Pixel has color science on point.. the superb white balance.. iphone photos are too warm for my liking. Zoom also much sharper on Pixel, just look at the 5X in night time, Pixel is so sharp. Video looks on par with iphone, though Google should improve on the lens switching. Better colors on the Pixel's video, agree on what MKBHD said. Yet again another wonderful camera comparison using pictures and examples that absolutely no one else would use or take. Random buildings and cars driving by the street are the true staple of any RU-vidrs camera review. Forget the fact that people use their cameras to actually take pictures of people or children inchallenging situations like low light, being indoors or being in motio because those are the real situations that actually challenge a camera. But they won't show you that because all you'll get is grain and blur from everything besides a pixel. Keep those random building pictures coming, they truly show off a cameras true purpose and ability!

The fact that it has big sensors for all the lenses you can see more detals on the 5x on the pixel. Its crazy. Might sell my s23 ultra for one the only downfall is when taking night pics the noise is so noticeable. The only android phones I never had a noise problem with were oneplus 7t and 9pro that i had
@RennieAsh

They do a fair bit of NR to achieve that. iPhone and Samsung sometimes keep noise in for more details, though Samsung has a weird mix of applying excessive NR sometimes and then having noise other times.

Agreed, Pixel video still looks stuttery with ghosting frames. My 6 pro looks terrible in panning videos, makes me nauseous watching it play back. Also noticed when zooming in, the subject will be in the center of my screen but watching the video back, it'll be in the upper right or left corner instead after software has aggressively chopped off the sides in post processing. Looks to still be an issue on the 8 Pro, when he's holding both cameras still but the Pixel appears to be drifting back and forth while the stability software adjusts the edges.

The ultrawide lens is a huge win in lowlight and even the main sensor captures a lot of light as well. Even in video without video boost, Google is right in step with the iPhone and that's saying a lot. Very excited about this. I'm still not sure what happened to their portrait mode since they switched to new sensors on the Pixel 6 but if you stay in 1x it's usually really good. I used to take portraits with the telephoto and add the blue in post on my Pixel 6 Pro. Looks like it's time to come back to Pixel!

Thanks for the review. I have a question though. Were there any camera/phone updates applied on either of these phones prior to your review? I ask because I am seeing lots of inconsistencies in the brightness and low light control on the ip15 pro as compared to the reviews that were made immediately after the ip15 pro launch by other tech reviewers? Same photography/video scenarios ip15 did poorly before but in your review as per my opinion, I felt it did better in particular, when faces were concerned? Though overall, I still think p8 pro did a great job. Tks.

I always recommend the pixel to people who don’t want an apple iPhone as that’s the only android phone I would personally use, due to how great it is at taking photos. As for video, the iPhone is still the king. The smoothness, stabilisation, the transition between the lens, and the consistency is so good on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I do love the vibrant colours on the pixel however! Both top class phones.

Pixel tries to bring up the shadows a lot. Sometimes they look good, sometimes it dulls the natural contrast of the image. But overall, photos from Pixels have always looked good. I'm surprised how similar the shots looked for most of the comparison. But when it comes to video, the footage was just a little more stable from the iPhone, lesser lens flare at low light, and more organic from the front facing camera.

Wow. Pixel is catching up in video! I can't wait to get my P8Pro later today in the mail and doing some comparisons with my P6Pro. In this comparison, it looks like the iPhone has caught up to the Pixel in photography as well. Overall, I'd give photo still to Pixel and video still to iPhone. The biggest difference is that the iPhone's main sensor has that image shift technology which helps keep it steady. You can especially see this in lowlight jitter. The faster processor in the iPhone also has something to do with that.

The iPhone's continuous video capture feature offers excellent performance, and the Pixel's video quality is impressive. However, The Pixel's video quality is great, but when zoomed in, the video quality tends to fluctuate. In terms of back cameras, both the iPhone and Pixel deliver exceptional results, it all comes down to personal preference. Again Pixel's selfie camera has some improvement since the previous model, but the 10.5MP resolution on the Pro version might not be as competitive or as appealing it's a big turn off. Apple, on the other hand, has consistently delivered strong performance with their selfie cameras. Both phones offer amazing features, and I'm eagerly anticipating your video on the upcoming Samsung phone. I'll be looking forward to it! 😄

I tried a whole bunch of Android smartphones this year hoping to find something that would make me switch back to Android, even though I am 100% in the Apple ecosystem (iPhone, Mac mini, iPad). The only one I found that could replace my iPhone is the Pixel 8 Pro. I didn’t encounter the same issues I usually find with Android smartphones. The voice command works perfectly (unlike other Android devices where, for some reason, I can never get the voice command to work on the Gboard keyboard). Additionally, when setting up a new phone, you can have an exact copy of your old Pixel, just like you can with a new iPhone. This isn’t the case with Samsung, etc., where you end up having to put all the apps back into folders yourself, reorganize everything, etc. In the end, I found that the photo and video quality were not as good as on the iPhone, so I kept my iPhone 15 Pro Max and returned the Pixel. However, I’m still looking forward to seeing the Pixel 9 Pro XL. I would be very happy to see Google reclaim its crown as the king of photography. They have the resources and talent; I don’t know what’s missing for them to achieve it. Having a disability, voice command allows me to write very quickly without exhausting myself, so it’s indispensable for me. Additionally, I don’t understand why, when copying data from an old Android smartphone to a new one, you don’t get an exact copy of what you had on the old one. You have to reorganize everything, redo your folders from scratch, etc. This is a basic feature, and Android is advanced enough to have this functionality. I will never understand this.

Google, having a lot of technologies with artificial intelligence, was unable to make a smooth zoom while recording a video (I mean the smooth movement of the cameras). and is this the best phone for shooting video? During the light part of the day it can still cope with video recording without falling far behind the iPhone, but in the evening it doesn’t

Is the comparison done on latest final 9.1 camera version?

In the last comparison with pixel 7, i commented that the skin tones and skin texture are much better on iphone. Meanwhile, DXOMMAK tested iphone and classified it right to Top - Best video performence. Here, with the pixel 8, my opinion remains the same. Better video on Iphone, 5 x Tele better on Pixel 8, like already was with pixel 7. 0:05 Great main camera 4:30 selfie video comparison 9.05 Selfie low light video comparison. 10:40 Great low light main camera

Both impressive, but I prefer the stills of the Pixel. In daylight the light areas are less washed out and there's more details in the shadows, and in night shots the colours in general have more realm and the light sources are captured better. I don't find video so interesting.

sucks that Google still can't do smooth transitions for zoom.

Pixel video can be jittery with zoom and it's not as smooth in general. Especially when changing lenses. But damn if it ain't crisp. I really want this phone now lol.

Great video! Pixel improved video a lot! Iphone is just beating it by slightly better stabilization and lens smoothness on daytime & HDR on the wide lens at night time. Other than that they're so close on video, I'll take the Pixel for Phofos thoe!

Is it just me or the front facing camera low light videos look better than the rear cameras take?

For me the pixel is better at almost everything except night video. something that the iPhone does much much better than the pixel Is the transition between the different cameras in a video which is very noticeable on the pixel and nearly flawless on the iPhone

So true! The transition between the Pixel's lens during video is so choppy. Always bugs me.

I find that daytime photos are less saturated and much more natural than in the past; for night photos there's no match : he still the king !

I find this comparison very interesting, some minor mishaps on Googles part when it comes to focus of few photos, overall much better dynamic range, reflection processing, more details, almost perfect white balance (subjectively, sadly, more warm than Pixel 7 Pro) etc. in pretty much every picture and video ... but man look at that iPhone 15 Pro jump compared to iPhone 13 / 14 generation, they improved a lot of things. I mean last year Pixel pretty much wiped the floor with iPhone when it comes to photography and this year Pixel made another step forward and improved while iPhones made a leap and IMHO not downright suck any more.
