I love watching Zoran figure out strategies, this is 15 chapters ahead of the current run and it's meant to help figure out where to train Benny 2 levels so he can promote on 20. The amount of planning and prep in advance is insane and the strats used plus how they are optimized is nuts. Seeing Fates pushed to it's extreme really shows the masterclass fire emblem strategy can be and how beautiful fates is in it's level and system design

This is a really interesting position to look at how legitimately good one of my favorite skills in this game is, Rally Luck As you mentioned, there's some suspect reliability here, even after the Rally Skill in total, Silas faces 5 discrete points of random variance and the Benny/Corrin pair face 4 points of randomness, those being Silas needing to hit all of a; 94% 81% and 87% as well as needing to dodge a 4% and a 2% crit, while Benny needs to dodge a 2% crit and Corrin needs to hit a 93%, 72%, and 76% in total and accounting for the difference in displayed and actual hit that should be a 80.6% Chance for Silas to succeed up north and a 67.5% chance for Benny and Corrin to make it through down south, and since both events need to succeed for the clear to work it's a 54.4% chance, honestly, not too bad for such an explosive turn 1 in the Kitsune map But Rally Luck changes that massively if all 3 units were affected by it all the crit chances would be zeroed out and the accuracy would jump noticeably, and redoing the math with 8 more points of luck in the equation yields a 91.5% chance of success for Silas and a 77.2% chance of success for Benny, jumping the total odds of success up to 70.6% Nearly a 20 percentage point jump in reliability from a single Rally is pretty huge, and of course given that the major variance here is coming from accuracy and Rally Skill does give 2 additional points of hit over Rally Luck, it speaks volumes to how much Rally Skill is actually doing here, getting you above 50% reliability, which is probably an acceptable level of reliability for turn 1. And obviously Rally Luck is completely infeasible to obtain and use here, as it requires either Corrin's talent or to be deploying and investing EXP into a captured unit, something you don't have the luxury of doing given the challenge, but it's an interesting look at an extremely potent skill that most players would have easy access to.

Awesome comment. A lucky thing for Silas is that, if I’m willing to take an extra turn or two in the final recording, he doesn’t strictly have to hit all of his attacks on turn 1. While I was planning for chapter 16, I dug up my notes on my original strategy for this run from 2019. I remembered that map being miserable, so I ran the math. The overall chance of success ended up being something like 2.1%. Needless to say, that particular strategy has been heavily reworked. (It helps a lot that I modified my rules on the training requirement to allow promotion before level 20.)

So If i'm correct, based on Zoran's old videos on conquest, his pairings for this LP will be: M Corrin x Ophelia = F Kana Silas x Camilla = Sophie Arthur x Effie = Percy Odin x Elise = Ophelia Niles x Nyx = Nina Kaze x Beruka = Midori Laslow x Selena = Soleil Benny x Peri = Ignatius Leo x Felicia = Forrest Keaton x Mozu = Velouria Jakob x Azura = Dwyer & Shigure Xander x Charlotte = Siegbert Gunter, Flora, Izana and Shura will have to get A+ with Corrin And no, i don't know who will the kids be paired up with (Except Ophelia of course)

My favoured strategy in Fates is to get Effie and Benny to +5 General before this map. Marching side by side and keeping to the forests with Wary Fighter, they can take on the whole top of the map before the stump, leaving the rest of my army to inch across the bridge, feeding weaker units. It's in no way optimal, but this is one of the few chapters in any FE game where the General class can really shine. Always fun to see new strategies. Great video.
@GIR177
@GIR177 2 года назад
Generals are certainly one way to trivailize the map, you just have to be aware of the investment and that it's not super necessary unless you want to do it. Base level Xander reclassed to Wyvern Lord has nearly the same defense as an average 20/5 General Benny when you take Siegfried and his personal skill Chivalry into account, potentially more with Defender.

One of the things I learned a few years into playing Fire Emblem that made me a better player is that it's perfectly acceptable to play a map multiple times. Usually when I go into a map I'll only give it a 5 minute look to check for problem enemies and objectives, and start it with my best guess about deployment and item management. If something goes wrong, as it often does on the first couple turns, I'll just keep going until I get a Game Over condition and am forced to reset. That way I can experiment and come up with strategies and see damage thresholds that I may have missed before.
@marionberries
@marionberries 2 года назад
Watching those HPs drain was nail biting. I typically play much more conservatively and do on-the-fly calculations for survival and kill thresholds, so it's always a pleasure to see how well planned out this LP is.

This might have been the most interesting video you've ever put out in terms of strategic planning. On that note, I want to cover an aspect I think you were a little thin on for this specific demonstration as it's been something that's driven my thought process as well and you've mentioned before. You've previously mentioned that there's several layers of thought when it comes to a Fire Emblem run. I personally think there's 3 - tactical, map and grand strategy. Tactical is the move-by-move optimizations, map strategy is the arrangement of who goes where and handles what and grand strategy involves the build and support paths of the playthrough. From what I saw here, I inferred that your first steps of routing maps are at the tactical layer but I prefer to do it from out to in (as in grand strategy first, then map then tactical). When I've been routing a map in my own run I've been thinking first and foremost about what I'm trying to get out of the map. That means which supports, which weapon ranks, which skills and levels etc etc. To turn this into a concrete example, let's take the Benny routing for his 2 levels. I'm planning to have Benny S rank with Beruka. So I would like them to work together as often as possible to minimize the number of maps I need to have them deployed together and potentially drop one or both for better units later. Now, while Xander is obviously a better unit and there's nothing wrong with him on the tactical or map level, I would have first tried deploying Benny with Beruka and seeing if Benny could accomplish the same goals that he could with Xander ferrying. On the tactical level, Benny's supports with Beruka are likely higher than with Xander or Corrin so I can also count on him using her Dual Strikes as well and accounting for that if I need Tonics and the like. That could potentially help alleviate the accuracy issues when depending on Corrin's dual strikes while also giving better pair up bonuses and forwarding that chain. If it doesn't work, THEN I would consider making a sacrifice at the grand strategy level for a map or tactical level advantage. I'm sure you consider all this already and (making an assumption here) if you were trying to S Rank Charlotte and Xander together the likely next move would be to have Charlotte hitch a ride with Xander and deploy them to the next hotspot on the map. I just wanted to mention to the people reading comments looking for inspiration that you should also consider the end goals of your run as well when picking your units and combinations. I personally have grand strategy goals as my #1 priority but the big point is to have an idea at every level. Thank you for the vid, this was a great surprise one!

Thank you, this is really helpful. I usually restart a lot when playing FE, but I don't always fix my strategy in an adequate way, instead relying on lucky dodges or crits. The way you show yourself iterating on strategies over multiple runs in a productive way is really informative.

Holy catfish, this man’s brain is even bigger than we thought it was. On a similar long-term strategy note, yesterday, I completed a CQ hard run (I know, I’m a fake gamer) in which I decided that I wanted to get the best possible Kana I could. I went about this by having Corrin (magic boon, luck bane, dragon talent) marry Felicia and grabbing Kana (with Sol, sorry Bozu…) right before chapter ten, in the hopes that she could reach the 30 physical/14 speed benchmarks and get a ton of XP. Unfortunately, her offense wasn’t *quite* good enough, and her bulk was too shaky to rely on attack stance without a ridiculous amount of Sol luck, so I scrapped the idea and just had her hunt sky knights with Niles’s dual strikes. I figured so much availability would be a significant point in her favor, and I sent her into wyvern rider the instant the level two staff store opened up, but I badly underestimated how pathetic Felicia’s stat modifiers would be. In the end, her growths basically just didn’t turn out the way I hoped, and I wound up with a good but not great Malig Knight who relied on a Lightning tome and stealing Elise’s bolt axe to be effective. How would you (the general you, for the record) have gone about a similar challenge? I’m extremely curious what mother (heck, or father) and class path an actually decent CQ player would have gone with, and what the philosophy would have been while approaching it.

The "best possible" Kana I'd recruit later in the game. Corrin's ability to hop between different classes with Friendship Seals means you can access a number of powerful skills. A fairly easy one would be male Corrin with an A support with Silas reclassing for a bit into Cavalier to pass down Elbow Room. I've done Vantage+Life and Death + Swordfaire Kana as a Levin Sword-wielding Nohr Prince. It does work really well lategame, but you'd need to feed Kana Spirit Dusts if their other parent doesn't give much magic.
@brunaolinto560
@brunaolinto560 2 года назад
I think that the best course of action with Kana is to take advantage of Corrin’s unique abilities to gain a lot of classes via Friendship Seals and try to pass a skill Kana would have a hard time getting. For example, a non-Dragon talent F!Corrin could pass Trample from the Camilla & Corrin friendship, something that would otherwise require Kana to S-Rank Percy. I think having a Mage Talent +Mag Corrin marrying Odin could make a really strong Kana, because she’d have both the Mage and Samurai class trees for Swordfaire/Life and Death/Malefic Aura combos. Since Mage Talent Corrin gives Odin access to Onmyoji, he can pass Tomefaire to have a Kana with two -faires, which is great for facing groups of enemies with Breaker skills. He also gives good magic, making the Levin Sword and the Dragonstone hit harder. With something like Trample or Elbow Room from her mom, this Kana will do a LOT of magical damage.
@jonathanlgill
@jonathanlgill 2 года назад
@@brunaolinto560 Double -faire sounds excessive, though, especially for two weapons that occupy the same spot on Weapon Triangle. How many Tomebreaker/Swordbreaker enemies do you encounter in the game? That's an incredibly niche scenario. I'd choose either a Levin Sword build (probably better) or a tome build, but not both. Odin can pass down Mag+2 or one of the Master of Arms skills.

@theleftfootedsultan 2 года назад
@@jonathanlgill Huh. I was under the impression that Corrin wasn’t allowed to A+, or at least that it was severely limited, but I guess I was completely insane. Thank you; you’ve given me some wild build ideas if I ever decide to try that again.
@jonathanlgill
@jonathanlgill 2 года назад
@@theleftfootedsultan Corrin has unique mechanics with Friendship Seals: he can friendship seal into the classline of any same-sex character he has an A-support with. But the other character CANNOT have Corrin as their A+ support. So because of this, you don't technically need to run the wyvern talent (still a great option of course) or cavalier or whatever, since Corrin can start building supports with the early/mid-game characters that join in those classes (male Corrin would need Percy to friendship into Wyvern).

If I recall correctly, most of Zoran’s demonstrations featuring Charlotte have her being early promoted (13-15) so he can get a faster Rally Strength. In my opinion, it’s a good idea for her most of the times, since it improves her combat a bit and lets her pass Rally Strength or even Axefaire to her kids much earlier than a 20/something Charlotte. I tried WL Charlotte!Siegbert with Axefaire (recruited right before chapter 22) and it was fun!

Would you be willing to answer a support question, by chance? I’ve tried researching how they work on my own, but the wikia has just too little info, or it’s not very well explained tbh. Two units need 3 “points” to gain C support, but the wikia says supporting in an attack stance gives +3/+6 vaguely described points (defined as VD to not confuse); you definitely need more than one battle to get a C support, further compounding the confusion given you’re getting like 6 vague points. Just how many “VD” points do you get to get a Support point?
