@@duszhduszh basically he opened the game without some mods and made 3-4 episodes, including this one and now to continue this he has to load the previous saves where everything is okay but he'll have to do a lot of work... He made a poll wether he shoud continue this by fixing this or make a new city and majority voted for new coty
I think a bigger issue (and bearing in mind that I've only watched up to about that time marker anyway) is that the first ramp for the big turbine interchange is too close to where the sliproad from the roundabout for anyone to change lanes to hit the turbine otherwise. That is, any driver that wants the first turbine entrance needs to come through the roundabout to get there. Can't change lanes in.
You made me believe that Biffa had a death in the family. For anyone reading the comments asking "Oh no, what happened?" Don't worry, I've done the research on your behalf. His city called Teaport (this city) had some issues that deleted a lot of his progress. He's considering making a new city. That's it.
Thank you Teaport and Biffa for the distraction during the various lockdowns. I really appreciate you broadcasting your enthusiasm in this wonderfull city.
A big ATC tower in the middle would be a great idea. I mean, 6 runways, helicopters, aviation club beg for a control centre. The one that you used in the disaster dlc series would look amazing.
Biffa, the reason there's so many coming off to go around the roundabout and back on again, is because there is no node between those two intersections, so in order to get on the highway they're having to go off at the previous intersection. You set it so there was only one lane for a right turn, with no node in between to pick a lane, so they are stuck. It's been like that since you built it, but you said "it should be fine because there's hardly any traffic, but I might have to fix it later" and you never went back to fix it.
Biffa, do you have a node between the 'roundabout' intersection and the intersection connected to the highway? So that the ones which are going underneath the roundabout have a chance to go right. Maybe that is the problem why they go off and on again to go right.
Awh, saw your post and your troubles. So it doens't matter anymore I suppose. But can't wait for the new city! Been following you for over a year now and still excited for every new video. Also the collab is cool!
Just want to say - I've had Cities Skylines for a couple of years now, but every time I've tried to get into it I just got overwhelmed by the sheer depth of the game! I have started from the beginning of this series and am following along doing my best to recreate Teaport with you, and my god I am addicted! Last two nights I've looked up wondering why I'm tired only to find out its 3am!! I'm hoping with your next series you carry on entertaining and educating. I'm learning so much. What would be good is a decent overview of anything you do off camera, even an aerial view so we can pause it, with a few notes about any settings etc. I know you have to find the balance between entertainment and tutorial and I don't expect you to plod along. But I am really looking forward to the next series - But I'm going to try and follow Teaport for as long as I can! I'm only up to episode 5 (after restarting due to me downloading way too many assets and mods!) watching this I can't believe how much my little town is going to change! (I don't even like tea - but I was craving a cuppa by the end of last nights sessions every time you took a sip o' tea! ;) Thanks Biffa - Loving it. :) EDIT: Just want to add - airports generally do have all their runways running in the same (or two) directions. They're built in the same direction as the prevailing wind directions so planes can take off and land with the wind. (but they might not look as aesthetically pleasing as Teaport!) :)
I don't play this game at all, but when the pandemic was at its peak and I've stumbled across the beginning of Teaport, I've watched every single throughout this build and I have to say what a great journey it has been watching this city grow. Sad to hear what happened, but Biffa, thank you for allowing everyone to be entertained throughout this whole city building process. Teaport and it's citeazens will be dearly missed. Excellent job Biffa, well done
You should definitely connect all the airports with multiple taxiways so that planes can get to everywhere in the hub. Adding multiple hangers and aprons with parked planes on them can also add a lot of realism and life in the detailing. One other idea could be to create some viewing platform/park nearby for enthusiasts and photographers to go and do plane spotting.
Things you need to do to that airport : 1. Make a metro line from the metropolitan airport to the city 2. Fill the gap between the metropolitan airport and the international airport with comercial zone 3. Place residentsial arround the airport and the docks / marina
Remember the one tile city challenge where the pilots needed to navigate super tall buildings to land and take off? We need that here! I actually feel like you should get a taxiway asset and conect up the different airport buildings with them, just for visuals, and also give it an easier access to a highway like almost all major airports in the world, and a massive car park.
Wasn't that the one tile city? Would love to see a new one done but as it's already been done then I don't think it would be done again, unless it was like a tutorial city
3:53 "wondering whether I'm forcing people to do that" ... well, where the off-ramp is joining the roundabout you have lane-connectors and I think the 'pale orange' one is encouraging people to go back to the highway (or encouring people you want to stay on the highway to take the off-ramp in the first place). If you send 'pale orange' people to the inner lane of the roundabout (third lane counted from the outside) you tell them to leave at the third exit - because most vehicles have a strategy to change one lane towards the outside at the exit not taken as you can see in your traffic routes at 3:33 and 4:44 ... And another point at 3:20 ... your roundabout highway connection (RHC) and your turbine interchange (TI) are much too close. I remember you saying the months ago when you built this and the area was everything but busy. Vehicles from the bridge probably think it is to difficult to take the highway under the roundabout and then change lanes to take the interchange and prefer the detour through the roundabout to get into the right lane. Maybe you need to interlock the ramps of those junctions and separate entering-then-straight-through traffic and straight-through-then-leaving traffic with a fly-over.
Sad Teaport is going, was going to say you really need to do something about your helicopter jam as I live next to a large regional hospital which has a lot of helicopter activity, those things are not quiet lol. If you are doing a Teaport destruction video, has to be a new mod of Biffa pouring a pot of tea over the city!
Thank you Teaport and most of all Biffa for sharing your journey with us all! As sad as it is to see the end of Teaport, maybe the new city could be named New Teaport or Teachester?
Teaport is what made me want to try playing again and attempt to build a realistic city by taking notes of what you did with your city. It's a shame to see it go but I cannot wait to see the next major build you do. :)
3:55 You are probably forcing people to use the roundabout because of the lane mathematics between the roundabout and the highway junction. There are no nodes and they can't switch lanes.
I feel Teaport is over its peek anyway with these huge airports, but sad to see it go. Too bad we didnt get to see building upriver in that mountainarea. But stoked for the new city... Tallahatea? In any case: THANK YOU Biffa and Teaport!
Love the realism in the first part: 1.: "Traffic is really bad here so we need an airport!" 2.:"Traffic is only bad because i made a mistake" 3.:"Well, i'll build an airport anyway!" That is some very realistic city-planner kind-of-thinking ;) Seriously though: I think a few pedestrian-plus-bike bridges across the river would really help connect the new area to the area inside the river-bend peninsula. Likking your videos :)
Teaport has been so much fun to watch grow and change, and it always sucks when work has to be lost because of a mistake. Whatever you decide to do, I will continue to watch, enjoy and love all of your Cities Skylines videos, they are the highlights of my week! For those who don't know/haven't seen: Please see Biffa's community page for the news about Teaport's destruction and the Biffa's poll about what to do next. Thank you for all your hard work, and your entertaining videos Biffa, I look forwards to seeing what's to come in the future, with or without Teaport.
Restaurants, hotels, and perhaps a casino or any other "luxury places" near the aviation club and in between the airports would be cool! Perhaps some walking areas/parks along a big fence so you can watch the airplanes, and terminal parking spots you can shuttle between with bus links? Oh! And maybe a post office?
a huge car park. Some low-rise offices. High-rise hotels outside flight paths. Maybe a military base? Or maybe a race-track around and through the airport area! 😄
All the aviation enthusiasts are going to love conducting manoeuvres in close proximity to jumbo jets landing at and taking off from the International Airport 😂😂
You should add services just for that transport hub. That would be a perfect place for all of the big hospital, police station, fire tower and emergency helicopters. Hotels and touristy shops would fit right in too. I kind of like the idea of a prison in the same general area would be cool. Call it Caffeine Corrections Facility.
5:26 This is just one of the first steps in the evolution of your channel; the biffinating of your content into an even more enjoyable experience. Who doesn't love a bit of self realization comedy? No one, that's who(m). cheers Growbiffanator.
I can't watch any of your videos until I have a full cup of tea in front of me. I have even paused a video, to go to the shop for milk or tea bags in the past. The habits us humans get into, so fresh cuppa on my desk, let's hit play and enjoy!
For detailing I would suggest: Fuel depot, extra plane stands, office buildings, hotels, some prop planes, hangers, approaching lights, maybe a bigger tower as a landmark, big car parks and parking garages. Maybe even connect the different airports with taxiways. There are some really cool airport prop collections on the workshop, that should give you everything you need. Name suggest: Tea-leave-Airport
Wow.. just two days ago, I started something similar. The differences are ppl have to get down from external trains at mono-rail hub, catch a monorail to MPE station which is my internal railway n/w which takes them all over the map and my monorail just loops b/w IA, MPA , MPE Station, Transport Tower, MR-Rail hub and Harbor. Amazing Work Biffa!
Looks great! The businesses and details around the airport should include a massive parking lot as well as hotels, shops, and open spaces like walking paths with parks and such ... love the videos!!!
I love watching all your videos, and I am trying to build cities with despawning turned off, which is super hard but fun! I was wondering if you would ever consider making a playlist on your youtube channel with short "how to videos" that just had a few minutes cut from a previously made content like, "how to set up a round about", "lane mathematics", "building intersections to have dedicated turning lanes", and videos that you've done on specific mods(loved the lastest video on traffic brokering!) could go in the playlist too (if anyone here knows other players that have created this type of content let me know) . Also alot of the time you have keyboard shortcuts set up and I find it challenging to go into a mods settings to figure out how to change things. I know this would be a huge undertaking but I'm hoping other people here will agree having a quick list of tips and tricks videos would be really helpful and personally would be much easier then scrolling through your longer city building or traffic fixing videos to find specific points.
Hey Biffa, in case you don't have this installed already and have any fps issues, try getting FPS Booster + Patch Loader Mod (instead of mini fps booster). I was getting around 20 fps when zoomed in and around 35-40 when zoomed out and now I'm getting around 35 fps when zoomed in and a constant 60 when zoomed out, all settings maxed out and with everything especially smoother when zoomed out. I noticed that it does take an extra minute to load the save up but otherwise, the performance increase is huge.
You're right, a car park between your two airports. And pedestrian walks. And buses to go from one to the others and back. And fences all around the area. And hotels near by. And storages building, there always some near the airports. And police station, and fire station. And why not the Concorde near the entry to make a thing to watch (like in Roissy Charles de Gaulle, near Paris). And a mall. And....... restrooms !! 😌 That's all. Thank you. This was a great video.
you could make a connection between the taxiways and runways with little additional taxiways, especially over the train line to the aviation club. And more concrete for a big combined apron with detailing, like parked planes, stairs, airplane containers, etc etc
Airports are designed so that runways are parallel (as much as possible) to allow for multiple landings and takeoffs. If realism is what you’re after, change it. If not, this is a sick build!
I think, you're forcing the traffic coming from the roundabout towards the intersection right into the lanes that will change their direction while the traffic going underneath the roundabout has to go straight.
Yep I agree, I bet there's no node between the roundabout and the next junction, so anyone wanting to exit at the junction has to go via the roundabout to be in the right-hand lane.
Let's have 2 huge airports, a train line and a monorail connected to a single 2-lane road with a railroad crossing... yes, jolly good idea there chaps! I think traffic might get a bit tricky after a while XD Maybe connect the road coming out on the other side to a highway? And possibly to the third airport as well? Though that last bit might lead people to use that road over the one you have going through the railroad crossing....
Biffa, the cars are choosing to use the roundabout and not the highway because if they want to get on the next highway junction you are not allowing them to change lanes so they use the roundabout so they are in the right lane to pick the highway then.
Yeah that transport hub definitely needs some hotels and a huge, massive car park nearby. Probably some storage facilities and some post offices nearby would also make sense.
Fairly certain this episode inspired the airport dlc. Would love to see this episode with the latest dlc. Honestly came back here bc teaport was my first love and wish we had a better send off. But love you biffa regardless
Hello Biffa, been liking the airport, in my opinion, making it a one way loop around the international and metropolitian airport would be nice(the smaller airport at the side could make another one way loop connecting to the main loop too) and connect it to the nearest highway. Here's my lil' suggestion and have a nice day
RIP Teaport. Would love to have the mod Biffa was asking for, network statistics, takes the routes lines and parses them into numbers. Maybe add a few more figures too, like posted speed vs ave travel speed, look at intersection nodes and have it tell you about turning, crossing, stop times, etc
3:20 might actually be a weaving issue, maybe try combining the two interchanges? 10:20 Maybe join the taxiways/runways up? Just for visual effect. 20:50 Replace the canal with a pond, the built-in ferry routes are interfering.
I like your airport area but I think you're going to need to re-think your airport road system. Traffic around airports is heavy! (even with rails, monorails, and ferries) For additions, I would add some parking garages, some airport hotels, and an Expo Center. The land around airports is incredibly valuable these days for business-centric activities like this, so people can fly into town, have their meetings, stay overnight, and fly back home without having to drive all the way into town. In-and-out.
3:32 people entering the roundabout and then going back to the highway - this is caused by the lane connectors here (visible at 3:54). Just make the left lane go into the inner roundabout lane (instead of the middle one) should help here. 19:05 I think the ferry stop needs to be still a bit further back for the ferry to stop correctly without turning around three times. (Though the other side of the street should be touching the train station here, for people to be able to actually go over.)
