It was the evening of January 26 and the Comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) was getting as close to earth as it would be for this historic visit in our cosmic neighbourhood. I did capture this comet back in early January, but it turned out to be very small with my equipment so I wanted to revisit it.
I was also contacted by several of my subscribers or channel visitors wanting me to do a complete step by step tutorial so I thought I’d do just that this time. In this video I will show you how to process comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) using PixInsight with data from my monochromatic camera and LRGB filters.
Data for this image: 20x60s L, 20x60s R, 20x60s G, 20x60s B.
Total number of exposures 80 with a total integration time of 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Processing: PixInsight with LRGB stars.
Equipment: SkyWatcher EvoStar 80ED Pro (0,85x FR/FF) and ZWO ASI294MM Pro on SkyWatcher HEQ5 Pro with SkyWatcher EvoGuide 50ED and ZWO ASI120MM Mini. ZWO LRGB filter.
If you would like to support me on my journey into photographing the stars and deep sky objects, you can donate using: www.buymeacoff...

When I get round to capturing comets I will come back to this video for reference. Thank you for showing everyone how to go about the process. Clear sky's to you.

Great processing video. Glad you managed to capture the comet. No such luck for me unfortunately. I did manage to see it briefly with binoculars, but the weather hasn't been good enough to do any serious imaging.

60 sec exposure for this comet is too long. It moves very fast. So, 10-15 sec will give features that will be blurred by 60 sec exposures. I am sure, you want to see gasses in comet. Overall exposure could not be more than 1.5h, comet will undergo large shift. I exposed 4h, it left frame! Stars have to be removed. Otherwise, clipping during processing inevitable. Here comes interesting part. Stars should be removed from about 300 15-sec frames. If frames 11MPix, it will take a lot of time (>48h). What to do? This is great astronomical quiz!

We will never be fully happy :) Sharper nucleus or tail, that is the question. I appreciate the feedback, thank you.

@@frosthastrophotography We always want good resolution in astrophotography. As of now, this comet moves at speed 18-20” per minute. I took yesterday its photos. You could see movement after every 15 sec frame. I took pictures on 22 January, 3 February and will do 10 days later to see dynamic in comet tail. Processing is tricky. Have you tried to take pictures of other dimmer comets? For example, 2020C v2 (ztf).

@@frosthastrophotography I tried c2020 v2. Worked well. Here exposures could be 30-60 sec. I don’t know how to make videos, but it could be great to do them from separate frames of comet pictures. Movement through star field will be obvious. You are very good in making videos. Do you want my frames to do videos? On 2 March, I will “celebrate” 6 months in the hobby 😀.

Hi friend, thanks for your share! I've a big big problem, when i combine lrgb star image i return a coloured image (big red and blue and green stars!). i haven't star x terminator so i make the star mask with starnet ++. Please could you help me? Thank you so much

@frosthastrophotography Год назад
Hi! Thank you so much! If I understand this correctly, you get reg, green and blue colors around your stars in blobs? That sounds like you are combining images that are not registered to eachother (StarAlignment).
