Planting Evercolor® Carex in Containers - In this video I plant some Evercolor® Carex from the Southern Living Plant Collection. These make great border plants, container plants, or can be mass planted on a slope. They work best in part-shade or shade in the south, but tolerate full sun in the north. This is a super low maintenance option to brighten a shady space.

These are really great plants to brighten a shady spot. They are rarely harmed by deer, but I have seen damage from rabbits. Thanks for watching.

I absolutely love my Carex Evercolors! I have some in the ground and some in pots. I have noticed the price has gone up a lot in last couple of years since becoming more popular so I will be dividing some this year. One thing I should mention, I had an 8' privacy fence put up in the back this yr due to deer turning my yard into a salad bar. Generally several deer EVERY night. Up to 16 of them at a time. They chew everything they can stand but thus far they have never once chewed my Carex.

I have the perfect spot in my side yard for these. Only about 2 hours of filtered sun daily, damp but not soggy

Jim, have been wanting to share this with you a long time but your RU-vid videos has become my favorite in plants. I really don’t see how you can create such an extensive library of topics that are excellently edited while maintaining what looks to be an extensive plant nursery operation. Wish I lived close enough to shop with you as your videos have me scourging local nurseries for those you show. I search through your vast library before purchasing and when I want to know about a plant I purchased randomly, I again go to your library for information. In fact I have “moved” plants after watching your videos. Again, don’t see how you have time for so much work and keep them coming.

Hi Jim. I have made several plant selections for my beds here in Denver Co. (zone5b) from your videos and in fact planted a cares in my hosta garden as a test for this winter. Love the videos and all the info you give including what zone they grow in. Cheers.

One of my customers wanted six of these removed because she was tired of the deer munching on them. I replanted them at home and they're amazing! They really do brighten up a shady space!really pop against dark mulch and red leaves shrubs.

Are they as tasty to deer as hostas are?

I wish I could buy these here this time of year for my window boxes. The Everest would look so nice combined with some evergreen boughs, holly berries, and pinecones. But we have zero perennials available to purchase now.

Kyra D try “Plants by Mail”, their website has extensive selections, reasonable overnight shipping and competitive prices. I live in a small isolated community and have to depend on their excellent service to find 80% of the plants I purchase. Thy their website, I highly recommend them.

Can I prune them any time of year?

Have you any experience with the Bosnian pine 'Compact Gem'? I'm wondering if it'd survive North GA summers as a corner of the house foundation plant.

I have not personally had my hands on them in the nursery or garden center. Beautiful plant, but likely not tolerant of the heat and humidity in the southeast.
