just jump right into the thick of it. Let's follow a Buzz that's already deep into his career before tusslimg with Zurg.
@BlazingKhioneus
@BlazingKhioneus Год назад
I completely agree. It tries to be two simply incompatible things. It tries to be a buzz origin before the cartoon's star command, but it wants to have its cake and eat it too by having Zurg in it. Like, if theyre gonna use a completely original cast of characters for the movie, including sox, go all the way and give us a unique villian. Maybe have him fight a more ambivilant force like the plant monster from the planet theyre marooned on or have a different space colony that ended up there fighting them for resources. Something other than a fledgeling Zurg. Heck, they couldve corrupted sox and had him turn into this cobbled together mass of scrap metal to be the hulking big bad that way-it'd be easier to write him out for the future of possibly actual star command-then give us a touching moment after the dust settles to have buzz cusp the badly damaged toy sox body in his hands as the old sox wishes farewell and leaves behind the fuel crystal formula or something.
