Purple potatoes are my absolute favorite having fibromyalgia they don’t affect me the same way that white potatoes do. And I bought 3 pounds from a local produce place some of them are definitely starting to 🌱 after being in the fridge for so long so I’m going to get them in the ground thank you for this!

I have grown the purple Viking potatoes just this past spring....Very nice potatoes, I planted 8 seed potatoes in 2, 5 gallon bags. I harvested about 30 potatoes.

Ok so you planted an entire potato. When I plant sed.potstoes, I cut them up so that I have 1-2 potatoe.eyes.on each piece. The prices are usually about 1.5". So a small potatoes can give you 2 or 3 potatoe plants. I never really noticed any difference I harvest from planting a whole potatoe vs just the prices. When you cut them, let them "cure" for a few days to a week so that a skin forms over the cut edges. This prevents rot. Then plant away! I easily get 90% or greater success this way and seed taters are expensive!

In cooking purple potatoes for mashing, do not peel them. Leave then in the skins and once cooled, remove the skins. A trip overnight in the refrigerator blues up potatoes even more. It makes a great mashed potato side dish.

I planted these in NC several months ago. I planted seed potatoes, about 7 sets. I only got maybe 10 very small potatoes out of them. The plants died back, so I harvested them. They were planted in a good coconut coir, peat, perlite and manure mix. What did I do wrong?

How many pounds of potatoes did you get from how many plants? I like growing them but I always forget to check how much o get from my plants. Recently I did a hydroponic growing of purple potato and got 2 pounds of purple potato from one plant, it took around 87 days to fully grow as well.
