I think the reason why you really love the blazer and find it flattering is the shoulder pads - they are very good at balancing all figure types and seem to be particularly good for ladies with a large bust. Probably because they put a nice, definite line across the shoulders, taking attention away from all below. It only takes a small pad to make a lot of difference! I also particularly liked on you the tops with waist shaping, worn out, so they gave your upper body more length. I do enjoy your channel and thank you for all the work you put it.
Excellent! Thanks for helping me find my style. This is just what I've been searching for. Something to help me weed through the "noise" of my closet - and all my prints -- and find what flatters me.
Whitney you are just PHENOMENAL! This is exactly what I needed and the direction I'm taking my me made wardrobe from now on. Game Changer! You hit the nail on the head with so many topics BRAVO👏👏I like many see all the lovely makes on Insta and think I should make them all. Lol. I'm reigning in my wants to needs and simplifying. My closet space isn't very large and I'm a stay at home wife/ empty nester . Finally figuring out my style sense, Natural and creating a capsule wardrobe. Yay! Your videos have GREATLY helped me with my sewing journey. Can only sing praises of you❤ THANK YOU for all you do❤
love the info, great work. i took the Kibbe test several times, even slightly changing a couple answers because I wasn't sure about the answer. All the tests said that I'm a gamine and my coloring is a dark Autumn. I find that, despite being a gamine, I love a "modern" hippie style in the summer, but I live in the deep south and it's hot here most of the year. During the colder months I'm fine with the normal gamine styles since I own many of those types of pieces anyway. I just also been doing the modules from Christie Ressel's video and I'm almost done with my sewing for both winter and the rest of the year. Thank you for helping me finally get my wardrobe together.
I really liked your suggestion to take pictures of outfits we like. You can upload them to Pinterest, and keep that board private’s where no one but you sees it. Then you don’t have to hunt through the photos on your phone for reference. I have a couple of private boards which are my go to boards for reminders.
Good video Whitney! I get what your saying -According to my body type I “should” like tops and sheath dresses belted, but I don’t feel comfortable in that style. If they fit correctly, I think wrap top/ dresses are universal for flattering.
Thank you so much for your link to Aly Art to work out your body silhouette. I didn't understand before. I'm intrigued and it's really interesting. I also have struggled to get your module concept but your video's are helping. Definitely a good way to have a coordinated, practical wardrobe.
Which one is that gorgeous wrap top that you are modeling in the first snip video? I absolutely love how it looks on you...I am top heavy too but that wrap blouse is very flattering!
Thank you for this video! Joey Sewy on YT recommended your channel, &I’m enjoying it & learning so much. I’m a beginner sexist & have quite a few wearable muslins & have finally made a faux wrap dress that I love. The part I’ve been missing is getting organized ....I’ve been buying fabric & patterns without a plan. You’re videos are helping me be more purposeful & thoughtful. Thanks!!
I am inspired! It's the day after Christmas and I am going to go through my closet with an eye on silhouettes as well as clearing out some things I don't actually wear. Thanks! And hi Gidget
Oh I am so so so looking forward to this! I checked out doctorTdesigns to try and decide my kibbe. I think I’m a soft gamine and that may explain why I struggle with casual styles but love them on others. Also completely agree about the photos. I took some for MMM this year and was shocked by a skirt I thought I really liked. Also I tend to wear skinny jeans with tighter jersey tops such as the Agnes by Tilly & the buttons. Reviewing photos I’ve realised it may look more balanced with a nenuphar jacket by deer and doe to add some volume/softness......but that goes against my kibbe.......grh!!
Dr. T Designs has a great series on sewing your Kibbe! Remember that these are just guidelines so if there is a silhouette that you really love on yourself, then wear it! The body types are great for a starting point, but we are all so different they could never encompass us all. Wear what you feel great in and I’m so glad you’re finding picture taking as helpful as I did!
Thanks for this series on module planning and sewing. I so need this because of my “ooh, squirrel” mentality to sewing. Plan, plan, sew, sew - ooh, new pattern -sew , sew - ooh, pretty new fabric. Other recommended wardrobe planning methods have failed me because of larger commitment feeling, so 7 piece module seems doable. Question -what do you do with all the other pieces in closet that dont work with module? Do you recommend Konmarie-ing first. I am afraid i will dilute modules fast out of guilt- not that i have huge wardrobe but will feel strangely bad looking at unworn stuff. Also, your comment for MMM resonated with me, that you liked getting dressed everyday in outfits and that it affected emotion and mind for day. Although i start the day in UnderArmor, i could change before facing day - not lazy in other parts of life, but the habit of dressing for the day is a good one I need to cultivate. Love your channel! Thanks!
I love this! As far as other items in your closet, I always do a “clean out” every year just so my closet isn’t cluttered with things I don’t wear. However, if you have stuff you love, then definitely keep it! You can either plan a module around it or keep it for a possible future module. Again, my closet is full of different modules so everything doesn’t necessarily go with everything else. I think it’s just important to have options for each piece instead of having a top with no bottoms, etc.
Wrap tops: I have a larger bust (D-DD I’m 5’6”) but I do not look good in wrap tops, but then again, even when my bust was smaller (B) i still didn’t look good in wrap tops/dresses. I think it comes down to shoulders; I have narrow shoulders that are not wider than my hips. I was a pear but after menopause I became a tube. Centered deep V/splits work better for me. The wrap top does look nice on you, it doesn’t emphasize your bust.
Yes! This is great. Even though we have large busts in common, other factors can definitely play into why you love or hate a certain silhouette. That’s why I don’t put too much stock into the “rules.”
I am small and small bones with a big bust. I look a lot like Mrs. Clause. Deffinantly the grandmother type. This is fine since I'm in that stage in life.
Do you know of any sewing pattern for making shorts that doesn’t have a wide leg? My legs are on the thin side and I want to make shorts with a fly front and slash pockets. Or if anyone else wants to let me know, I would appreciate it. Great video and explanation for a capsule wardrobe. I am definitely going to give it a try! Thank you.
Take a look at the Alina Design Co Chitown Chinos. She has two expansion packs and one is a Bermuda short that’s a fitted leg. You could very easily shorten that to whatever length you’d prefer but still have the skinnier leg.
