After watching your videos, i started to wash and learn how to service my bike and because of that, i found out that my rear derailleur was fully toasted cause of a previous crash, i got that replaced and now my bike feels like a different machine, runs super smooth and its easier to pedal after giving the chain and cassette a good scrub down. Thanks for these videos as always, love from Malaysia

I'm a home mechanic, I do my own maintenance and I've upgraded almost every component on my bikes just as a hobby. I love tinkering, researching and buying tools probably more than I love riding bikes. This channel is an important part of the hobby for me, seeing someone do actual bike maintenance (about 5x times as fast as I do it) is fascinating. Keep up the good work!

As someone who loves bicycles, it is depressing to see how the owner neglected his bike. You can see rust on the cassette and chain despite being cleaned in the ultrasonic cleaner, and generally the bike was absolutely fifthly when it was bought in. Great job restoring the bike.
@chbrosz
@chbrosz 2 года назад
when he put the cassette gears back on, they were squeaky clean, no rust, so it makes me think that the chain still had some gunk in it after the cleaning, which came out onto the cassette for the shots at the end. Considering how disgusting that chain was, not surprised that he didn't get everything out, esp. if he just did a single bath with it.

8:35. No sleeve exiting the rear derailleur barrel adjuster. Without it , the cable saws away the rear der. Causing poor shifting and possible cable failure. Very important on high leverage derailleurs found on 11 speed group sets.

It is because it had spacers above the stem. That means unless he is running a 70mm + plug the pressure of the stems lower bolt will crush into the carbon steerer over time. Ive seen many crashes from this. All my bikes I inspect for this. Most second hand carbon bikes have steerer damage. It is insane how common it is.

as someone that does 95% of my own bike maintenance, I'm amazed that people buy machines like this & don't look after them, basic maintenance isn't that difficult nor is washing your bike. Nice carbon repair, most would probably have thrown that away & bought a new one.

The issue with the steerer tube was well spotted, possibly caused by over tightening the stem ? The bike (in my opinion) looked uncared for, but that could be for a number of reasons. I'm just thankful he brought the bike to you rather than some backstreet bike mechanic. I've never seen such a thorough service, on every bike you do. Excellent work 👍 Oh, and the yellow caps usually come with continental tubes.

4:42 is stem clamp cracks too. If you dont chamfer the split line on the stems they will put pressure points on the back of the tube, even if torqued up. That expander plug looked woeful too. You want one extending down past the upper bearing

I know you said in a video, you dont record all the steps sometimes, but do you generally re-grease the threads with copper paste on the pedals? I havent seen you done it. Hi, nice work with the carbon repair. Can you share the name of the shop/country where you had the work done? Also, did you have to use a smaller expander plug to fit the steerer post repair?
@mikedaugherty53
@mikedaugherty53 2 года назад
When you clamp carbon frame bikes to your work stand, do you always clamp on the seat post? Or does it really depend on the specific bike. I did notice that you put a microfiber towel around that seat post to protect it.

Does anyone race with a traditional steel DB frame these days, when out and about all I seem to see is CF, when I look at the prices of these frames it makes the old 653 frames I lusted after in my youth seem cheap in comparison. I must admit, when a CF framed bike passes me and the rider changes gear the sound it makes through the frame sounds like cracking and brittle and it’s all about to explode! Nice lot of room for sponsors names though on those slabs sides!
