Parkitect or Planet Coaster? Theme park management game comparison!

Thinking of playing Parkitect or Planet Coaster? If you’re tossing up between the two theme park management sims, or perhaps you have one and not sure if the other is worth it - I’ll show you a bit of both games so you can make the call.
Parkitect has a more classic 'Roller Coaster Tycoon' feel, and Planet Coaster offers a modern coaster and theme park building experience.

Parkitect seems to be a spiritual successor to RCT2, while Planet Coaster takes after RCT3.

Funfact, Planet Coaster is the same organization that made RTC3 but obviously with a 10+ year gap and the staff changes that brings.

I thought that too. But IMO Planco is too complex to be the successor to RCT3. I'd even argue RCT2 was more complex than RCT3... RCT3 just had 3D graphics and coaster cam.

I'm someone that loved RCT3 but couldn't get into Planco. Parkitect is better for me. So IMO both are successors to RCT3, RCT2 fans have just stuck with OpenRCT2.

To make it simple - Parkitect is simpler and easier to manage and very user friendly for building theme parks and designing the world Planet Coaster has a massive set of tools and gives the player the ability to customize everything from the rides to the shops and building scenery pieces where the only limit is your imagination I would say Parkitect is a great game to introduce someone into tycoon style games, Planet Coaster is more for serious tycoon fans and those with unlimited imagination. Of course, anyone can enjoy both

I like both games but I prefer Parkiteck because it’s easier to decorate especially buildings!

I played PC for a while and got Parkitect earlier today and prefer Parkitect already. It better scratches the RCT2 itch for me

Me and my sister have played a ton of planet coaster and we love it! It’s so much fun making different parks, some realistic- others not. Also I really need to try Parkitect, I keep hearing amazing things about it!

Planet coaster is more overwhelming, not from the management side, but from the artistic side. But it also allows for more micro details and everything you could possibly desire, that's the main difference.

I prefer Planet Coaster, because of the better immersion, graphics, and the fact that you can actually try out the rides you have made. I really love theme parks and always have wanted to make my own and roam around it, so for this one I prefer Planet Coaster. I also love to make hills in the parks to make them look bigger, and hide rides from other rides.

I prefer Planet Coaster for how detailed it is. One problem is my PC specs are far worse than the minimum so It plays on around 20-30 FPS at best and freezes at times when I try build a coaster, so that kinda ruined my experience. But if you don't lag in the game, I can guarantee you will have an insanely fun experience!

I have a RTX 3080 and I still get low FPS in my worlds I think its just optimization

I like Parkitekt. Planet coaster relies to heavily on customization/creations and less on park management.

I like Parkitect because I feel like I need to be a professional to really handle all controlls to build great scenery. The only thing I don't like about Parkitect is that it's a little too cartoony for me. The guests look like bobbleheads and are way too big compared to the attractions. I like a bit more simplicity like the original RCT realistic feel.

Thanks for the video. I was curious to watch this bc I own planet coaster, and so I was just seeing if anything could really Rival it. The comparison that you presented me told me all I needed to know in regards tor Parkitect vs Planet Coaster, and that is... No, it doesnt rival it. I also found that I have the same hardships that you have while playing Planet coaster. In that regard I do have a question, if you would kindly indulge me. My question is, during long term park sessions, are you able to keep your staff? What I have found, is that regardless of what I do, it is inevitable that my staff will quit. I try to stop it by the usual ways, with training, and pay raises, but eventually they are max pay and trained, and they quit. Do you experience this? If not how do you stop the, inevitable from happening?

Hey and sorry for the incredibly late reply!! I think I am able to keep my staff but from memory (it's been a while now since I've played a long session of Planet Coaster) I remember needing to give them pay rises and the workload would have an impact on their happiness. What game year have you gotten to?

I honestly comment to creators about issues that I have had with various games, just trying to glean a small amount of insight just to make my experience better, and you are the only one that has EVER responded. So, to that I sincerely grateful, and also its better late than never. I haven't played Planet Coaster in a while so i had to load up a save. And it looks like it was around Game year 4, though I was having staff management issues probably around year 2 if I am being honest. I also feel ashamed to say that the ''save game'' that my initial comment was predicated on was one of the career challenges That I was doing reasonably well in. I know its pathetic that I cant go from scratch. I just find that the sort of templates the game gives you in career mode is a good starting point for me. On to your answer, If I am not mistaken, you say that on top of training i have to give a workload to my staff that can boost their happiness? Is that random for each staff? For instance say I have a staff member working in Chief Beef, and he's not happy no matter the money, if I switch him to merch sales, it may be a better fit? If you could clarify i would appreciate it. Thanks again for your response!

Thank you for this video; it really helped me choose! I love Roller Coster Tycoon, but the graphics is getting old... I choose Planet Coaster for now as it is on special via Steam, but I will also buy Parkitect a bit later.

The best thing is online co-op with 8 players in parkitect, does Planet Coaster have multiplayer out of the box these days?

Hey Tessie - Planet Coaster doesn't have co-op game options, and I haven't seen any plans for them to implement. Parkitect is definitely the winner in this respect :)

It is mostly subjective they are both great games. It only becomes objective when you compare Parkitect to something low quality like RCT4Mobile. Or comparing Planet Coaster to the failed broken sequel called RCTWorld.

Parkitect because:- 1) No pathetic subscription to old DLC which is just another obvious cash grab by the jokers at Frontier. 2) Frontier sued Atari over RCT3 (the company that gave them their first break) claiming that they got robbed, which is a weird stance for a bunch of daylight robbers. 3) Parkitect is actually fun to play and gets constant updates which add value to the game, no ridiculous Knight Rider and Ghostbusters DLC for Parkitect. 4) Parkitect has a better community (all the youtube circle jerkers tend to prefer Planet Coaster, or they did back in the day). 5) Planet Coaster uses Denovu, which is very anti-consumer and makes no sense on places like Steam where people legitimately own their copy yet cannot play it offline!

I highly agree, I aswell was frustated playing the first 1-2 rounds, trying to figure out the important controls on my own. But after watching a few tutorial videos here on youtube, I was good to go. :) I guess thats the price you gotta pay, for playing the far more complex and advanced game compared to parkitect.
