My orange pear tomato returned on its' own this year and is doing great in our 105-plus temps. It was not so sweet last year but this year the flavor is much better.
They must’ve come up from seed left from last year, and those always do so good wonderful. Don’t forget to save some seeds from them later on in the season.❤
I’m curious if your tomatoes are potted or in ground. Full sun all day, or part shade? Mine do a lot of shriveling in full sun at 80-85 degrees. I do have a constant dry wind which is taking a lot from all my veggies. So I’m giving the partial shade in late afternoon.
We had 5 full grown emus for many years. I miss them so much , they were fun to have around. They were never aggressive to us. And two loved to be hugged and have their heads scratched And when it was ridiculously hot showers were loved. They would just collapse to the ground and turn over to get that side soaked!
Those emus are adorable. I would have trouble giving them back but appreciate the room they need. And I love your tolerance with their eating habits. 😂🌵🐾Zoe🐾🌷🐝🐜🐥🐥
They are! And they’re a lot bigger than your finches, lol. If I keep them, I won’t have a garden if they ended up living in my Bird Garden. I think it will be easier to-part with them, because we had them so many years ago. 😊❤️
Here in South Australia I am having so much trouble with Rats. It’s winter here but has been very mild with 17-20oC so my tomatoes and peppers are still producing but the rats are feasting on it all. They have decimated my kale and broccoli plants Grrr. Yesterday I went out and bought tulle and I’m going to wrap them up today. Thank goodness we don’t have squirrels and gophers here as well Robbie 😊
I bought purple tulle at Walmart and love to use it. Thanks for clueing us in … and that was 2 or 3 years ago that I found out about it from your channel ❤
All I’ve been able to think of when those emu chicks ran by the first time was, there go the velociraptors. Wait till they start hunting whatever they want. But of course they’re doing it now. Glad you have experience with what they truly are. Adorable they may be but unpredictable at best as they’re still Wild animals. Certainly wouldn’t want you to experience a well placed kick or bite. So obviously, there’s good reason why you gave yours up 30 years ago. When you’re deciding later, remember my motto, “Never, ever, knowingly put yourself at risk!!!” Although we may think it but sadly, we’re not the youngsters we were. Enjoy while you can and Zoe is safe. Cheers, 💪👩🏻🌾👍💕
Loved your video--My question is, what do I do with over 50 volunteer tomato plants from compost dirt that you showed us how to make LOL? I decided to let them grow and turn most into compost. Love you guys-Happy Gardening!
Those emus are getting really big! I keep reading that it is not good to grow sunflowers in your vegetables.what is your opinion? Love your gardens by the way. I admire what you do and you very much. Thank you for everything that you do
Robbie, I have peacocks....not as big as emus but oh so very destructive to my gardens. I love them though. They are so beautiful, proud, and colorful 🦚 and the babies are precious 💖. I have used a lot of your ideas to protect my plants. YES, in south Texas the best way to garden is with containers. I use mostly totes and barrels cut in half....works great.😊 I find a lot of them in peoples trash where they throw them away. I've also been making solar fountains for my hummers! Thank you, love your videos.
You have some cute and fuzzy buddies in the garden. I love the way they love you and hang out close-by. I have terrible gophers too ! I don't have squirrels or bunnies. I grow in ground, in totes and in Vego beds with no bottom ( yet). Tomatoes are like tanks and can recover for sure with proper care. I have a plethora of cats and every now and then, they get a gopher. Good job Gary !!! , protecting your trees and plants. Wowza, they get to 6' tall ! They are sweet fellows, good job Zoey standing your ground. This is an exciting and fun garden video. They certainly know that you understand birds and are very caring as a mom is.
Love from Berkeley CA. ? My crook neck squash in 18 gal tote, leaves are turning yellow ??? Mind you its coastal weather, . soil has plenty of good compost . the totes are on wooden palletes for drainage.
We looove the Emu’s, my 3yr old daughter saw them on your video this morning and squealed in delight! She asked what they were and i said Emu’s…Now she wants pet Emu’s, so funny. It’s really neat watching them run around:) Flora and Alice
I love emus! Have you seen Cog Hill Farm on RU-vid? They ave a male that they raised and a female that they got later. The male loves them and lets them pet him anytime. I think yours might be a problem for Zoe, and your food garden, when they get much larger.
Here is the issue, I think there’s somewhat of a hybrid, so, you could take some of the seeds from your ripest tomatoes wash them, put them in a strainer. Don’t worry about the gel. I never do let them dry completely. Put them on a paper towel, when they’re completely dry, put them in an envelope with a dry piece of paper towel. Label the envelope when you collected them and what they are and you can grow them next year. But, they may not grow true
Hey Robbie I moved and finally got my garden set up. My cucumbers are starting to peak out the soil within 3 days of planting them. Nothing else staying to grow through the soil. I did buy a few already grown plants from Walmart
Another wonderful video. I watch in the morning with my coffee. You inspire me every day. As for the emus, my thought is let them stay together and go to the neighbor who has more room to run. Just my unsolicited thought. I know you guys will do what’s best for everyone.
Too cute. My brother in law years ago on his mini farm said get rid of the grubs and no more gophers. He did and no more problems. The Emus's are so cute. OI need to go put up a shade in fron t of my little patch of strawberries think to hot by the cinder blocks.
I Love the Enu's following you around.. They are so cute..wish I had some..but I have a family of deer here, about 6 of them, and baby twins..they feel safe here, because no one bothers them, not even Fluffy, my little dog, he just looks at them side by side..❤😮 No I can' t believed it either_ but he doesn't bother them..❤ Love and Hugs Barbie😊
The Emu's are very cute and so funny to watch them take off running. When they get older they sort of stop full out pace running and become calmer. I watch Cog Hill Farm and they have 2 grown Emu's. You mentions the squirrels are worse than the gophers , that is so true. I struggle at my 6th decade of age with them on my deck container garden. Do you have any advice about squirrels.? I did however started using the Tulle you suggested and use your self and so far that is working. So Thank you so much Robbie you saved my gardening soul so far. I'll be able to eat what I grow I am certain.
They are social and want to see Mom and Dad and check out what you're doing. My chickens like to come in and visit. They were raised in the house like puppies! Of course they want to come inside! They are great garden company! Don't you wish they would stay little??!! Don't apologize for having them in the house! They are babies!
The hardware cloth (aka wire) used on chicken coops to keep out predators won't rust out. I put it on the ground of my veggie garden beds then filled with the soil I use. The gophers will sometimes push dirt up thru the wire mesh but they can't chew through it. It's been 4 yrs and the wire looks the same as it did when I laid it down.
Love your commentary on this video. The emus are adorable but it looks like theyre pretty stubborn. Lol Looking forward to an update on the tomato vs emus!
Robbie, perhaps its comes so easy for you to plant cucumbers, I used most of your advice for tomatoes, and it's worked, (except for of course, my climate and soil is not super good for tomatoes) but I am having wayyyy more success than before. If you can help with cucumbers and squash and members of the family it's really nice. I think you grow them successfully with less effort I tried and no matter what I do I cannot succeed. Would look forward to your videos on the circuit family. ❤
Your emus are so adorable it’s like your the mama they follow you everywhere 😂❤ I tried to grow my tomato in a small pot and I don’t see the growth yet and put them on top of my raised bed, what should I do? It’s getting tall but no big stems or leaves 😔👩🌾 oh I’m doing your tier as well, thanks Robbie Gary and Zoe and emus ♥️♥️♥️ take care
When I first set up my garden the put broken clay pots under each bed. I did it because my mom did it not knowing why. Now I think it was because of burrowing animals. I have moles in my yard now due to construction disturbing the wilder areas in my neighborhood. They leave tunnels and sink holes everywhere but not my beds that have the broken plants.
Please HAVE YOU AND GARRY FORGOTTEN???? Protect Zoe now!!! from your “so adorable“ emu chicks. They’re already bigger than Zoe. They kick out to defend themselves from dingos for goodness sake, heelers at risk soon. Emus are not cute and cuddly, you know they’re dangerous and dumb. They’re instinctual. Everyone should do some Googling or ask Siri to learn for themselves.
