What is the purpose of painting the fruit tree trunks? What are they painted with? Thanks!
@DigPlantWaterRepeat
@DigPlantWaterRepeat 11 месяцев назад
Prevents sunburn. Just plain old latex white paint. It’s a common practice here. 💗

couldn't be colored tree bark color so it doen't stand out????@@DigPlantWaterRepeat
@lauramyers2276
@lauramyers2276 11 месяцев назад
@@nancycyr4553 White is used because it is not harmful to the tree (not tinted a color) and is effective at reflecting sunlight to moderate changes in the temperature of the trunk. Larger branches exposed to direct sunlight may also be painted on the sun ward side to protect them. (I am Southern California zone 10)

There is a trunk paint by IV Organics. Also comes in a brown and has good benefits for the tree.

Once the area around the pomegranate is cleaned up and all the rocks and watering tube are removed or cut down, that will be a lovely little tree in the perfect place in your garden. Hopefully, you will give it a year to prove itself before removing it...

Consider removing the garden stone from the bottom of the pomegranate tree for a cleaner look. I would leave this tree it another year to see if you like it when the garden is more developed.

Beautiful! Two suggestions: Purchase a chipper shredder to get rid of a lot of your tree debris and add to your compost piles. When you put up the rain gutter how about a rain barrel? If you need a rain gutter, you might as well collect the water for your raised beds. There is a solar pump you can put on the rain barrel.

Love when I have days like this, which are fewer and far between unfortunately. Just a tip… I do AR/AP for a manufacturing company and we have a lot of cardboard that gets damaged and we can’t use it. We pay to have it hauled away so we love when people approach us and want to take it. Look for manufacturers in your area that make large products and box them. The larger the products the larger the boxes and they will not have tape on them as they haven’t been used.😊Most of the damages that we discard are mostly cosmetic and compromise the box very little.

Since you are planning on taking out the ring of fruit trees you should go ahead and start on that. I noticed in the backed up shot in the video that the trees are blocking that beautiful view of your espalier! You could start with pulling out the stakes...maybe even just cut the trees down to the ground and not worry about digging out the stumps next spring.

Zone 3 Canadian here. Am enjoying watching your new gardening journey so much. A year ago we had to sell our beautiful 1/2 acre property due to my husbands health. We are now in a townhouse where i have no garden at all and have had to fill my gardening wants and needs with houseplants. Its just not as satisfying so i now live vicariously through my favourite online gardeners. Your channel as well as Robbie's and Laura from Garden Answer have all helped fill the void. Thank you.

Hi Janey! I loved seeing your trip south and all the plants. You have the dream job with Proven Winners! I’m an outdoor plant gal but after seeing that I have to have a couple or so of those indoor plants. You and Robbie get me in so much trouble. Lol Loved the last trip you two went on and all the junk he picks up to add to that garden place. Even noticed old doors on the ceiling. Awesome trip. You’re just having to much fun at your new house and so are we watching all you do. Can’t wait to see all you come up with a d more fun adventures with you and Robbie. Duh .... drip irrigation, and help. So I'll just keep working along doing my best and get help from watching your videos. I ordered ollas to put in my Pinky Winky standard and my weeping spruce. A garden is where God put man at the beginning so it goes without saying it's meant to bring you joy and enthusiasm to work it. So reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one who keeps beautiful plants in their pots patiently awaiting me to catch up with my gardening "to do" list! And when it comes to gardening in the powdery dry soil you're dealing with on your new property, Janey, whatever works buy it! Simply unreal how quickly you've turned your property around and made it your own! Original owners wouldn't recognize it! And, if those metal planters you are using were within the reach of my budget I'd set one up in my patio in a minute for some of my potted plants (I have about 100 various sizes). Also, thrilled that you're going to bat for us with Proven Winners - "us" being Californians - and be sure to include Zone 10-11, pleazzzzz. I feel so excited when I see what Proven Winners offers but then feel so neglected when there rarely are Zone 10-11 in area garden centers.

We moved into our house 2 years ago. Our neighbor has pomegranate trees. I have no experience with them. Wow, what a lot you've gotten done! Really enjoyed the video. I'm rooting for the pomegranate tree and hoping it proves its worth in your landscape. I think the blossom and fruit colors would complement and echo the colors in the plantings behind you at minute 19:12, the oranges, and the new plantings near it in this video. Plus, as you've mentioned, the fruit would be great for projects and eating. The trees you limbed up looks so much better. I didn't know lime trees suckered. I learn so much from your videos. Thanks for sharing.

Just fyi, I’ve also used the roll of brown thick paper from home depot that is in the paint department. The corrugated is a little pricey in comparison, the main thing you want to have is a barrier of cardboard between the compost and grown. Wished I could send a link, but they don’t allow this in the message section. Great job! Hugs, love, and lots of prayers! It’s looking great!

Janey, limbing up and shaping citrus is the name of the game. They are hardy and very forgiving in my experience. So go for it! I might even limb them up higher so you can see more of their trunks. I would definitely keep the pomegranate for now. It appears to be healthy and has a beautiful shape. You have so few taller plants right now, it adds to your space. I really just hate removing mature plants. 🙁

Hi Janey! Wow things really are starting to really take shape. The potting soil near the house can be a mini experiment to see which is better, the compost or the potting soil. I would keep the pomegranate tree, I think it is very cute and will provide a little shade for some of your plants. I really like all your new plants and can't wait to see them take off and fill in. Have you thought of making an area of your garden into a wild pollinator garden. Just scattering seeds and let them do their thing in a natural setting? I have an area where I grow dill, milkweed and various native plants that I just let go free....it's so pretty and allows for extra bees and butterflies to come into your garden. Happy Gardening!

If your pomegranates are good keep that tree. My grandparents farm has pomegranate trees and here in California they are way better than any store bought. People came around for fresh pomegranate juice and jelly. They were so sweet she just squeezed them in a cheese cloth. No sugar or anything else added. They were so good eventually trees were planted across the street which helped since people were always stealing them. But grandma would laugh and say, “ if they want some they could have some just let her know, no need to sneak. “😂

We just build a custom home and I ended up with a huge "garden bed" . I had my landscaper put in grass because it would cost $$$$ to fill that whole area with plants. When you get that gutter in, you should also get a rain barrel set up with it! That would be neat!

Good morning Janey, I'm so glad you got help putting the cardboard and compost. It looks so good. The pink bush is so pretty. I can't wait to see it all in the spring.

You so industrious you will have the garden done in front by next summer ☀️. 😍😺. I been thinking about your chipmunks 🐿. I had some little fellows, but I have 2 outside cats, the chipmunks left. May think about that 🤔

We are a family that generally uses Milwaukee tools. However, in my gardening journey I found, similar to you with Ryobi, the cement drill is better for the larger holes and doesn’t hurt my wrists when hitting roots. Definitely worth the cost.

I am so behind getting my perennials in, and we're past my average first frost date up here - but luckily this year the forecast is still lows in the 40s for the next several weeks, so hopefully it'll be okay - better in the ground then to freeze in the pots (z 6b)... following Laura from GA who always pushes the limits lol. So you're way ahead of me!! Love all of your plant choices and the progress you've made! 😍

One more white pot on the end of the zigzag planter will balance it out. Every time I see it, I think how awesome the flowers look and it looks all planted up, but that one thing throws me off. Everything looks amazing! This video really shows a preview of what the spring will look like. So exciting. I want a power planter so bad!
