Boy the compression effect of your telephoto threw me off in the beginning .. I was like ‘I’ve lived next to SNA my whole life and this ain’t it’, then the terminal building popped into view and yep that’s it. Very cool how the lens brings in our local hills so close, obviously a very clear day for us 👍
@@iToni_YT 450mm really does wonders in these scenarios, I’ve been a photographer for almost 50 years .. everything from large format film to full frame digital .. but believe it or not I’ve never used telephotos .. well unless you count my astrophotography telescopes as large telephotos 😬 So where we’re you plane spotting at KSNA? I’ve gotten back into my flight sim hobby and was thinking of going over to KSNA with my tablet and Flightradar24 and LiveATC apps just to watch (maybe a couple iPhone pics too) Can you get a pretty good view from the Air Museum there?
@@chrisstrobel3439 thanks once again for sharing this with us and you can try another spot by going into the parking lot at the rear towards the fence at the Elev8 Performance complex and have a good time spotting 😊✈️
Great footage! I’ve been trying to find a good spot there? I tried Main St. but could only see arrivals. Then I tried the bridge by Newport back bay but it was too far away. Were you on Red Hill?
This is my airport, as I live 12 miles away and fly out/in maybe 100X a year BUT, I gotta say for "plane spotting", this ain't the place, folks! Nothing larger than a 757 and that's only 2-4 times a day. Other than that? That's it! 737 after 320 after 737.....great stress free airport but for unusual aircraft....Naw!!
Congratulations. It's almost impossible to find a decent spot to watch planes down there at SNA. Kind of sad. Back in the old days, they actually had a restaurant in the old terminal that had an outside observation deck on it where you could watch planes.
"a restaurant in the old terminal that had an outside observation deck" The only problem with that would be if somebody -- not sayin' anyone I know -- might have gotten a bit too enthusiastic about finishing up at the restaurant's counter and heading out to the deck with their Super 8 movie camera. So enthusiastic that they forgot to pay the bill (a dollar-something for food and a drink), which had the jilted waitress coming out of the restaurant and all the way around the building to the deck on the runway side, demanding her money in the presence of random witnesses. That must have been embarrassing for this hypothetical teenager I don't know... even if they did get film of a yellow Dyke Delta coming in for landing.
Around 1980 I remember walking out to the Aircal 737 I was flying on and having to climb stairs to get on the plane. In the early 70's I remember doing the same thing at Long Beach to get on the PSA 727 I was flying on.
@@bruce2357 Yeah, I remember walking down the stairs, onto the ramp to exit the planes there...and then walking over to the outside baggage claim area to get the bags.
