I have been spraying both Primo Maxx and then TNEX for more than 30 years and still found your video very informative and extremely professional. I have been the Golf Course Superintendent at a 36 hole facility in Arizona for the last 26 years and will be showing this video to my 3 Assistant Superintendents and other key staff members this week. Thank You
Thanks Somath! Definitely let me know how the application and results work out for you. Super happy that you found the content useful. Encourages me to keep making more. 😎👍
I have the exact same sprayer. Love them. Thanks for sharing. I too live in Ga and have used PGRs in the past when i had Bermuda grass. However, i now have Zoysia and am looking into PGRs once again. The only thing i have to add that will help you in mixing your product is as follows: Don't fill your sprayer container to the full 3 and or 4 gallon mark before adding your product. Only put about 1.5 gallons (or 2) of water in and then add the product. It makes the agitation/ mixing process more efficient. Then you finish adding the remainder of water. (3 to 4 gallon mark)
Great tip Chad.Usually I only fill the spreader half way before adding product. I just filled it up near full to make filming the video easier. I figured you guys didn't want to watch me feel the spreader for the better part of a minute. 😁I should have added some commentary saying that filling halfway is ideal for better mixing. Thanks for pointing it out. Great comment. 😎👍
I know this is an older one, but it is exactly what I was looking for. Going w my 1st application of TNex within a week and researching all aspects. Thx Ron!
Glad it's an oldie but goodie Bermuda Brian. Thanks for watching. There's another one here that's also specific to T-Nex: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-cbFqXziTcVo.html and more recently: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--DtiIYS4mv4.html Thanks for watching man. Appreciate the support.
Love your series together! I fired my lawn service after watching your series of fixing the Alex's lawn. Start applying my own based on your shows. Thanks Ron. Thanks Alex for allowing Ron to document the journey. Lastly I'm currently using Lawn Therapy App to document my application and help me with my application rates. Do you have an app that you would recommend?
@@dfin9246 I'm glad to see that you've taken back your lawn and can see the frustration when you pay for a service and don't seem to be getting the results you're seeking. It's great to know that our series has helped others such as yourself. As far as a program tracking app, I used Yard Mastery simply bc I used their products in the past. But, can honestly say that even I don't keep up with it.
I was just about to ask if I needed to water class B in and you just answered. Very very professional and helpful! I like the funny guys but they definitely do not have the level of information you provided in this video. Thank you so much!
Great job with the detailed explanations. I've been wondering about these but thought they were only for July/August use when it gets real hot. Thanks!
Thanks Zman. Yep. You can use them really anytime you want to slow the growth of the lawn. Ideally you want to wait until it's pretty much filled in from dormancy since PGR will slow down that process. Once the yard is established, you're good to put it down. Glad that you found it useful! 👍😎
You can get Primo for $45 and it's enough for 16,000 square feet of Bermuda. In your previous message, I provided an option for Celsius. golfcourselawn.store/collections/lawn-weed-killers
Hey Ron I do appreciate these videos and thanks. I'm fixing to put down t-nex anytime now for the first time but I do got a couple of beginners questions. 1. Did you full your sprayer with water first to see how much it will take to cover your lawn? 2. How long after cutting did you apply?
Great question Robert. Fill your sprayer half way with water, add the T-NEX and then fill it up the rest of the way with water. This will help ensure good mixing. Once applied, wait 2 - 3 days before mowing. At that point you're good to go. Be sure to let me know how it works out for you! 😎👍
Great video you have an amazing yard unfortunately my yard does not look like that looking for a product that would make the grass grow slower I end up spending all my weekends mowing grass The question I have is I do not know what kind of grass I have and it also has lots of weeds clover and all kinds of other things Will this product still work thanks
Hi Octagon Garage. Primo Maxx will work on pretty much every warm and cool season grass type. The label has application rates for them. Can learn more here: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz
Great content Ron, I've been cutting my lawn 3 days per week and getting tired, so I seek out you education on this matter. I just order a gallon of T-Nex. Would recommend using a surfactant with the product; I'm also considering mixing some liquid iron with it. What are your thoughts. Thanks as always for your help.
Hi Rayon. You don't need a surfactant with T-Nex. It already contains one. Check out this recent video that explains how much to use and what I mix with it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--DtiIYS4mv4.html Appreciate you watching. 🙏😎
Also I've noticed that Podium lowers the tank mix Ph to around 4-5 which turf seems to love. Would like to hear your thoughts on adjusting the Ph of solutions applied to the lawn vs. straight tap water. Thanks again.
I've never really considered that Really BadAim. I've always just used tap water. Any pH adjustments from a backpack sprayer would be likely be very temporary because in most cases, you're only applying 1 - 1.5 gallons or so per 1000 square feet. Not enough make a big difference in soil pH.
Great video, Ron. So I'm assuming that youll empty your backpack sprayer of 4 gallons over that 1000 sq ft area, then repeat for the rest of your lawn at the same rate?
@@RonHenry Ah ok. So you'll end up putting 1.52 oz of T-Nex in that 4 gallons of water for your entire 4,000 sq ft? I recently bought a new sprayer (Typhoon 3 from Flowzone) and I'm figuring out the flow rate to empty that tank over my 5000 sq ft front yard. Wish me luck! Thanks again for your helpful videos!
Very cool video, haha, I'm trying to compare aneuw and t nex. Both are for cool and warm. But apparently aneuw helps with getting rid of poa. What class would Anuew be? Thanks Ron!
Nice Cedymac. It definitely helps out with reducing mowing frequency and has all the other benefits I spoke about in the video. PGR is awesome stuff. 👍
Thanks Ron for getting this video out and answering many questions for all of us first time users. You mentioned about mixing other products and I was curious does this apply for either classes of PGR? Thanks!
Hi Matt. I've only ever mixed the Class A and B PGRs. You can probably also mix the Class Fs (natural growth regulators like Humic acid and seaweed extract) with a class A or B without issue. Glad that you found the content useful. Sorry that it ended up being a bit on the long side. 😂 😎
First question - I just bought T-Nex, haven't applied yet. How should I time application along with fertilizer and iron application, humic/fulvic acid, etc? Second question - label recommends either mowing 4 hours after applying or applying 1 hour after mowing - which is better?
Ron, love the videos. I have a zoysia lawn and have used T-Nex with great results. Can you use both Tide Paclo and T-Nex within a few weeks of each other for longer lasting results?
Hi John. Yes you can. That's exactly what I do. The result is the my lawn never really comes out of regulation from late spring until fall. I apply Tide Paclo every 8 weeks and T-Nex every 4.
Hi Falain. Only enough to wash it down a bit. I run the sprinklers for 10 minutes per zone after application. Let me know how your application works out! 😎👍
Hi Ron! I started using PGR in July this year. We basically have same the same weather pattern and condition because I live in Greenville, SC. What month/date do you normally start using PGR? When is your last application? I have Bermuda grass as well.
I normally start in May and continue through September. Maaaaaaybe October if temps are still high and the grass is growing aggressively. I apply at the beginning of the month.
when it comes to cool season grasses like tall type fescue is it better to use foiliar or pgr's that do root uptake? Also does root uptake like paclo minimize chances of tip burn?
Foliar PGR. You’ll want to go with Primo. Tide Paclo isn’t labeled for use on residential lawns anymore. golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz
@@RonHenry Not on the turf. AAMOF, most all of the PGR apps were on ornamentals at WDW. We applied post-pruning PGR's to the Dixie Cups in front of the Contemporary Hotel, some eleagnus hedges at the Studio and some other woodies such as jasmine and some of the topiaries around the property.
Just heard about these treatments for the first time a few days ago. Is there any concern with toxicity? I see in the video PPE is recommended during the application, but is it safe for pets and kids after it dries?
Hi Ross. Yep. Once dry it's fine for kids and pets to re-enter the lawn. You can get Primo Maxx here: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz
Great video Ron, I've been told that pre-emergents dont hold well on slopes and since your lawn in on a steep slope I figured i should ask you, have u had any problem of the sort with your pre-emergents washing away and what did you do?
Hi Samuel, pre-emergents work ok on slopes as long as you apply them at the right time. Ideally you don't want to apply them when you're expecting heavy rain within 24 hours of application. The pre-emergent that I like for home use that's also reasonable priced is from Spectracide. This is the product I've had good success with: amzn.to/2LZNxdY You want to apply it when the grass is wet but when you there's little to no rain in the forecast for 24 hours. Ideally in the morning when the lawn is wet from dew. 😎👍
Definitely an option but you still have to be careful to minimize run off. Minimizing application when heavy rain is in the forecast is pretty important for keeping it where you want on the turf. Great points!
Hey Ron, would you start a growth regulation system (T Nex) this late in the season? I am cutting at 1" now. I was thinking you are supposed to let the grass grow a little taller this late in the season. Would you go lower than an inch in September? Thanks so much for your advice!
Hi Will. Sure. I just recently applied T-Nex. I apply it as long as the grass is actively growing and the lawn is filled in, I'm using PGR to minimize mowing and to improve color. I haven't changed my height of cut all season really. I'll post a picture tomorrow showing how the lawn looks this time of year at .62" height of cut.
I used lawnguru to measure my lawn and then put 2 oz in 4 gallon backpack ryobi sprayer and used a wide tip to spray 6000 sq ft of tall fescue which is only 0.33oz/1000ft2. Instructions calls for 1oz/1000. So next time I will use 6 oz/4gal to get correct ratio. Is there any easy way to measure what it should of been or is trial and error the best way?
I typically spray 4 gallons over 4000 feet vs. 6000 square feet. That dilution rate ensures there's enough water/primo mix to cover the area. To measure, I use the measuring cup built into the primo bottle: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz Also don't recommend applying at the full rate once per month. Here's a short post that covers how I do it: golfcourselawn.store/blogs/diy-lawn-care/how-plant-growth-regulation-can-make-your-lawn-thicker-and-greener
Enjoyed the content. Do you know if product labels are always assuming you measure by weight and not volume? You referenced this in your video and I’m assuming it’s always best to measure ounces by weight?
Hi Ortho Doc. I measure by weight because many of the measuring cups I use are for different products. So "1 ounce" on the measuring cup isn't truly 1 ounce. If you used a traditional measuring cup, you'd be fine. I just go through the step of weighing and marking the cup so that I know the amount of product I'm putting down is accurate for the utensil I'm using. Make sense?
Makes perfect sense. Thank you. Keep up the great content. I follow all of the RU-vidrs and your channel IMO is one of the best for home owners due to the conciseness and content.
Thanks so much Ortho Doc. I really appreciate that. Glad that I'm able to set myself apart in a way that provides value to you guys. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
Hello greetings from Brazil, well I want to ask something, but I think you would not know how to answer, more I will ask anyway, the growth regulator chlormequat chloride also works in Bermuda grass? If you could answer I would be very grateful.
I've not heard of that growth regulator being used on Bermudagrass Joseph. I would check the label for the product you're considering to see if there's guidance for use on turfgrass.
Thank you very much Ronhenry, I will research more about this product, because let's say that Trinexapac-ethyl is not cheap! Thank you very much for your attention has a good afternoon
@@RonHenry ah gotcha. I came across someone talking about it today so had me wondering why not use the product that last longer. Great video as always. Thank you!
Good video Ron, question have you ever used Site One Ethephon #2 Plant Growth Regulator (PGR) 2.5 gal. (5020396). Is it for cool or warm season grass and can you use it on residential it a great price for a pgr. Thanks
Ron, was wondering how often I should be applying my Tide P pgr. I put it down 2 weeks ago and I understand it controls growth for up to 8 weeks. Should I reapply after 4 weeks or 5 weeks?
Hi Falian. Tide Paclo has an efficacy of 6 - 8 weeks. I'd reapply it 6 weeks after the day you applied it. Figure that way the grass really shouldn't come out of regulation too much. Your second application at 6 weeks should help prevent the lawn from taking off. I wouldn't reapply earlier than 5 weeks at the absolute earliest; and that's only if you've gotten a lot of rain during this period. Hope this helps. 😎👍
Question....I purchased a micronutrient with iron to add to my 2nd application of TNex.... but noticed they recommend it being watered in vs the tnex needing to dry on the lawn for at least 4 hrs..... how would you tackle this?
I’m in the center of the US and have fine fescue. Just this last week I’ve considered a PGR. My main issue is next to a neighbor’s fence but I also want to use it around my mailbox, lightpost, and metal landscape edging. I really don’t think I need to do the whole lawn. The price is scaring me off
Hi Sheila. T-Nex goes for around $150 per bottle. That bottle will last a really long time. Alternatively you can see if there's someone local that has some that they'll sell to you. Thanks for watching.
@@RonHenry My favorite “do my own” chemical site sells a more affordable product called Edgeless Turf Grass Regulator. It’s about half the price of TNex. I see there is also half the main ingredient. I may give the lower prices item a try
Ron, I applied some liquid iron and tide paclo 5 days ago. 3 days after application and my lawn is no longer the greenest in the block, the green has dropped drastically. I am nervous. Wondering if you have experienced that before.
Did you apply T-Nex or Tide Paclo Falain. T-Nex does cause a little bit of temporary yellowing. It should go away and return to green the next time you mow your lawn. Yellowing with T-Nex is fairly common though liquid fertilizer usually help reduce the effect. Let me know if I can help with anything else.
3 - 4 hours but realistically there's no need to use both of then. Tide Paclo isn't rated for residential lawns anymore. They pulled their request to have it certified for residential use. Just stick with T-Nex.
Nope. No surfactant needed. For best result use a foliar spray tip though. The product description here contains a link to the tip you need: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz Hope this helps.
With T-Nex I'd say no. Surfactant helps with getting products like fertilizer and Class B PGRs like Tide Paclo get into the soil better. Because with T-Nex you want the product drying on the leaf, you wouldn't need to use surfactant. Probably wouldn't hurt, but there's really no point since the product is designed to work on the plant itself instead of the soil. Make sense?
Hey Ryan will T next Work for plants my neighbors wild Rose is constantly growing over my fence I keep pruning it I don’t wanna kill it on her but I would like it to start growing on my side
Hi Rob. I've never tried it on wild rose. I do spray it on shrubs and other ornamentals with good success. I'd suggest going at a low rate the first time just to be safe. You can get a small 4 oz container of plant growth regulator here: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz Should be more than enough for what your'e going to be doing.
@@RonHenry Thanks Ron please excuse the typo I called you Ryan I’m gonna give it a try I’ll let you know how it works I bought a gallon of the t nex And I’m gonna spray my blue grass and I’ll hit that when I’m done
Hi Elder. It looks like it's designed to be applied only on edging areas of lawns. The label doesn't specify rates for application over an entire lawn. I would stick with T-Nex or Primo Maxx as a PGR for your entire lawn. Thanks for chiming in sir.
Glad you enjoyed it Sean! I figured why not make a comprehensive video on PGR that covers pretty much everything a home owner would want to know about the product and then some. There are plenty "I applied PGR and my grass stopped growing videos" out there. I wanted to try something different. Granted it came out a bit on the long side. 😎
Yes you can Eric. Yes the application rate for St. Augustine. Can get Primo Maxx here: golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz
Hi Danny, PGR will slow rapid growth of your lawn so I'd probably not treat the area with dog urine. For those spots, I'd flush the area with a lot of water to help disperse the urine in that area. PGR helps the lawn get thicker due to greater leaf density but that doesn't mean that grass is going to spread as quickly. Let me know if there's anything else I can help with. 😎👍
Fingers crossed! After you applied the TNex, did you encounter any slight yellowing of the turf a few days later? It's a common side effect so wondered if you came across it.
@@RonHenry Yeah, it gets sort of a bronzing effect every time I apply. I didn't have any liquid nitrogen or even regular granular fert to put down to help with this, which is why I'm really hoping for some rain haha
I hear you there. I recently applied TNEX as well along with another product and so far not really getting any bronzing. This is the first time I’ve not had that issue. Will put out a video here soon.
I have Troy. It works really well on them. The application rates are slightly different so be sure to read the label. Does a great job of reducing how often you need to trim the shrubs.
@@RonHenry Hi Ron, I have tifftuf bermuda grass. On the t-nex label , there is no application specification for that type. any help would be appreciated.
Hi DRMC. For Tifftuf, I would go with .25 ounces per 1000 square feet. It's on the lower end of the application rates. It will still be effective. You won't damage your turf at that application rate. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Sorry for the delayed response. If you have any other questions, feel free to email me. ron@ron-henry.com 😎
I've never used Primo on paspalum mowed at green height so can't say for sure Jeff. In general, PGRs do encourage lateral growth in turf. The one I use is primo maxx. golfcourselawn.store/products/primo-maxx-plant-growth-regulator-4-oz
Muito obrigado. Eu realmente aprecio você assistir o conteúdo no Brasil. Meu português não é muito bom, mas posso usar o Google Translate para ajudar. :-)
Hi Orangeokie7. Nope. You can't apply either of these with a hose end sprayer. The application needs to be very precise. If you'd like to see how much T-Nex going into 4 gallons of water, check out this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--DtiIYS4mv4.html Thanks for watching the content.
@@RonHenry Hey Ron, I've got a hose end sprayer that configures down to either tablespoons and even teaspoon mix rates. Would that work? Understanding maybe add blue dye or something to help over spray/double spray. It is a Gilmour
I've never used it so can't really say. Plus it appears to be a bit more expensive than T-Nex / Primo Maxx so I'm not sure if it would make sense for most people.
You know, I haven't said anything about plant growth regulator on you tube, but this comes up, where it doesn't seem like algorithms putting this trash up here, where if I wanted to see plant growth regulator, I'd look it up. But I didn't.
While an expensive endeavor ‘too much for my broke butt’, some combine the two to obtain a looooonger regulation period. Not financially feasible for my 3k portion of my lawn I’d use it on....but Ron’s....hmmmmmmmm
I totally hear you Frankie. Unless you have a big lawn it economically doesn't make a ton of sense. The best route is to probably get to better with several friends to split the cost. A bottle of T-NEX or Tide Paclo goes a long way so you can really reduce the per-application cost by splitting it with friends.😎
Ron Henry it’s in the members area. Sales, trades, group buys, etc..., Ive gotten many pro items there that normally are large quantities and split or saved on costs thelawnforum.com/viewforum.php?f=14.
