My #1 favorite film composer. I remember as a 16 year old hearing this at the theater and was blown away! You can hear references from the great classical composer Edgar Varese's "Arcana". Stylistically, it's basically the same type of orchestrations and tensions. All composers 'borrow' and some outright 'steal'!
TV series was the worst. I went from an 8 year-old super fan to an eleven year burn out. It was so unimaginative and so much the hokum mid-70's family fare... but with great makeups and Roddy McDowall. And Mark Lenard, too!
Wow… Came across this while on my phone during a lunch break. I bought the record in 1976, Heard it hundreds of times. Seen the movie loads of times. But this!!! While watching, I was mesmerized watching the orchestra, tears filling my eyes. I had to stop eating. Twice I found myself holding my breath! I’ve never imagined, let alone seen human beings making the music I know so well. THAT blew me away! Thanks for posting this!!!

They also cut out a section in the middle that repeated the strange “rams horn” sounds. I wish they had tried to re-create that same sound instead of using regular trumpets. I guess the horn section couldn’t handle it.

Agreed, Julia. There is no 'live orchestra" footage of the exact FULL score I could find - just this IMO great shortened version from Fimucite. It took a few hours for me to 're-score" but I think it catches the essence and is a fitting tribute to the great Goldsmith. Alas, there's no satisfying some who I'm sure would find fault if Jerry himself w/the original orchestra played it ON the actual Planet of the Apes,..perhaps because they reside on the "Planet of the Karens" and must whine about everything.

In less than an hour, we'll finish our sixth month out of Cape Kennedy. Six months in deep space - by our time, that is. According to Dr. Haslein's theory of time, in a vehicle travelling nearly the speed of light, the Earth has aged nearly 700 years since we left it, while we've aged hardly at all. Maybe so. This much is probably true - the men who sent us on this journey are long since dead and gone. You who are reading me now are a different breed - I hope a better one. I leave the 20th century with no regrets. But one more thing - if anybody's listening, that is. Nothing scientific. It's purely personal. But seen from out here everything seems different. Time bends. Space is boundless. It squashes a man's ego. I feel lonely. That's about it. Tell me, though. Does man, that marvel of the universe, that glorious paradox who sent me to the stars, still make war against his brother? Keep his neighbor's children starving?
How many casual viewers of this series have made the connection that "Dr. Haslein" is the same character as the one played by Eric Braeden in "Escape from the Planet of the Apes"?
@@curtisburga943 Oh yeah, I picked it up and I love that intro speech Heston gives at the beginning of the film before the films credits. It has the ring of truth to it. Love it and the entire film, story, dialogue, music score, acting, make-up, costumes, sets, locations, cinematography, directing, twist ending, Linda Harrison, space ship all of it fantastic!
Very well performed, unfortunately too slow tempo especially if played with the picture. Tempo has to be fast also because the scene is fast, they’re all running…
To the snob “experts” who are p***ing and moaning about tempo, guess what? It all paid the same that day😉. And geez, what would Jerry Goldsmith know anyway (that’s a joke there son; don’t you know a “joke”?). A great quote from Foghorn Leghorn… Lighten up. Just a suggestion.
