This is probably a good example for why Nostalgia doesn’t always make sense. The station appears to be in a lot better nick these days than it was back then. And sure, we can all appreciate the lovely old rolling stock as passionate fans, but the truth is, the new trains by Bombardier will probably offer more advantages to most daily costumers. In any case, thank you very much for the video and greetings from Madrid, Spain!
Hello, yes, nostalgia does often see things like stations brought up to a standard they did not meet in the past. Sometimes though the facilities are actually better than those of the present era! I see the nostalgia meme as also creating a present-era nostalgia for the future. For instance, museum railways where people travel in vintage trains - and sometimes the same station has platforms which are also served by present-era trains as part of an ordinary urban railway.
The 2 disused closed off platforms that is still present at Plaistow is where LTS trains used to stop at Plaistow before it was closed and the station is now only served by London Underground District Line and Hammersmith & City Line trains. With Upminster, Barking and West Ham stations being served not just by London Underground and Docklands Light Railway but also c2c and London Overground services. I have been to that station before when I was a young kid.
wow, yes... when editing the footage the image I see is very low quality and in a small window so I did not notice this. I recall why they were removed - abused in an extremely dangerous way
A very nice video showing the contrasts here Simon. In the future the signals shall disappear as well as the C and D stock as CBTC engulfs more of the SSR.
CoachAlex1996 (AlexMetroman) yea I’ve heard that they recently made the entire Circle Line operating using CBTC (which replaced the Edgware Road signal cabin uwu) as well as the Hammersmith & City line from Hammersmith to Liverpool Street and Metropolitan line from Finchley Road to Aldgate. Also technically Paddington (Praed Street) to Edgware Road on the District line.
8:45 LTS went straight from steam to electric in BR(E) days; there would have been very few diesel calls there. Steam under BR was nearly all tank engines hauling non-corridor stock on that line.
I have seen photos of diesel hauled trains on the LTS but this was a stop gap prior to electrification. Especially in later years there were hardly any Fenchurch St service that stopped here, except one afternoon / evening rush hour when a power supply issue caused the LT trains to be withdrawn and BR trains made extra stops at as many stations as possible.
Great footage mate! Though I have one curious question about the crossover...why is it one of the noisiest crossovers here when trains pass through it? XD
well of course in the steam train era the Metropolitan and District were very similar to the many other British railway companies. Even after electrification the Met's trains were more like those on other main line railways (eg: the T stock). There there were the Pullman Cars on the Metropolitan and the Ealing - Southend On Sea through trains (called the Southend Corridor Express) which ran over part of the District line and changed between steam and electric locomotives at East Ham or Barking
Yea that area is known to be notorious. Even several youtubers who confused living there before ranted on that. The catcallings at Upton Park I heard are quite severe there
I only have modern footage for Barkingside but it is a really nice station. For Ilford I have a little footage in my Class 306 film, I think I have more still images than video with Class 315 trains. After the Class 345 trains have been extended to 9 cars and the main station building has been rebuilt I will look to use my Ilford footage. I am very unhappy about the platform 2 / 3 stairway changes here. What has been done disadvantages passengers very considerably.
citytransportinfo I know, but it will be great to see a contrast for ilford or barkingside even though there is only still images. Did the 1967 stock go to barkingside
@@CitytransportInfoplus WP1=Westbound Platform 1 EP2=Eastbound Platform 2 EP3=Eastbound Platform 3 Inwas wondering why does platform 3 3zist at the time i didn’t jnow H&Cs terminate at Plaistow sometimes
Oo la..I can see Québécois' foolishly tinting subway windows becoming customary, but not duhhh English (that there good-riddance D stock parade).. .. . .
The Hammersmith & City Railway built the branch line between Westbourne Park and Hammersmith. It was jointly owned by the Great Western and Metropolitan Railways.
