I don't think she went to jail. He had a smile on his face, and the drugstore man would have remembered him purchasing the rat poison. Clearly a suicide, but she had a worse fate coming to her. I don't like the ending. I wish he had run away from home to Bora Bora, found a lovely island girl who thinks the world of him, opened a prosperous bar that serves those drinks with little umbrellas, and lived happily ever after.
