great variety! when were those videos made? it must been filmed over several years because you can see a lufthansa A380 and a MD-11 from Varig and Varig ceased operations in 2007.

Is it Zurich airport that is increasingly using tow tractors to pull aircraft, including the heavies, out to their takeoff positions; also from runway to parking after landing? A fuel-saving and noise-reducing exercise, seems like a good idea to me.
Pushback trucks are only allowed on taxyways and for the minimum time necessary to get the plane on the taxi lane and disconnecting the towbar. Also the truck transmission would suffer a lot to drag a a380 full of fuel and payload to the runway. In some airports taxiing can take as long as 30 minutes plus the pushback trucks are so slow, so we would have to add 10 or 20 minutes more to arrive to the runway.
