For all my viewers from Thailand, here's an Indian elephant exhibit build with a Thai theme. I'm not as much an expert of Thai architecture as I am of some Far Eastern/European styles, but I had a lot of fun trying to bend the pieces of the game to create a new, modular theme.
You can download the whole build (+ the Japanese macaques habitat and giraffe building habitat) here: steamcommunity...

First of all, You’ve done so well! Nothing can stop you now 😂 In classic Thai architecture, The main building of your elephant exhibition is call Kutakan (กุฎาคาร). The building with the pointed dome (steeple prangs - ยอดปรางค์ or Kherung-Yod เครื่องยอด) on the top of the roof (the element at 28:23 ). For the example, The Royal Pantheon in the Temple of the Emerald Buddha in the Grand Palace.

I find something really sweet in the fact that when presented with a new viewer demographic, you're like, "Welcome, love your architecture, watch me recreate it with as many pieces as possible"! When you actually get around to building a full zoo, or even something comparable in size to say Jägerhorn, maybe pick a theme that will let you just use in game roofs :P

@Bethgael
@Bethgael 4 года назад
@@Geekism Indeed. [Except Americans say Seltics]. Buuut: Those exceptions show the root of each word--and often the roots aren't exceptions, they've become modern parlance post-rule.. Sync is actually not an exception, because it's an abbreviation of "Syncopation/synchopation" (and, indeed, in Australia we'd spell it "synched" not "synced"--the "ch" k shows its Greek roots, like "school" and is therefore not a "c having a sound by itself"). Soccer, likewise, is actually an abbreviation for As[soc]iation Football (and in the UK how dare you call it Soccer!) ;) Celtic is actually a Greek rooted word and really should be spelled with a K because we stole it from "Keltoi" (Latinised Greek)--but in Irish, see the C IS said a a K before those vowels (ie, the word is not an "English' word). eg: The name we see spelled "Ciara" is actually pronunced "Keera" in Modern Irish. Irish is, of course, not English, and the word came to us via Irish, via Latin, via Greek. Non-English words don't have to follow English rules. :) Skeptical used to be spelled with a k (and still is in the USA). I still insist on doing so, because whenever I see someone saying that they're "sceptical" about something I have trouble resisting the urge to tell them to just get out of the poo tank, for pity's sake. ;) Even if not, that's, what, 4 alleged exceptions? The g/j sound is worse, frankly, since it only follows the i,e,y rule /sometimes/, even as an English rule. :D [Edited for typoes]

I'm not an architecture and I'm not sure my search is correct but I did try some google. What you've said about Chor-Fah is right but only the most top part. There are also Haang-Hong (Swan Tail) at both ends of the isosceles which is similar to Chor-Fah but they call in a different name. The wooden piece that connect Chor-Fah and Haang Hong is called Bai-Ra-Ga. And what you've ask about the round spire, this is from my understanding (Thai architecture, if you're here correct me if I'm wrong) if the spire isa big dedicate one, They will call Chay-Dee (Pagoda) which is a round one or another similar to what you've build with some small corner overlap each other is Phra-Prang or Prang.

Yay!! Indian Elephants/Asian Elephants in general are my favourite animals! Everyone kind of defaults to the African Elephants in their zoos. I don't think I've seen a single Indian Elephant exhibit yet? It's gorgeous! Also I agree about the waterfalls being very oversaturated in youtuber exhibits lol. But here I think it really fits? Large exhibits like this kind of lend themselves to having waterfalls way more than an exhibit for say Bison or Pronghorn which live in super flat lands. It just kinda makes sense here!

Here is a little idea I'm working for a new habitat for the Taiwan bear. I use stage ricery witch a typical of vietnam but also much common in taiwan to make natural separation between habitat (has I said before, I try to make multiple habitat for the same animal for breeding). The ricery is topped by a Tainan inspired Temple for viewer with a big terasse and the staff building (also Tainan inspired but smaller) is at the crossing of the 3 habitat. Staircaise is build nicely to permit staff to acces the base ground of the ricery witch is provided by a forest on the side. Under the temple you have a big cave for the animal witch can be acces by the viewer temple. Don't know how to provide the picture but anyway, I though it would be an original habitat for you to work on. You'll see that ricery has to be quite deep to set water inside it. The trick is to fill it just under the water with the plant ground (paillaige in french). use smaller plant to play the role of rice. What is interresting is that these plant will make natural separation between habitat ;) Have fun !

I love your focus on Thai theme to acknowledge your audience, as well as your clarity regarding it. Feel free to take your time in creating a zoo, I think I can speak for a great deal of your audience when I say that these individual exhibits are brilliant all by themselves, and seem to allow you to explore the game without the contraints of having to remain within a single zoo's overarching theme. The top spire on the roof is called "เครื่องยอด" (kreung-yod). Basically translated to "top ornament" . It usually a part of the important building such as the on that carried buddha statue or the one inside Royal palace. There is one specific type of เครื่องยอด that usually associated with the royal family! There was one beautiful small pavillion at Lausanne which is the place where his majesty late king RamaIX live as a child. That angled top spire style was Royal palace style. The rounded one you use is the style inspire from another type of architecture called "เจดีย์" (Che-di) (simply a Pagoda). More specifically เจดีย์ทรงระฆัง (bell shaped pagoda). Anyway, very nice habitat here! As a traditional Thai architecture student and a thais myself I'm really impressed with your build! Thai traditional building is really hard to create even in the proper 3d modeling program (that slightly curved roof and heavily detailed ornament was nightmare). So I think what you have accomplish in the game with very limited piece is truly amazing! Keep up the good work!

If you want more reference pic from different type of thai architecture or just interested, I recomended this site www.thai-architecture.com/wwproj.html It was the collection of the work of dr.Pinyo, one of famous treditional thai architecture. The site was nicely translated in English and have a decent detailed image of some ornamented feature of Thai architectural work. Catagirized nicely in different building type too!

Thanks for the info! Judging from the significant cultural meaning of the rounded spire, it was a bit a culturally insensitive to add it to a zoo decoration of all things. But it's a beautiful building element, sometimes I think that's what counts. Thanks for the link, will have to save that in case I ever revisit the theme :)

@@Silvarret Yeah...it can be considered as insensitive (many Thai resort that use architectural element from Thai temple face some kind of controversial too.) But I think most of us don't mind much. You didn't disrespect the architecture, and did a decent amout of reserch. I think most of us were glad that there was a foreigner interested in our culture ;)

This is so awesome! I've been loving your Planet Zoo builds and even though I'm not Thai, I was so surprised to hear you mention the Thai Temple from Olbrich Botanical Gardens because I'm from the Madison, Wisconsin area!! It is one of the prettiest gardens to walk through and the temple always takes my breath away to see. I always appreciate how attentive you are with your builds and how informational your videos are. Good job 😊

Hello from Thailand, I've been a subscriber ever since City Skylines. Didn't know about the tweets you mentioned, but really enjoyed this build though, I think you've done well using just the in-game pieces. Love your work! :)

Amazing job. I love watching your videos cause of the research you actually do, and I'm sure your new Thai viewers really appreciate it too. I mostly only watched your Parkitect stuff, but Planet Zoo looks next level. 🤩
