A detailed look at characteristics of Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea). These images and narrative can help to accurately identify the plant during different seasons of the year.
Other names and characteristics would be helpful. Namely that it's an invasive member of the mint family introduced to the US (I beleive by early settlers). It's AKA Creeping Charlie, Catsfoot, etc. Although used for herbal remedies, it can be toxic to some animals.
Why do you want to get rid of it? Everything that comes naturally, that we don't have to pay for, is suddenly a "weed" that we have to get rid of? If you had to buy this at a garden center, or nursery, you would want it in your garden. Grass is the worst thing you can grow when it comes to environmental damage. It requires more water that any other plant, tree or shrub, and the fertilizer and weed killers people pour onto their lawns, pollutes streams, rivers, lakes and kills fish. If you really are an environmentalist, you would be happy to have wild flowers growing in your yard, instead of manically trying to control every last thing that grows there. On top of all of this, wild flowers are pollinators, that help to keep bees alive and healthy. Herbicides and pesticides kill bees, and humans need bees, to grow fruits and other crops.
