A Walk From Streatham Hill Station,Down Streatham High Road,Down To The Common....Enjoy ! (c) 2016 An Unexplained Produktion (c) 2016 Places To Live In The UK
20 years ago for me. How Streatham has changed. I used to live in Tooting but married my girlfriend who lived in Streatham. Now I live in South Carolina...a world away....fond memories of Streatham though.
I lived there from the 1950s to early 70s. Nice to see Sainsbury's is still there. Lots of memories. (PS. You should have walked the other way with the sun behind you!)
what great memories that video brings back to me. as a visiting and working australian i lived in streatham hill and worked at segas in 1972/1973. i lived on kirkstall road and worked on barrhill road. my bus was of course the 159 and my stop was the old streatham garage, opposite telford avenue.
Thank you so much! I grew up as a kid in Streatham late '60's/early '70's, left England in the 80's. You bought back so many nice memories. Your videos's ROCK!!
Hi, i used to live in Streatham around 20 years ago, good memories for me, glad you made it as farbas the commen on your low Battery😅 perfect end to a lovely walk, Thanks, Kathy.
lived on Drewstead road Streatham Hill in the 70's & 80's. used to catch the train to Victoria from there or go to Balham & catch the tube. The high Rd has changed a bit but my old local the HORSE&GROOM is still going.Great video keep them coming. Am subscribed now so won't miss any from now on.
I was bought up in Gracefield Gdns near Odeon cinema, lived their happily till 10 years ago. Family got me to relocate. I miss my roots so much, it hurts. Thanks for video of the high road.
Thankyou so much for this - I'm imagining walking in my dad's shoes when he was a young boy. Passing the time during the lockdown I've been going through dad's papers, he lived down Angles rd (behind the Odeon). I found a photo of Angles rd VE day street party and my dad is on it. So very happy as its the only pic I've seen of him as a boy. He lost all contact with relatives when he settled here in Yorkshire. I like to think he was walking down the high street with me in spirit. I will have to visit in person when we all get back to normal. Wishing good health to all.
i lived in leigham hall, on the high road, from 1968 to 1978. before that in pimlico. every time i go back to london i visit my old home, my old battersea grammar, and other schools, streatham modern and sunnyhill which are no more, streatham has changed, i think, i left it just in time, much and now has a general appearance of decay and neglect and i get the feeling it is not very safe at night anymore, but that is common with most of london now. i now live and practice in sardinia. very nice climate but still an island. i get a bad feeling of nostalgia as i remember how it was. thank you for posting it. i'll do the same next time i go back to london, by roads included. cheers and thanks for posting.. could you do a walkaround of pimlico please, sussex street.
Just like I remember it. I used to work in a beautiful menswear shop called The Cedar Tree, just past Woolworths. I would be faint with amazement if it's still there.
Hey! Thanks a lot for this video! I celebrated my birthday last 10/14/2016 at "El Chico´s" min 2:26 and loved it! -couple of weeks before you uploaded this video, lol. I was living near Tooting Broadway Station, but have family living near Streatham Common, and loooove that place too! xx
lived there in the 60s, biggest Mod area in South London, top of Greyhound lane the Cafe and Pub....Scooters Galore, the Who, Kinks, Small Faces...the place to be if you had the ticket.....white label Prince Buster.....King Tubby...
I live in Streatham. I like it. It is mainly residential but it has a high road with lots of shops and amenities. It has a leisure centre with an ice rink and about 5 gyms along the main road, Streatham High Road, which is a long road and more like a street in many parts. Rent is not too high and it is not a poor area, not posh but not poor either. It is kinda middle class area. The common is nice and there are other commons near by also, such as Tooting Common. I've lived here for over 40 years.
My first time in London, I slept there. In a flat above "The Waterfront" pub. It was in January 2004. I think that zone was getting better through the years.
fond memories. i spent 5 years living at Norfolk House Rd, in a tiny bedsit. unsure what to do with the life. i thought it sucked at the time. now i'm married, with a kid on its way, and i feel nostalgic about those days : ) paradoxes of life huh
Thanks for this. I'm from the States...My 21 year old daughter lives in Streatham. I haven't been there yet --so nice to see where she is living till I can get there myself:)
I used to live on Prentis Road, Streatham.... in 2009, it was rough back then, now I live in Wandsworth, Wandsworth is nice. But I have too many memories of streatham....
Towards the end you passed what must be the filthiest, lawless area between Streatham station and traffic lights at the top of the hill. The pavements are strewn with garbage, there's fresh spit everywhere, and there are numerous people who have been trafficked to work in some of the north African businesses. The main brothel shut its doors recently - it was above the only police station in the area. The little green is where the drug dealers do their business undisturbed. I just wished someone would teach people that it's not okay to spit and drop their waste as they walk. around this area...
Hey, thanks for posting this, I'm considering moving here while I go job hunting in London. Would you please tell me if parks in Streatham are safe during the day? Are these parks safe to walk through even where there's not much people around? And... how hard would u say it is to get a job as a dog-walker or in a pub or a cafe around here? (EU citizen) Cheers!
Hi there...I would say it's best to visit the area a few times before you consider moving....I always visit a town I'm thinking of moving to,before I commit to living there....I hope this small bit of information was a little useful :) R
A RU-vid recently, did 'Streatham High Road The Worst High Road in Britain', which js total rubbish and an insult, the biggest problem the area has had is a massive influx of immigrants, not surprisingly the RU-vidr js Korean. Streatham js a super area, and is gradually rebuilding it's place as an upmarket area of South London.
During day light hours there usually some people around within visibility. If you don't stray too far from visibility of the roads in daylight, I would say it is reasonably safe. If you are a woman I would stay in visibility and near the roads and perhaps have a companion with you if you can. I would not trust any park in London in the dark. But in London, nowhere is really safe nowadays. The criminals can strike in broad daylight on main streets. They don't seem to care. But Streatham is not a high crime area compared to other areas, I would say. If you are a dog walker, don't carry unnecessary valuables with you, is my advice. PS I live in Streatham.
Nice video, would've been even more enjoyable if you spoke a little lol. About anything really; london life, the news, sports, it was just a bit silent. Just a suggestion for future videos. :)
