Good vintage airline footage and, because AT&T sponsored it, a lot of telephones.
Producer: Fairbanks (Jerry) Productions
Sponsor: American Telephone and Telegraph Co. (AT&T)
Shows the varied forms of communications used by commercial air carriers in confirming reservations, preparing aircraft for flight, monitoring aircraft in flight and maintaining air-to-ground contact.

I remember going to the airport a couple times as a little kid. These machines were a little scary but incredibly fascinating to me. I remember airports sounding a lot 'whinier' when i was a kid, and now I know why. Pratt and Whitney.

Despite some of the cynical comments here, this was an intentional and very cool-retro look at flying back then. Sure, times have really changed. In many other industries other than just the airlines. Nice to see so many of the early airline liveries on the jets in the early /mid 60's. Almost all liveries had changed later in the decade. Thanks for posting.

Oh my, the halcyon days of yore. One thing that stood out right away is how travelers' attire has slob'd out somewhat over the last 40+ years. I remember as a small kid in the late 60s, early 70s that folk used to be well-dressed for air travel (or any travel for that matter). I love today's technology, but would prefer yesterday's culture and mannerisms.

You guys will probably laugh, but the one thing that stood out to me in this (excellent) video was the fact that the family had a push button phone. At home! That truly was cutting edge stuff in those days. And notice how gingerly the wife presses the buttons, like she had never done it before - she probably hadn't! The airplane/airport stuff doesn't impress me as much, planes were very advanced for their time because of their military development.

Goodness, how I remember those days! Yes, I'm that old, but those days of much simpler times (in comparison to today) seemed so much more pleasant....people WERE nicer...people WERE better mannered and well dressed. Social civilities were the norm. I know....I was a chief steward and flew for 37 years during this era. The '50's and '60's were certainly the golden age for travel and I do miss it.

You got that right. In Florida, the standard outfit for guys at a departure gate is a T shirt, baggy shorts and of course the ever-present flip flops on the feet. Usually accompanied by a backpack, ear buds and let's not forget the trendy water bottle. For the traveling women, pretty much the same but add a purse and 10 items of Volkswagen-sized luggage they swear will all fit in the overhead bins; yeah, at the expense of everyone else's space. New Agers="I'ts all about meeeeeee!"

You’re romanticizing the past, which people have been doing for thousands of years. Each generation complains about the present and longs for the “good ol’ days”. Even philosophers that lived millennia ago criticized the present, while glorifying the past. It isn’t true - it never has been and never will. It’s similar to how older generations always criticize the youth of the day. You can find the same arguments people use today against millennials in newspaper articles and various literature 100 years ago. I read a published article in a New York paper from the 1920’s and the author wrote that the youth of the day is lazy, cared more about sinful pursuits and wondered how civilization could continue with such a horrible generation. Sound familiar? By virtually all important measures, the world is a much better place today. Decreased infant mortality, advanced healthcare, much longer lifespans, far superior human rights and widespread democracy, the eradication of many diseases, decreases in poverty and hunger etc.. Did you know that crime rates haven’t been this low since the 60’s? These facts can be found on various law enforcement sites, but it’s clear you’ve chosen to buy into the negativity and fear mongering of the media. The list of positive things virtually goes on and on. In fact, the 21st century is the most peaceful century in recorded human history. You’re only devaluing your own existence by claiming the past was better.

When planes were being made by a company who had the word "bus" in their name, it was all over. Have you ridden in a bus ? They're filthy, and the guy sitting next to you smells. Wow, that's just like flying today ! I was 7 years old in 1972, and I remember getting on a brand new Delta 747 from DFW to LAX - and yes, I was dressed up in my Sears Sunday Best !

Amazing how little ATC has changed in 46 years! When piloting a plane you still have to talk over VHF radio to get your clearance, talk to the tower, approach and center controllers, and follow the exact same procedures shown in this movie. It's as if the Internet and wireless data communications were never invented.
