Back in 1996, Reef released their hit single 'Place Your Hands'. This track features a chordal riff primarily played in the intro and choruses. RU-vid and Tablature would lead you to believe there's a correct way to play this however in this guitar lesson I'm going to uncover the real correct way of playing this!

nice spot on the D chord omitting the octave but the second chord Is actually a G triad (the same shape as you are playing but omit the E in the bass (think of it as a C shape but). was a killer riff and a huge tune at the time.

I had the official tab sheet music of this in the 90s and that just showed the bottom E string dropped to D, D chord played as a 3-note (standard A chord shape) and the G chord was an EM7 three note shape (sort of like a standard D5/Dsus2 shape with the extra note above) on the 7th fret.

We play this song live and it ALWAYS goes down a treat. A nice little second set song to get the crowd going

Genius! I was having the same issúe with this song, those notes sound spot on, tone needs to be a lot cleaner though, once I cleaned my guitar up it got much closer, thanks for the vid, big help!

nailed it. I played it wrong for ages until I accidentally played it properly. It was then I realised I'm not a shit player, I just played it wrong.

The difference between the two ways of playing it is really clear now. It just sounds much better with this chord and less dull sounding!

You've cracked it with the D7, but it sounds like he slides up from D7 to Em7 instead of hammering into Em7.

Close to a D7 chord but not quite. It's really just a regular D but it's missing the octave. Root, 5th, 3rd is the construction. When I play this live, I slide to the Em in the verses only. There's is a change from the main riff.
