Sonic unleashed is the greatest example of this. The sonic unleashed opening cutscene is fucking amazing. Sonic destroying those robots and going super with the eye candy 3d cinematic animation looks fucking beautiful. I wish sonic games still had that. Same with stuff like sonic prime.

You know I’ve had this in my head for a while, but I think Peppino Spaghetti may be the most relatable character I’ve seen in a video game. He’s a grown man who’s always worried about something (especially money according to this opening), he frequently subjects himself to all kinds of unbearable malarkey just to get through to his goals, he clearly has a lot to lose if something were to happen to his only source of income (that being his pizzeria), and above it all he chooses to push on no matter what happens to him. Just like the average adult in modern society.

If you look at Pizza Face at 0:18, you can see that he almost looks confused. As if he wasn't expecting Peppino to react the way he did. Probably because the guys Pizza Face made a surprise vist to were other cartoon characters, meanwhile Peppino is just a normal guy.

One of the most beautiful intros in the videogame history. Good animation, epic soundtrack, and most important - it shows you ALL the synopsis and explaining, who are you, why are you go that tower and what you will do. And after that, all what you want - just play the game. Outstanding job!

I realize now what the whole premise of the entire game and its story is. Peppino had a major misunderstanding the whole time. He fabricated the idea that his new neighbor Pizzaface was going to destroy his pizzeria. All that happens at 0:20 is that Pizzaface is letting Peppino know he moved in next door. He's greeting his new neighbor. He just thought that pizzaface was malicious because of his own personal anxiety. He's super stressed out from basically going out of business due to debt, and the stress has made him anxious and borderline insane. Peppino is literally the villain the whole time. Even if pizzaface's food sucks, its no reason to invade the man's home/business and destroy it. Pepperman? He's just chilling making art in his gallery of the tower. The Vigilante? Trying to stop Peppino from murdering more people. He's even nice enough of a sport to give Peppino a gun for the duel. The Noise? Personal grudge match because Noise's pizza was more successful than Peppino's, as is evident with Noise literally having filming crews and a float about his business. "Fake Peppino"? This is a little less explainable. It's probably a figment of his imagination, or Pizzaface has some serious resident evil shit going on. Pizza Face (Giant Pizza)? Fighting back because this intruder has literally been running amok in his tower all day from sunrise to nightfall. Pizza Face Himself? Just thinking it was all some elaborate prank by his new neighbor, until he realizes this guy's here to actually kill him. At what point did you see the "Death Ray" that Peppino thought of in game, outside of the intro where he imagined it? Straight up, Peppino is the first ever playable platformer antagonist as a main character.
If Pizza Face never said anything, Peppino would never have known he was trying to destroy his restaurant until it was way too late. Instead he had to piss him off and ensure that Peppino was going to do whatever it takes to stop him. 😂
