Hi Im have an issue - I followed everything but when simulate the relief only shows a few high bumps leftover, not the tree design. What am I doing wrong or is there a view setting I’m missing?

Hi there. It could be that your operation's Max Depth parameter is not set low enough if the simulation is showing is showing that the cuts are shallower than the tree design. It could also be that your tool definition doesn't include a flute length and max length that are large enough to accommodate the canvas Z size - which you can override using the "Ignore Tool Lengths" option on your operation's parameters.

@@CharlesVanNoland Thank you - I had followed the tutorial exactly, but altering the Max depth from .2" to .4" now shows a nice finished, detailed simulation. Excited to Carve now, thanks!

An idea for a tutorial video. The "Canvas" concept is kind of confusing and could use a bit of explaining. The way it looks, If using a material that's 1 inch thick, and you want to remove 0.1 of the surface and carve a .25 relief, the "Canvas" total Z value would be 0.35 ? and set Z-zero at the top ? This would leave a .25 relief on top of a .65 base?

Hi there. The canvas is a simple heightmap volume that cutpaths are confined to (except rapid moves between cuts, which will go above the canvas). Yes, if using the top of the workpiece as Z=0 then you would blend your layer(s) to the canvas to occupy the 0.65->0.9 range of the canvas' height. Layers are positioned relative to the bottom-front-left corner of the canvas. The simplest thing to do, if you have an image or model you want to cut, is to just set your layer's Z origin to 0.65 and Z size to 0.25. Then the top of the layer will be 0.1 shy of the top of the canvas volume, leaving that area open for cuts to remove. A simpler thing to do is to just make your canvas Z size to 0.35 if that's the deepest you want your cuts to go, then you just make sure everything else is setup (layer position/size and Z-Fill) to leave the 0.1 margin at the top. Hi Alfredo, thanks for the feedback! Since these videos were recorded there has been the addition of mouse cursor hilighting to make it clearer what/where the mouse is clicking. Future videos will include the cursor with this increased visibility :)

It's possible to enter bad parameters for generating a toolpath due to the complexity of filtering every and all parameters that can cause runaway cutpath generation. Update to v1.70b and try the new built-in interactive tutorials that are accessible via the Help menu or send us an email at support@deftware.org explaining how to re-create the crash.
