I've always found Planet Coaster to be less of a management game and more a builder's game. For management, something like Parkitect feels more the vibe and harkens back to the reigning champions (RCT and RCT2) more than most others. As someone who probably enjoys management more, and doesn't have the time or resources to invest in building, I'll always lean towards Parkitect and RCT/RCT2/OpenRCT2 more, which is not to say there aren't fun building mechanics in those games. Thankfully, there's a ton of ways to get creative in those great management sims. I'll have to check out Indoorlands, though. It seems like a interesting contender for my time.
Interesting. I absolutely love Parkitect, but I mostly focus on the building and decorating part. I think the constraints of building on a grid and only having simple pieces to work with makes for a great building game where you don't need to spend hours on something just for it to look decent. It makes building stuff a lot less daunting.
1:20 I HAD COMPLETELY FORGOTTEN THIS GAME. the little ! mascot! I remember being at a friend's house staying up all night playing it because it wouldn't run on my machine
Now that i've finished the video I wanted to say great job breaking them down I really enjoyed your take on the various games in this super fun genre. I came across your channel about a month ago but saw you hadn't uploaded in a while so thought perhaps you'd gone dormant. Was really happy to see this upload and it's a good one. Thanks so much for making it.
@@MissManagement I have planet coaster but the detail oriented approach to park building made me burn out pretty fast, do you have any recommendations if i were to try it again
It's amazing!! So many solo devs make amazing games, I think because they can stick to their clear vision. Still way better than most games coming out today!
I still think RCT3 is my favourite. Could be nostalgia, but I think it just looks great. Even better than planet coaster which feels like it's missing something. And you can build awesome stuff without spending too much time or feeling overwhelmed (unlike Planco). Basically it's the classic games with 3D graphics, but without the complexity (RCT2 is even more complex IMO).
I still love RCT1 the most - its simplicity makes building nice looking parks by far the quickest out of all of these while still having a nice degree of customization. And its scenarios are *still* unmatched (though Parkitect's scenarios come close) and the most convenient way to accurately play them today is in OpenRCT2. When it comes to sandbox play, I still feel OpenRCT2 is punching well above its weight considering the age of the base game - communities like NewElement have been producing jaw dropping parks that rival the prettiest creations in Planet Coaster for the past two decades.
I just learned last week that Indoor Lands exists. My first thought was "Mall of America Simulator" but it does look less mall-like when I see it shown here. Totally getting it soon either way.
Going inside building/room things to customise rides was way more in-depth than I would have originally thought form the previews. It's also been a little while since i've played and have seen there's been major updates recently!
@@MissManagement As a side-note, I'm a game developer who loves making management games, both as my job as in my spare time, as well as playing them of course, so I'm super happy to see another woman showing their love of the genre too!
I just loaded Thrillville up on a PS2 emulator and its amazing. Also the PS3 emulation has really taken off in past couple of years with just about every game emulated and playable now. WWE ALL STARS for life! 8)
The best one id Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 Platinum Editionis the best one.Great review.I did n't know about Indoorland. Now anew coaster game to play. Big thanks.
Oh cool, I haven't played that but it looks fun :) I tried to focus on theme park management games - definintely lots of coaster simulation games out there that I'm not versed enough to cover!
Theme Park Inc! Holy shit I forgot I used to play that! The little dot guy seemed so familiar… lol wow I’m glad I clicked this video cause that was quite a nostalgia trip 😂
Such an iconic character!! A core memory unlocked when I'd first stumbled back across the game. Out of curiosity, did he have a Scottish or US accent from your memory? When researching this video, I read there was a different voice actor for the US version.
I played it before and it feels like I am really inside the game when selecting free walking mode in VR to buy tickets and ride flat rides and roller coasters.
I got planet coaster. It was way too much, a large learning curve (I wasn't willing to do), and doesn't hold your hand (tutorial is horrible). I want a more simple version. Too bad I purchased before watching this video.
Oh I remember feeling the same way and it took ages to create my first park in Planet Coaster. Starting small and suing the gallery will hopefully help!
See I'm like "yeah other games look cool too, I wanna play them" but then I'm like " but I already got Planet Coaster (and Planet Zoo)...might as well go play those ". And by play I mean build...I have parks closed I really don't care about guests I just wanna create and build.
