Laura, I just want to thank you and Aaron for taking the time to make these videos! It really hit me when you were loading up the cart before this project began; recording with one hand and loading with the other. For some reason, this really brought the realization to me how much faster you could get your work done if you didn't take these videos, but I'm so thankful that you do! I've learned so very much!! I so look forward to your videos and truly thank you, Aaron, and Benjamin too, for all that you do for us! Your family is a true inspiration!

Thank you, Laura, for being an inspiration. Your love for your garden and your passion for beauty makes me want to continue to improve my garden. I love the attitude that you have about the garden. If you do not like something, then pull it out. It is your garden, so make it your own. These words have freed me to remove plants and/or give them new locations. I can plant seeds, divide plants, or add new plants. Why? Because it is my garden...my expression of beauty. I love lavender and will be adding some to my garden. By the way, I enjoyed your visit with your mother to the lavender farm. Thank you again. Keep on romancing the ordinary! Yes!

I've never binge-watched anything in my life until I found your channel. The lavender is beautiful. I know it's the West side of the house, but hope it gets enough sun. You've forgotten more about gardening than I'll ever know so I'm sure it's going to be great, but my Lavender struggles with shade thrown by our Austrian Pines that are at least 20' away. I think our weather on the Front Range in Northern Colorado is almost identical to yours, but I can never get things to grow like you do.
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 3 года назад
Wow her channel is incredible; what a garden and design. You were thinking just what I was thinking! To really thrive lavender needs at least 6-8 hours of direct sun exposure. In your case you might also want to check the ph of the soil. The influence of the pines might also indicate acidic soil. Try top dressing with dolomitic lime in the fall to raise the pH to more alkaline side of 6.5-7. And make sure you have good drainage; lavender hates wet feet! Can you tell I'm passionate about lavender?! Check with your awesome Colorado Lavender Association. 💜

Y'all liberally adding epsom salt to your soil best read this first before you ruin your soil:. www.al.com/living/2015/06/feeding_your_garden_beer_coffe.html In short, the use of epsom salt is an old wives' tale, at best. At worst, it can outright KILL your plants. Do some research first, people. Science, not snake oil.

Try to vary the variety of hydrangea, if you can since they all bloom at different times. This way, you'll have something in bloom from late spring into late summer. By me, it's only like, what ? The third, fourth week of summer and the macrophylla blooms are dwindling downward. (And don't get me started on that "Endless Summer" /false advertising variety).

I LOVE your circle and that URN is so wonderful I put it on my WISH list the day you first posted about it! When you first showed us this I thought YES now that is GOOD garden design as you've a centerpiece, a focal point a 'room' and a 'stop and admire' . I think whenever you've made a bit in a garden room or walkway that pushes the viewer/rambler to not continue forward, you've made that restful moment to stop and well "Smell the flowers" and I ADORE gravel with brick. AND the sound of gravel instantly takes me to England and walking in Country House gardens! You've such an eye for Garden Layout, I adore it. And I like that you used a differing tone in that planter than just the usual grey as that variety also feels quite English to me :) I wish I only had to worry about wind with our Hostas, but I planted up more this year in my shade gardens and the deer found them OF COURSE! and this year, for the first time they have eat up MY Petunias! They've never touched them before, and they are now eating all the blooms off my daylillies, which they also used to never touch. OH well, Gardening in the wood and Sea is a challenge...but a lovely one, so I'll deal :)

They're picky about drainage and do not like too much fertilizer, they don't even really like very good soil. They also do better in fairly alkaline soil. Mine do best planted near concrete or in cinder blocks. ( helps with the alkalinity) Planting them slightly above the soil line helps with drainage.

Thanks so much for the tips! I think we have very acidic soil, perhaps that’s what kills my lavender. I’ll do more research on amending the soil before I plant more lavender:)
@LABYRINTHHILL
@LABYRINTHHILL 3 года назад
@@HappyCats17 You nailed it! You can do a simple soil test for alkalinity. Also adding dolomitic lime in the fall will raise the pH during winter rains.

@@svetlacavaleri7071 if you have access to dolomitic lime, use it in the fall to work into the top of soil around the plants. 💜

Hello! I want to thank you for all of your great videos! I look forward to watching each day you post! I always talk about my friend Laura who doesn’t even know I exists, and have learned so much from you. Thank you for sharing the good (too many things to list), the bad (a split locust tree), and the ugly (worms boring into your plants). You and Aaron keep it real and I have learned so much from you both and have rekindled my love for gardening! One question, can you over treat for chlorosis? I have a plant that I think may be suffering but I haven’t eliminated any other possibilities.

I truly envy you. I love to garden. I’m happiest communing w/the earth & plants. I used to be able to spend hours planting & tending. Not anymore. My husband hates plants & so he allows my hard work from past years to die. I keep a small veggie garden in the backyard which is still too much on bad days. You’re very blessed in many ways. I wish you both longevity & health so that you always have your gardens to bring you joy. May you always recognize your gifts & blessings.

I have to say it was a relief to see you using one tool to do something it wasn't meant for. I use the wrong tools for alot of my gardening all the time. Sometimes the handle of my shears hammer steaks into pots, makes rows for my veggie garden, or even remove worms with the sharp end... you always have all the right tools for everything I just knew I was doing it wrong. Thanks for making me feel better about my garden faux pas

When it's in bloom, sure, but after it's done? Not a fan. It's kind of scrubby looking to me. I don't really see it grown too much here in NJ. I wonder if that's because we get too much rain?

So glad you showed us how that worm worked it's way into the Sunflower. That was interesting, and yes gross. Poor Sunflowers. :( The area does look amazing with the Lavender, and I can't wait to see this same area later. Every day I learn something new, thank you, and I must add that this month has been a year since I have started following you. I watch a video diligently every day on my lunch break, and take notes. I can now name flowers and trees that I never had a clue what they were before. I went from nothing but grass and shrubs, to foliage, roses, plants and blooms. You are a wonderful teacher! So grateful that you popped up on my feed, and I have been hooked ever since. Especially since you are so hands on, and the bonus of having your husband (don't want to spell his name wrong lol) helping you out, that had set an example for my husband who has volunteered to help me with my new flower bed project. Definitely not saying no to that! I am tearing the yard apart, and I love it!!! A TOAST TO PLANTING!!

I so enjoy hearing your glee, "That's so pretty!" I love when you take us along on your projects like this. I could follow you all day. I know placing the camera so we can watch you haul your cart slows you way down. I do appreciate you taking the time to make it more interesting for us. It's as if we're right there with you. I'm sorry you lost those sunflowers. That was a nasty-looking worm. I know your growing season is a bit longer than mine here in Minneapolis, but seeing how many plants you have yet to plant has me concerned for you and them. I'm just putting the finishing touches on a mixed hedge I created this season. I just have to mulch and water in everything. I know nothing in our gardens is ever complete. I'll likely add more hydrangeas and perennials in the future. I heeled in a coralberry several years ago and placed bags of mulch around the can. Well, it appears to have survived and now I have the perfect spot for it. I hope it's not infested with quack grass roots. Ugh! My nemesis. By the way, no apologies necessary for the construction background noise. It's barely discernable to us...until you draw our attention to it. 😊
