31 years later and this video still blows me away. The Plan B Questionable video was arguably the biggest leap in timeline of skateboarding history. Amazing soundtrack as well.
Hokus Pokus is the only other video I can think of that's even close to this level of changing the game. Oddly enough Danny Way headlined that one as well.
@OneofMyTurns The opening montage for Virtual Reality has to be one of the best ever. I ran a skateshop from 93 until 2000, and I remember when that video came in. It absolutely blew us away. Man, it is too bad that videos are not like they used to be. They were so special back then. The good old days.
If you didn't skate during this time, you can't possibly understand!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Big Pants, Small Wheels... like 39mm.... sheeeeeit was nuts! This is the 1st video where switch tricks were being taken to remotely to this level. These young kids have no idea how important this video was. INSANITY
its 22 years now.came out mid 1992.then straight out a year later virtual reality came out.a very rare thing nowadays 2 groundbreaking videos back to back in that time for sure.glad i grew up in the bulk of the 90,s when i rewatch these.plan b was amazing till mike ternasky died.from 1998 the company shut till 2005.i have mixed feelings about how the company is now.
Kids need to remember how raw this was. A lot of these tricks and trick combinations and doing things switch was still being invented, tried, tried down a set of stairs, and figured out the same month it was filmed. Sometimes the same week, put like this, street skating had been born already, but this was the toddler skater getting up and taking its first steps, and most was caught on camera.
I was 12 when I first saw this video. My 12 year old self was blown away seeing what was being done on a skateboard . 31years latter and I'm still blown away with talent in this video. This video pushed skating so far and I feel so lucky to of skated in this era of skateboarding. Thanks for posting this video it brings back many memories of me growing up and skating with great friends many of which are unfortunately no longer with us.
Skateboarding may not have been very popular, during this time, but, for me, it was the Golden Age of skateboarding. This was one of the best videos of that era.
+Flick Of Dah Wrist 23:18-27:45 he was the BEST when all pros were really good at this time. most vert &freestylers faded away when street took over,Rodney adapted ,innovated, and dominated when he went to street.plus he carried a lot of freestyle tricks over and invented new ones.
This is like the beginning of the "tech" era, about to take over. Huge baggy pants, tiny wheels, pressure flips, under flips, darkslides, late flips, your nose or tail touches the curb doesn't count etc. And then you've got little kid Colin McKay and Danny Way (DC Shoes) Rodney Mullen pulling off crazy lines, Rick Howard styling it up. And the music. Man, this is super nostalgic! I'm an old man that experienced some awesome skateboarding. The community of it back then.....taking a break from an 8 hour day of skating and mischief to sit in a basement with everyone and idolize these VHS tapes.
THE LEGENDS OF STREET AND RAMP SKATING!!! People don't cruise around town anymore anymore ripping the scene at every parking lot or business that demonstrate their craziness of how far they'll go with a certain trick to demonstrate or show amazing abilities. Plus, people fear getting hurt now when before it was a badge of honor and a good story. The good old days of no safety, all muscle with no fear. That's why these guys are untouchable in skill level. I remember doing the same tricks off of school building roofs over gaps, very scary tricks. But, riders don't adapt or go wild anymore like these guys on the video or the old school riders that are now in their late 40's to 50's in age. Time sure flies and I miss those days of riding. Thanks for this video.
This video and the era was probably the most innovative of all time. So many tricks done hadn’t even been thought of before and it blew your brain to see someone do something that literally seemed impossible before that. But once it was done then the gate was open and the rest of us normal skaters could actually try to do these tricks. It’s such a contrast to today’s skating….where the level is so insanely high and technically almost impossible. Skateboarding is such an amazing thing and to see it come so far and continue to impress me is such a wonderful thing. And the dudes in this video have stood the test of time and will forever be seen as legends❤
This video was a game changer, the team led by mike t was the first of the next generation super teams of that era,i am glad to be skating in that time and still at 48
30 years plus and I’m looking up what was that Ned’s Atomic Dustbin song, what was that Del tha Funkee Homosapien song, Primus song…thank you Rick, Mike and Pat. No thank you Rodney! Buzzkill!! Did not stand test of time, imagine if Rodney had the Ned’s Atomic Dustbin song. So much cooler it would have been. Step it up, Great One! Kidding of course!
I've never been more impressed from a skate video than this one, saw it when it first came out and was absolutely mesmerized by the level of skating. This video took skating to a whole new level.
This is one of best videos I have ever watched and it brings me back to my childhood being shocked by how good these guys were at the time especially Rodney Mullen and great music too !
this was one of my favorite videos when i was a youngster.....tried to up the ante after watching it....now it reminds me of how much better skating is than baseball.
Everyone’s over dubbed copy was probably grainier than this RU-vid upload.... although we didn’t know any better!!!! Damn HD gotta us spoiled today 🤦🏻♂️. Fu-Schnickens track is still 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Around the spring of 1992, all the skateboarders from Las Vegas used to come up to the LipTrix skate park in St. George, UT. On any given night you could find Ryan Fabry, Mike Chu, Paul Smith, Kenny Anderson, Joe Nemeth, to name a few. We would skate for hours and then go out in the desert and party. It's kind of a trip when some pro skater asks you to buy them a beer. We would go back to Vegas and skate all the sick spots there too. Good times.
Looking back on this as an old man who grew up on this vid, everyone in this was exceptional for the time. I have to say Rodney's part still holds up as far as what he threw down though. I really wish Rodeny in his prime could've been captured with modern cameras and frame rates. Dude throws an inward shove it late double heel off the loading dock, impossible late flip in the puddle reflection shot, and a double flip late shove it. I hate to sound like that guy that talks about how this guy from back in the day threw it down like nobody else, but Rodney really did.
Picture a time before the internet, when you have to WAIT for the next big thing to hit. Imagine reading in RAD magazine that this video was about to drop and it was insane. Try to guess the anticipation of ringing around skate shops every week asking it was out and then finally reserving it, taking a train trip and getting the gang together in your front room.BANG! PAT FUCKING DUFFY BLOWS YOUR MIND!Shit was better before instant gratification.
I remember seeing this for the first time and being so sad that Matt Hensley was calling it quits! and now after all these year's hearing the interviews with him, I understand why he did it and respect it. He will always be one of the top 5 in my book
Man I must have seen this on a million times. Dude gave me a blank VHS with like 5 full skate videos. I was so stoked. It had Virtual Reality and a Foundation and a Color...which was I believe Jeremy Wray old shit, sick shit. Watching again for 1st time in like 20 years is crazy!
Thanks so fokin much for putting this vid up. I grew up watching this. I've never, ever, everrr... stopped wearing big pants! Started skating again at 40yrs.
Ohh Man! Probably my favorite video from my early days for sure! The soundtrack is perfectly put too the skating! Its pretty insane that skating then we were so harrassed by people and the police constantly!Doing something extremely physical and downright INSANE at moments but we never sat still! Most skaters now couldn't understand the descrimination we endured then, now there's a skatepark just about everywhere! We made our parks outta parking lots and schoolyards and anything else with a good angle to grind or slide!Best of times for sure! Thanks for the share!Sk8 or Die 🤟
Rodney Mullen's part is incredible in every way possible,. Every single trick is so perfect that no other skater could do that. In 2021 this video is still watches daily due to how amazing this video is
In his book he says that almost noone cheered watching his part in theater at premiere. Only the last trick made huge impression on people. His persona and style was considered nerdy between street skaters at the time
@@lukaszenko10000hey were jealous and mad bc this 'old school' flat ground guy is killing it, and making it seem easy and simple .... Edit ... And he definitely not normal... In a talented genius way
I think I was 17 turning 18 skating nonstop when this came out, fucking amazing even the DCD Saltarello at the end. Amazing stuff! This and Hokus Pokus!
Dude... These dudes were doing Amazing tricks man even by todays standards. True pioneers of skateboarding man. Freaking Amazing. Thanks for the Video.
NOBODY! The guy is like watching poetry in motion. The best flatland/street skater that this world has ever seen. An absolute living legend. Most likely, the biggest innovator in skateboarding. I wonder if kids will even know who he is in 25 yrs?!? Such a humble guy too. I recently watched an interview with Tony Hawk interviewing him and Tony called him the best skater ever and Rodney looked soo grateful;it looked like he was gonna cry.
The guy pioneered some aspects of skateboarding and he's a lovely chap, but he's never skated transition and he spent half his career fiddling around almost at a standstill. He only started actually moving above walking speed or skating obstacles of any kind because of Mike Ternasky.
'Still great crazy after all these years!' 30 years back, I remembered the slowed down parts but don't think realized the sped up parts. It is nice to be able to slow down the Rodney parts to appreciate what was going on. Duffy...Danny... They are all so gnar
Love this video! Brings back so many good memories. I skated from 1990 to probably early 2000's, serious skateboarding, and I've watched this video countless times before thrashing. Still such a cool vid. A lot of good parts on this, gotta love the music to!
Back then it was excitable to pressure flip and have your board bounce of the ground before landing the trick I loved the way it looked bouncing the board off the ground and I also love pressure flips Rodney just learned street a couple months before the video and he is still fucking incredible
2018! Thank you very much for uploading this video! I was looking for this video for years! With this video, I learned to skate in 1997. Thanks again. Skateboarding for life! Skateboarding will never die!
great post, thx. wow i did not realize how many of todays technical flip tricks they did that early like what 1991. and holy pressure flip every 5 tricks LOL
Good nigth Plan b very scrim this video off the one I see and if are Good time for my memorys, shoulds 1° vhs or dvd, Congretulations long show of Skateboarding I love your forever up die. 😆👏👏👏👏👏👏💯❤
I don't give a fuck. Everyone who fell, scrapped the shit out of themselves, had to adjust to these strange, ( and surprisingly very functional and brilliantly designed) awesome shapes, wore the pants 4 inches too big, pushed mongo so everyone knew u were skating switch, got kicked out of everywhere, got tickets and citations for skating.....We were the shit... There's a secret to youth, vitality, mobility, endurance, and a healthy disregard for authority. And if you get it...... cool, keep on pushing.✌️🤙👍
