My elderly mom got one of these for a Christmas gift by mail...placed it indoors in indirect light and watered...5 weeks later...3 massive red flowers and another last flower just opening up...really cool plant to brighten up the winter!
My grandpa planted amaryllis indoors every year for the holidays. Red ones, always. Thanks for the reminder and bring back so many fond memories. I am headed to my garden center right now to buy a bulb or two and keep these treasured memories alive throughout the holiday season. Great series idea. Thanks again!
Buy them up when they go on sale after x-mas. I pot them up in one large communal pot, and put them in the sun outside. Water when they need it. The in mid august -zone 5 lay the pot on its side and let the foliage yellow and the chlorophyll feed the bulb. Cut off any dry foliage before you bring them in before the september frost. Then late oct or by nov. 1st . Top dress with a good light potting soil and light water until growth begins . I love saving the orphans that would likewise get tossed. Ive paid as little as 99 cents per bulb. Your videos are excellent.
Loved the video Laura! I'm a huge fan of your channel, it's so inspiring for me. Since I moved into my own home gardening has become my second biggest hobby (after baking). I binge watch your videos all the time and when I see you've uploaded a new video, I know it's going to be a good day! keep up the good work :-)
For years now I’ve gifted amaryllis for family members at Christmas. This year I bought the ones dipped in wax. You don’t have to do ANYTHING other than watch them grow and bloom. They brighten drab winter days! BTW-I loved the video!
hi! Laura I love your videos.they sooo nice. I love aged look on a terracotta pot.its even amazing when it is surrounded by moss. I would be glad if you could do a video on planting gladiolus. thanking you Sheetal..
How long does the blooms normally lasts? My wife received a bulb for a Christmas present. I prepared it and it bloomed this week with 8 blooms of red and white stripes from 2 stalks. Simply beautiful! So, now I am committed to Amaryllst along with my Cannas. Wow, I need a green house now.
Your videos was very informative Thank you. I’m going to plant some. I live in Northern CA it doesn’t get very cold. Can I put them on my covered patio and not have to replant them each year? Blessings
Hi Laura and Aaron, I just purchased a Red Lion Amaryllis. It can with a pot with no holes and soil disk. Should I punch holes in the pot for drainage? Love your videos❤ Love watching Benjamin growing up and following in your footsteps with your love of gardening. Can't wait for Baby Girl to arrive. Blessings to you and All of your family during this Holiday Season. ❤❤
I hope just one thing . Can you share more video about amaryllis flower ? . I really love this kind of plant , but in my country it is so hard to get one collection about them .
One of my stalks had 6 flowers! I'd post a pic if I could. It was amazing. 💕 so far it has had 2 stalks so i wonder if it's a big or small bulb. Has anyone else experienced 6 on one stalk bloomed together?
Hi thanks for sharing yr great videos but I just wanted to know does it bloom only once even if you live on a tropical island in d Caribbean? Thanks be safe
Interesuje me kada se Amarilis priprema za cvetanje i kada on cveta. Kod nas je zima i on je u kući, da li treba sada da ga presadim i odsečem listove da bi pustio cvet. Hvala puno, veliki pozdrav 😀👍🇲🇪❤️🙋♀️🌹lepa maca 🤗🐈
Laura, love your videos. So when I went to plant some bulbs in water, I looked at your website first, but I didn't find any. Can you help me? Thanks and keep up the videos....please. :)
I have a lot of bulbs, however I need to plant them in a bed that has the black weed preventer plastic down. My question is, will this cause harm to my plants? I have spent hundreds of dollars to buy these huge bulbs and I do not want to kill them! If anyone knows I would appreciate your input!
I have had an amaryllis for 3 years which has rebloomed each year. I never fertilized it, should I do that? If yes, when do I fertilize it? When I am taking it out of dormancy and changing a bit of the top soil? What kind of fertilizer?
Great video - thank you!! Question please -- today is Feb 12 and I planted the bulb on January 12. The leaves have grown to 40 inches but no flower yet!! I've been able to keep them upright using supports. But, they keep growing and they will soon choke me. I'm sure of it. What to do? I wonder if I should cut off or trim off the leaves? Please help me before these lil boogers keep growing and inhale me live.
I planted my amaryllis about a week and a half ago and only watered it the one time when I watered it in. the bloom stalks are about 1 1/2 inches tall already so how often should I be watering them now? and do they ever need fertilizer? if so what type and how often? is bloom booster ok?
