Today I'm playing Planetside 2 again, since I've had a break from the game for some time, ventilating some thoughts about the game and it's current status and therefore open up for a possible discussion as well. I still believe that Planetside 2 is worth playing also in 2024, even if the player count has diminished. But I would also welcome a sequel or a remake(!) if that's the case :)

So even if the game now is almost 12 years old, I still encourage new fps gamers to try it out since it can potentially become one of your favourite fps games as well if you give it a try. PlanetSide 2 is a free-to-play massively multiplayer online first-person shooter developed by Rogue Planet Games and published by Daybreak Game Company. The game supports battles with thousands of players (up to 2,000 on a single map) and incorporates modern first-person shooter mechanics. Six different infantry classes and over 18 ground and air vehicles are available to players and interact on the battlefield to simulate combined arms warfare. As a "re-imagining" of PlanetSide, PlanetSide 2 chronicles the efforts of three factions fighting for territorial control of the planet Auraxis.
Along with its prequel, PlanetSide 2 is one of the very few massively multiplayer online first-person shooters to have ever released, and is presently considered one of the most successful titles in the genre. The game uses ForgeLight, a proprietary game engine which supports high player counts while retaining performance and graphical fidelity. PlanetSide 2 operates on a games as a service business model and is supported by microtransaction purchases. Since its launch, the game has received regular updates which have introduced new content and mechanics.

Doing a live commentary playing Planetside 2, since this is one of the games I've enjoyed playing the most recent years. I've only been playing the game for ten days as a new player. Although I have been experiencing player hacking for the past ten days, the game is still entertaining, especially in the battlefield. I sincerely hope that the new group will come up with a more effective way to stop the hackers.

@@norman4588 Thanks for your feedback! Yes, cheaters are such a hassle nowadays in most online shooter, especially free to play titles.

Planetside 2 looks a lot better and modern-ish in ultra graphic settings, but to enjoy a massive game like this we need some computer power. A new remake to make graphic resources usages more efficient could do good. Planetside IP is recently bought by a new company and they had little survey among players. Maybe they have some plans.

Thanks for saying! Yes, Planetside 2 can indeed look even better with a more powerful build compared to what I have at the moment. But even so, the thought of some kind of remake is an exciting thought. I also heard that the Planetside IP has been bought by a new company. I thought about making a video about it, but thought I'd wait until we know more. I hope they want to put some work into their newly bought IP/Game :)

It's ironic, but Planetside's potential competitors aren't in the best shape either. The battlebit that made a sensation in indie shooters last summer has been blown away by more than four times its population size. The battlefield series is also sad. Yes, there are a little more than a thousand of us left. We're damn salty, but we're also excited for new players to discover this game.

Thanks a lot for your comment! Yeah, I followed and played Battlebit Remastered a bit, and made some videos as well. I believe that the game had a bit of a problem when it comes to finding it's identity. I hope though that Planetside 2 will be around for some years to come, I also intend to be one of those 1k players still paying the game. And as you say, we're excited for new players to join in as well :)

True, it's best to stick to the GOAT Project Reality mod to Battlefield 2. The only one worth playing, I only play Squad with friends I can't convince to install PR. But I do love Planetside 2, it really blows everybody but PR out of the water. PR got an injection a time ago and can have between 400-700 players each night.

I've also been taking a break from Planetside 2 and playing another game for the past couple of months but I will always go back to Planetside. It's just amazing and offers a unique experience that no other game does. Also, thumbs up for shooting NuclearTouch in the face with a sniper rifle 👍 He's a good player but I've seen him being very toxic, even to friendlies, when I play my VS character. I remember he teamkilled me for no reason on my very first day playing the game and then sent me messages telling me I was "trash" at the game. Of course I was, I just started playing about an hour before! XD It seems he was doing this to a lot of players in a bioloab for no reason. I killed him too though. Turns out shooting people in the back when they think you're an ally is very easy but not much fun so I started playing NC instead because of that idiot.

Thanks for your feedback and sorry to hear about those experiences. So unnecessary that some guys are behaving like that. Well, I guess then he deserved what was coming when it comes to me sniping him, lol.

Exactly! I was reading about it yesterday on the Planetside 2 website, so I'll most likely make a video about that now that they've taken over.

@@40splishsplash You know if they integrate a new engine to the game and get a new marketing team together I can see this game blowing up again I really hope they realize that the game engine could be the real change they need not so much the concept.

You should show your favorite loadouts and how they play! Also it would be cool if you made an implant tier list. I really think we don't have enough videos about those things
