Looking at upcoming pixel art games that have a release date in 2019 or later. These pixel art games represent the best and most interesting games, to me, that I've seen recently.
This last year we saw some really great pixel art games come out that has completely changed my mind on what a pixel art game can actually accomplish.. problem is there is a loooot of garbage when it comes to pixel art styled games due to the relative ease, that it allows small teams or even single developers create art for their game.

Another fantastic video. This is quickly becoming my go-to sanctuary for a number of more obscure games I wouldn't have heard of otherwise. Hazelnut Bastille is an instant grab for me, while Re:Legend gives off that wondrously reminiscent feeling of Monster Rancher/Harvest Moon with a dash of adventuring. Slightly disappointed in it only having local co-op, but I'm still going to give it a spin. If you couldn't tell by my avatar, I'm a huge fan of the SNES-era aesthetic; great channel!

Very nice summary. While not an indie game, I wanted to remind you of the 2019-slated game "Waven" as well (we discussed it in May). It's a sprite-style, tactics-based MMO with *tons* of life skills, as well as outstanding visual and musical charm. It seems to check just about every box you mentioned liking here (plus the floating islands). Ankama (French dev) is now updating pretty regularly. In terms of scope, the game will likely follow its predecessors (Dofus & Wakfu) in offering semi-hardcore PvE with a SOFT cap on leveling (you can grind levels for years), and hardcore, very skill-based PvP.

A little constructive feedback: It would be helpful to show the name of the game the entire time you're talking about it so I don't have to go back to find the title later after you've convinced me that it's interesting. Just small text at the bottom would be great.

Hey. How about trying SFD on steam if you like turn based battle like FFT? It is a SRPG Rogue-lite which has a demo version. It is not even near polished but it has some charming point if you like those kind of combat. (I am the dev).

i have To ask Fevir, whaT microphone do u use To record ur audio? iT is doing good. i recenTli bough one of mi own and now i know noT all microphones are born equal

That's one of the first time I've gotten someone say the audio is good. I'm using an SM58 - but most of what makes or breaks a mic or audio levels is the room/setup when recording the audio and how you treat it/mix.

I've lived that shift in video game preferences not long ago, I was in a kind of burn out of all those online games (mostly pvp), and went back to some good metroidvania platformers, some were pixel art styled, but my favourite of all time has been Hollow knight. I highly recomend anyone to give it a go.

Would love it if you put the title of the games you're talking about on screen because I can't understand if you're saying the title of the actual game on screen or if you're making a reference to a game I'm supposed to know. Ex: You mention "The Last Knight", or is it "The Last Night?" See what I mean?

You already played Enter the Gungeon? is a roguelike bullet hell with a pixel art style very simple but the game is really well done. The game has really good jokes with the guns, the enemies, the bosses and is really hard to complete till you get used with it. If you never saw it, take a look.

PIxel games are a dime a dozen, a few "bests" are going to slip through the cracks. Though I do wish people stopped producing HD art for ads, splash screens, then giving us barely detailed pixel art. Looking at you Celeste. Could use more HD art games that are actually good. Crosscode I'm torn on, mostly because of the context.

There is a really good indie turn-based strategy game coming up, the devs are putting a lot of effort and love into it. I'll upload a demo of it and open a Kickstarter campaing soon. ;)

I can say that My Time in Portia is a great game despite being 3d and not pixel. It doesn't have a lot of farming like Stardew does, but it still has a lot of charm despite still being a work in progress. Been playing it since the earliest point in its early access, it was good then, it's still good now and its more fleshed out too.

I will never understand why Tactics style games never had a huge following. Ogre Tactics, Final Fantasy Tactics, and even Disgaea were all really fun and innovative games for their time and they still hold up well to this day. Hell, even Fire Emblem still gets made, though I have my personal gripes about them in this day and age. Maybe its because people don't like to plan or prepare for something and just want to shoot, swing, or nuke others in multiplayer.

Most tactics style games play more like puzzles than strategy games. They run a very fine line between so easy that they are boring, and so 'hard' that they are optimisation problems. You will probably notice that the vast majority of popular games have huge elements of mechanical skill. Someone who plays LoL or DOTA2 or even Fortnite has a huge amount of knowledge, probably more than an FFT player. But ultimately it's the feel of real time games and mechanical skill that most people enjoy. Even if you compare only real time vs turn based strategy, real time is vastly more popular. It feels better.

@@PointyGorman I think its more of a matter of perspective and conditioning. Growing up, JRPGs like this always felt like a challenge since every decision felt like it mattered, even if it was turn based. Like if you wanted to resurrect a fallen ally, or risk losing them forever to get that final hit on a monster that threatened a lower level or weakened ally. So of course, single player games benefit the most out of these kinds of mechanics and decision making Real time games, however, are made with multiplayer in mind, so of course they would require a more mechanical level of skill for players to figure out. Getting the best of one's resources in the most timely manner possible and using them to your advantage against your opponent is often times more fun, so I understand the appeal. Just because one is more popular than the other doesn't really diminish the fun factor since people can enjoy them in different settings. I still find them to be both fun, but I do hope more games like FFT exist later down the road.

The Iron Oath pixel art hands down beats most of these titles. Unfortunately it an in-depth Tactical RPG with world building and not another side scroller "Dark Souls" game. So it naturally gets overlooked by the community.
