@@DaveMaguire I think Kingdom was better than Rise. The only improvement Rise had over Kingdom was the fact that it was more character driven for Caesar. So I have an interesting experience with this franchise. When I was a kid I used to stop by one of my friend's houses before school and then we would walk to school together. While waiting her dad would play the original Planet of the Apes movies to give us something to do. And so I watched the first three movies of the original run in like 10-15 increments over the course of months.

I recently rewatched the 1968 film and I think it's much better than you give it credit. Sure, some FX are dated, but the way it pulls from so many genres into a well-paced and emotional film is still impressive. And as a STAR TREK fan, I'd think you'd appreciate how the film basically begins with Charlton Heston giving a "captain's log."

My personal ranking 10:beneath 9: conquest 8:2001 remake 7:battle 6:escape 5:rise- I absolutely love how this movie tells ceasers story I just have it at 5 because it’s the setup to all that we get later on and the next 4 movies are all amazing in their own right 4:original- still works, and is such a triumph in cinema and despite heavy themes they work. It’s just dated in certain aspects and the first 30 minutes take a bit to get going 3: kingdom- planet of the apes is back and just as good as ever, the only real issues I had with the film was how long it took to meet proximus ceaser and how little screen time we got. And Raka should not have died but I know why he had too in the story 2- war pretty flawless film that mixes so many different elements that most of the time don’t work together but finds a way to put it all together. Ceaser’s send off ended his trilogy perfectly 1-dawn- perfect planet of the apes film, Koba is such a compelling villian where the audience can hate him for what he does but can see where he’s coming from. And ceaser and his dynamic with the humans works so well in this movie so definitely my number 1

The classics (especially the first film but also the third and fourth films) I still have a big soft spot for, but these new films are just incredibly epic and emotional. Out of the most recent reboot, I think I am the only one who liked Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes the most. While it didn't have a monkey holding ak-47s while riding a horse (which was awesome, won't disagree with that) it had the best character development. Ceasar going from a naive immature kid to a broken ape and finishing as an independent leader was great to see. However what helped the most was the people. The thing that has been hurting the other films in this franchise is the blandness of the people. While dawn is amazing, not a single person leaves the theater saying wow that human was my favourite part. In rise, Will and Charles's story is fantastic, plausible, and the conclusion is gut wrenching. Truly a masterpiece

I think the Cesar trilogy did something incredibly rare, where every film is better than the last. They're each incredible. The only problem is, War is so emotionally haunting, I can't watch it very often. That said, with what that film was going for, that's a compliment. No film in the series asks the question as to whether humanity is worth saving better than this one, and it's a question that's been there from the start.

Dawn was the movie that pretty much ignited my passion for movies, I was hesitant to see it because of how dark it seemed but wow, still to this day one of my favourite films of all time

I really wanted to like Kingdom but I just can’t bring myself to rate it that highly. I feel like it doesn’t compare to any of the other 3 movies of the new trilogy. It always felt almost boring, and I feel like it didn’t do enough to make me that interested in the plot that was there. For me it goes: 1) Dawn: 9.5/10 2) War: 9/10 3) Rise: 8.5/10 4) Kingdom: 5/10

Shame you missed Rise of the Planet of the Apes in theaters. What cemented that movie for me, was that the climatic moment of the film is a main character speaking a single word. My packed theater was completely immersed in that moment too.

When you look at it, though, it seemed (especially in the 70s) that just about any hit movie had a chance of getting a TV spin-off. But for every “Odd Couple” or “MASH,” you had a “Delta House (Animal House sequel series),” “Shaft,” “The Bad News Bears,” “Logan’s Run” or “9 to 5.” The blu ray of Blazing Saddles even contains the failed pilot of a TV adaptation with Louis Gossett, Jr. as Sheriff Bart. Studios have never been afraid to beat a dead horse.

I love it too, I would still put the modern trilogy and kingdom above Burton's remake but Tim Roth is one of the best villains in the franchise and Danny Elfman's score and the prosthestics are still phenomenal.

Conquest and Battle seemed like Fox was trying to gauge whether to keep putting these movies out theatrically or just go ahead and shift it over to TV, which they eventually did. The budget for Battle was only a third of the first movie, and Battle and Conquest were both handed over to J. Lee Thompson, who while he did make the original Cape Fear, was more or less a director for hire by the 70s who primarily made Charles Bronson movies. For Battle, Fox didn’t want an auteur, they just wanted someone who could shoot a movie in 6 weeks so they could keep selling Dr. Zaius action figures.

Rise Dawn and War is one of the greatest trilogies I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing 💯 Caesar, in my opinion, is the best movie character of the past 30 or 40 years. He’s right up there with Indiana Jones as far as being one of my favorite and impactful 💯💯💯
