I totally vibe with Silv's thoughts on management. PlanCo 1 has a lot of minutia but it doesn't feel all that meaningful. Not much of it really feels like either a problem or a solution to a problem. Parkitecht's backstage mechanic is interesting and fun because it's a multifaceted issue with multiple answers that the player also contributes to. You can reroute backstage pathways, build scenery, build more depots and underground lines, and all of these have different costs. It's not just "your guests need more X so build more X," nor is it "you can add these if you want but it won't hurt you either way." The pickles thing rings so true. All this is to say I hope heat is like this. If heat can be addressed by shade, drinks, water rides, shops, or fans/misters, then it would be a great step toward adding an open-ended problem. Part of what makes city builders so compelling is they have a TON of these types of problems - traffic, pollution, utilities, waste, happiness, education, health, emergencies - I feel like comparatively, park sims don't have quite as much currently.

I feel like some of the “fixes” that the community wanted with PC1 were just technically not possible with that version of the game engine. I would imagine that no amount of patching or updating could fix that. So since they were starting from the ground up on a new version of the engine, why not make a new game? I’m here for it either way!

This!!!!! A new modern codebase will be able to deliver so much stuff that just couldn't be done in the original game. It's like people forget that planet coaster is 8 years old and frontier has released like 5 games since. Something like building on flat rides alone probably required a complete code overhaul just to implement

I always hoped that the pathing / fencing in PC2 would be almost like an inverse system of enclosures in PZ. Where essentially the park was like a giant enclosure for guests to wander wherever they could and it would be your job to set up fencing to keep them out of certain areas. Like you could just have paths and one of the ways guests could vandalize would be to walk through small bushes or flowers because they're not very fenced off. And you would have to set up don't die fencing around parts of rides to keep guests out. The paths would basically just be aesthetic at that point, or like a suggestion for guests at best. But actually the guests would just wander anywhere where they could get into. Colorable paths would be siiiiiiick too.

Remember that lack of evidence is not evidence of lack. If other PC1 rides and capabilities weren't mentioned, it doesn't necessarily mean they won't be included; it could be that Frontier is just showing off the shiny new bits. Because that's what builds hype, not "Don't worry, the Grande Carousel is right where it's always been!" And this might not be all the shiny new stuff, who knows? ((well, I mean, sounds like Silv might but he knows better than to spill any beans😉)

First of all, to the Dreamteam: It was a very fun and great video! It was very nice listening to it while building my Planco 1 park, and I heard some new smaller things that I didn’t know. I’m very much looking forward to new episodes of Planco 2 Information and the reunion of the Dreamteam for a potential Koali 2, haha. And secondly, my thoughts on Planco 2: If I’m really, really honest, I’m a bit afraid that Planco 2 is too focused on water parks. From everything I’ve seen (and heard) so far, I get the feeling we won’t be able to build parks like Disney, Efteling, EP, Phantasialand, but more like SeaWorld Orlando. For now, I’d even go as far as calling it Planet Waterpark. I haven’t seen or heard anything about ride improvements with separate loading and unloading stations, stations like Droomvlucht or Piranha where the train doesn’t stop in the stations (we did see this with the chairlift in Planco 1 though, so maybe this will be coming for certain rides), special track elements (“elevator” tracks, drop tracks, switch and transfer tracks, etc.), pre-shows, etc. I’m also very afraid that dark rides will still not be properly integrated, and I’m still haven’t seen some features that for me personally are very important: parades (this might come though because we can decorate coaster trains and some potential parade floats too), options to make real shows with ‘actors’ (animatronics), night time spectaculars with water, fire, and other effects that ain’t fireworks, projection mapping for both shows and rides, disabled guests, small children in strollers, not only spawners but also car parks, bus stations, train stations, etc., resort options with hotels, bungalows, etc., and some other small management things. I’m also really missing generic theme park themes like fairytale, western, sci-fi, steampunk, and pirates. Yes, I am really, really anticipating Planco 2, but I’m not as hyped as I normally am until I see some more ride stuff. For now, I’m really scared that it’s more of a water park mixed with coasters game, and that there will only be coasters and rides because it’s called “Planet Coaster 2,” and that it’s only called that because Planet Waterpark does not sound that great haha (yes this was sarcasm for the people who didn’t get that :). Nevertheless, I will get Planco 2 on launch day and, if possible, I will pre-order it, of course, because I’m very curious about the game and still really, really want to play it. And yes, I am very hyped for all the new features!

No dark rides? Great podcast! A lot of crazy informations. However, I am a bit disapointed by the discussion about dark rides. If there is something absolutely no game managed to do well before, it is dark rides creation. That is something I am absolutely wating for. Silv and Rudi said that no one cared, but I am not the only one right?

There's this function in PC1 wich let's you create dark areas by adding terrain above them. I never understood why it wasn't possible to let the player create the exact same effect through placing special roof tiles. The function is there, just the aesthetic of the building part has to change. Technically, it is absolutely possible. Not including it is a stupid decision and just lazy

Do you think it is possible for them to still change the game so that it is effectively dark in buildings? I think this is also kind of important if you want to make slides with lights in them. Also, playgrounds would be nice in Planet Coaster 2

What would seem fun to me is a Spa Day pack. A pack where we get even more things to do with the pools. I am thinking of saunas, a wild water course as you described yourself and possibly jacuzzis like in RCT3.

What I think is, we will get a seasonal pack. A pack in which there is scenery for certain seasons and with that also a free update in which you can change the weather.

What I wish they would do is make Planet coaster 2 and add Planet Zoo 2 inside of it and call it Planet Theme Park, or something similar. Could you all imagine combining Planet zoo, planet coaster 2 and the water expansions inside of one game and simply focusing on dlc for one game so all of the creative effort goes into one title. That would be amazing; but I get it. They can make more money with multiple titles. But I think planet coaster 2 should have zoo dlc and dinosaur dlc and also pirate dlc. Whose with me??

I don't think they want to give everything away yet so they are keeping things in packs for later. For example a pack where you can open a ski resort for example. I have a feeling Frontier want to make the ultimate theme park/water park/resort game.

Fired up Planet Coaster for the first time since 2019 today in celebration of the news. The only thing I'm disappointed in from what I've seen is the lack of variety in the starting themes. I can live with limited rides to start off with, but I'm going to miss Space, Western, Pirates, and Fantasy. Assuming those are going to be the eventual DLCs, but not having them at the start is frustrating. I just want a pirate water park! That said, it seems like they're really nailing down the basic features. Paths look better, lighting looks better, weather/heat being things we need to manage is a step in the right direction. Seems like a good foundation to build on.

I had like 350 hours in this game from 2016-2019, then about 150ish in planet zoo. I still think those 2 games have the best creation system of any games out there, and I'm looking forward to see how much its improved in the sequel! I agree the paths were annoying, but I'd gotten so used to working around their limitations, that I was able to do pretty much everything with them.

My biggest hope is not that the game has changed a ton on the surface but that underlying systems have been improved. If they aren't going to use Steam for sharing blueprints I am concerned about the sharing tools. A new baseline is great for future content. I love the poppy colors -- I own Planet Zoo and play it once in a while but for me it is kind of boring for me -- too staid. The shade mechanic I'm excited about. I'm more of a management player while others are more decorators. The best thing about Planet Coaster it's for everyone.

With another new Frontier game coming out (I think it was sometime in 2026?), and the question of whether it is PZ2 - I'm curious about this concept of a different "model" of game release: The 2026 game is indeed PZ2, but a big announcement is that it can be combined with PC2. ie: PC2 and PZ2 are both standalone games, but if you buy both you can combine them. Perhaps other "planet" games get released in the future that can also be standalone or add-on to your Planet Franchise. You could have parks with rides and a few animals, a zoo with a few rides. Do you guys think this is feasible or possible?

You can build a nice water park in PC1 with a bit of work, but it doesn't function. In PC2 you can have working water parks that the people will interact with. And YOU can ride the slides, innertubes, etc. in first person view.

I completely get Silvs opinion about the game but I had the opposite opinion. I think planet coaster 1 had so many great things and it’s own unique look. I looked for planet coaster 2 to build off of that and make that game much better. Kinda like rct1 to rct2. The look and feel was pretty much the same but the enhanced the look and added so much more! I wasn’t looking for a new ground up game. I wanted the best of the original with enhancements and much more to offer!

The RCT3 implementation was also very barebones. You’d need a NASA level computer to be able to run a zoo, theme park, and water park at the level of detail with all of the systems and gameplay features of Zoo and Coaster

one thing i feel like i need to say to this whole "it feels more like an expansion than a new game" as a dev because the language people use is kinda murky. if you version a program, you mostly use semantic versioning (1.2.3) the 3 stands for patches changes like bug fixes or quality of life changes. the 2 stands for minor changes like new functions implemented within the program. the 1 stands for major changes that necessitate fundamental changes in the architecture or usage of a different language or database structure that make parts of it no longer compatible with the rest. in the scope of planet coaster, we stay within the main version, whereas dlcs qualify for minor changes and the patches we got somewhat regularly are exactly that. so as of now the game is 7 or so years old, so the technology is somewhat old, the engine has clear limitations (also computers got more powerful and people expect better graphics now). so if you want to update the path system now after so many addons, it would be super hard (as in would take a lot of time so money) to actually change the basic path tool because its one of the fundamental mechanics and any change there has huge implications and impacts on other aspects of the game (how to place benches for a start) so you get into that game where any changes leave you with thousands of bugs which lead to new ones once fixed themselves. so you need to start from scratch at some point and this is what they are doing. they built a new game where they change core mechanics in the game like the pathing, the scaling, the scenery on rides thing. and the water park aspects too, i think its incredibly smart to include that in the base game of planco2 for 2 reasons: 1: because then you can put that down right in the foundation so you dont have the headache of integrating that into the finished base game at some point (if you have a new ride, you can use existing things like stations, if you add new scenery you dont have to change core mechanics) 2: because you add something planco1 never had to justify exactly this sentiment of "oh its not a new game just an upgrade". they did planet coaster 2 to keep what worked and to fix what didnt. a studio like frontier will also already have planned what dlcs to do in the next few years and so they would have the requirements for those already in mind. they made a new foundation that will be able to power any new dlc for another 7 years i would assume. im really excited for planet coaster 2 and i would like to enter my name on to the petition for the koali beach crew reunion.

oh and what i mentioned but not enough i feel like: things like shade, power, pools, new pathing and smoother coaster builder are most likely not possible to be integrated in the existing framework of planco 1 without totally breaking everything.

adding to my thoughts: if ever there was a chance to implement true dark rides, this would be the time to do it. they are already adding functionality to the lighting (as it is important for the shade mechanics) so they are already overhauling the lighting systems. as dark rides is one of the most consistent wishes of the community, i wouldnt be surprised if they had that on their list to get right from the start, as adding it later would make it much more complicated.

Concerning the graphics, there might be the chance that the graphics will be way better on release, given that this is pre-alpha footage. On the other hand, I'm concerned that it wont change, since teleass is announced for fall 2024 already, wich is just a few months. But i cant really think why they would release it with graphics like this, when planet zoo already had way better graphics/looks than the PC2 trailer. It shouldnt be too complicated to make it look at least as good as a 6 year old game, let alone an 8 year old game

No dark ride lighting? Frontier should make a dark D3 bubble special effect four dark rides. Why? Bee cause total darkness won't work width out feeling the G forces, but a dark 3D bubble wood a lao you two sea as far as the b cart inn front of you. This creates the feeling of a total dark ride because you can sea the turns and loops, but you can't sea win it's coming.

I don't really care about all the additions that much. What has been shown to be added looks great, but I have two main concerns from the first game. 1: The paths. 2: The management. Both of which need to be at the level of the original RCT. Paths need to be intuitive and capable of creating what we intend, complex or otherwise. That Frontier achieved a level of customisation in the first game yet utterly failed on the paths is still bewildering to me. Secondly, beyond the frustration of the paths it was the utter lack of challenge and management which had me stop playing long before I would have. Building wonderful things in sandbox mode is great, but in any other game like this that feature is an addition, a bonus, not a primary purpose. The campaign and scenarios must by solid, challenging, interesting and the overall management of a park should take brain power. It should be puzzling. It should push back on you. The original RCT did both of these things perfectly. The pathing system was intuitive and fully functional. The Campaign was fun, it was tough, it had a learning curve and was very compelling. The amount of time spent in those levels I'd have built a beautiful, over-designed park like I would in a sandbox anyway, but with the additional gratification of having done it with all the other things to contend with. Earning the money to make it happen. A final point on Lady's concern. I dig the colourful vibes but if the awful Simcity 2014 could offer a selection of LUTs in the options menu for the player to choose how the games colours look and feel, there's no reason why Frontier couldn't do it too.

Makes it even more sad to see how you feel like you need to click all these PlanCo 2 vids to tell everyone what you think about the graphics, instead of just deciding you don't like the graphics after seeing the announcement trailer on the official PlanCo youtube channel and stop to even bother spend more energy looking at other videos and to comment.. for adding a challenge besides scenarios i think it would be more engaging to have planet zoo like heatmaps, like wheelchair access or stress in supports for the realistic players like @maskedbandit @mikesheets @nerdchacho @RudiRennKamel. and the option to enable / disable them so its upn the player the depth of gameplay or similation. in RCT3 and planco i like do do sometimes fanasy and story, or try to recreate coasters. great to have the crew uited once more
