THANKS FOR WATCHING!
Bike riding on Connecticut roads presents a safety challenge. As a former road cyclist (roadie) who has transitioned to add in bike touring, I am exploring the bike trails of Connecticut and this video is the first of two short day-rides on the Air Line Trail State Park. During these two rides, I am exploring the eastern most portion of the trail that will be new to me… about 30 miles. This video is Part 1 where I ride a total of about 28 miles round trip from Hampton to Pomphret, Connecticut… searching out camp sites and just getting to know the trail and looking at potential supply sites along the way. In the upcoming Part 2 I will introduce you to a State Park campground and then move to the eastern end of the trail at the Connecticut border with Rhode Island.
While I mention in the video about riding the entire state of Connecticut from east to west… Rhode Island to Connecticut I am rethinking that plan. I am now looking at riding the Air Line Trail from east to west, connecting up with the Farmington Heritage Canal Trail, and riding it north into Granby, Connecticut. I will then do a long loop through northern Connecticut on quiet country roads and get back to my starting point on the trail.
My planned short six day bike tour in Connecticut will be a training ride for my tour in Quebec later this summer. While this Connecticut loop is not mapped out just yet, my goal is to ride somewhere above 500 total miles with a mix of wild camping, motels, and formal campgrounds. And, although this is my home state, there will be many areas on this short bike tour I have never visited… looking forward to sharing it with you.
