It's not really important but here you are Mr Graham - "You like me, you really like me," was said by Sally Field in 1985 when she won the best actress oscar for the movie Places in the Heart. (This was when Hollywood still had actresses and actors, not just actors).
Not me. Farrage will pledge to any cause that will him into power. Once there he be no different to what we already have. The difference is the betrayal people will feel when they find this out.
The smoking ban is ridiculous, does the Prime Minister think that those who can't buy cigarettes won't find a way to a way to get them. Prohibition doesn't work it just makes the thing that is prohibited become criminal as criminals will just step in and supply them. The government hasn't been able to stop drugs being sold. The American's couldn't stop alcohol during Prohibition all that happened was criminal gangs took over. The government should be dealing with sorting out the migrant crisis
I think it's more about removing cigarettes from popular culture and general visibility in order to discourage younger generations. Half the people I used to work with years ago smoked - now I know hardly anyone who smokes. Got to be good, right?
Unfortunatley its about 30 yrs to late. Just research most of the people running councils in Bradford, Birmingham and lots of other areas up North, its finished, this country is broken to its core. Hundreds of thousands of fighting age illegal immigrants in hotels...the UK is over.
HUMZA YOUSAF IS PLANK OFTHE WEEK BECAUSE MEGAN IS IN AMERICA AND NOT HERE ……. UNFORTUNATELY HUMZA YOUSAF HASNT GOT THE MESSAGE YET THAT HE IS NOT WANTED
Interesting comparison. I was about to do the same maths. Where is the data on treatment costs coming from. Looks like a gross underestimate to me. You add in production days lost to smoking-related illness and I suspect the picture is more in favour of the PM. You must include all societal costs, speaking as a health economist.
The very fact she comes away feeling slightly depressed over some of the stories actually fills me with hope. Eventually this insanity will crack and the hole will drown them all.
If Rishi Sunak is worried about public health then why didn’t he and the other MP’s attend Parliament when Andrew Bridgen raised a very serious health issue. Restricting people from smoking is just a distraction from a much more serious health issue
I disagree. It’s a legitimate concern that people who smoke are disproportionately consuming scarce health resources. If you want lower taxes, make smokers pay for their own Private health insurance. Come to SA and see what that will cost you.
It seems that everyone keeps saying that Britain is broken... Mike, do you think if every one donated a tube of glue to our Government, we could stick it together again? 😂
No, prohibition has been tried before, it doesn't work... ban anything and human nature is "I want THAT!" ....So if the tax on it goes to hospitals for caring for the sick...then you've just paid in advance for your care..... all good!!👍👍
I don't understand. Richard Tice was blamed for playing a part in bringing Britain out of the E.U. in Switzerland? But Switzerland isn't in the E.U. either. I'm surprised no one pointed that out.
To the commentator who believes it's acceptable for a government to ban smoking for health reasons, what is next on the ban list? Alcohol, beer, carbs? There are plenty of items we enjoy that can be harmful to our health, but is it up to a central government, or any government, to make that decision for us.
They will be banning anyone over 70 soon. They are already telling us how to live our lives, next step when it should come to an end. Just give them a few years and they’ll think up a palliative reason.
They already do it, in terms of taxation on alcohol and restrictions on ingredients in foodstuffs. You can argue the toss, but I don't there is a single positive thing to be said in favour of cigarettes, but an occasional glass of red wine is great for your heart, and there is nothing nicer than a fresh cream bun after a bad morning in the office :)
Always amused me that during Covid Lockdown, the Govt closed all the gyms, and practically banned people from taking any meaningful exercise. Meanwhile, all pizza and kebab shops and deliveries were on overload !!
H and M grifted in Canada for several months while we Canadians were paying for their security. Then our government said no more, and off they went to California.
I love this programme but please FOR THE LOVE OF GOD will Mike Graham shut up 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬. I want to actually hear the guests speaking. After tonight's episode he is the biggest contender for the prize than any of the nominees.
I'm with you. Plank of the Week is my Saturday morning treat but Mike Graham constantly talking over his guests is driving me nuts especially as his voice is booming enough to drown them out. Please Mike, let your guests speak!!!!
I agree 100%. As I said in a separate comment I love the show but the constant interruptions and speaking over each other is excruciating. Please let the guests present their Plank and then have a discussion.
Mike seemed intent on getting his own opinion out before his guests had a chance for some reason in this show, please let them speak, it was hard to follow in parts
All Parties except Conservative voted for the Hate Crime Bill. Along with the Conservatives only 3 Labour MSPs and the Reform MSP voted against and there were 4 abstentions. Labour, LibDem and Green seem to be keeping this shocking fact quiet.
Good programme, plenty of variety of subjects but Mike, please, please give the panellists a chance to introduce their subjects properly without continual interruption. A few seconds would suffice. Thanks.
When I joined the RN back in the early 80’s no one even asked if I could swim…because we learnt to do that at school. Says more about what goes on in teaching than it does about the RN.
I think turning the other cheek is all very well, when your with others in your religion , who think the same, and have the same values, in an ideal world , but it isn't an ideal world and Christians shouldn't be attacked just because they don't fight back ...
I hate to break it to you, a 5th of the USMarine recruits 20 years ago didn’t know how to swim, and then we taught them. Since DDay where more Marines drowned than die by the enemy, we have taught swimming.
