Planting No Till Soybeans near Platteville Wisconsin
In this video I am out in a field near Platteville Wisconsin with an International 5488 Tractor pulling a 12 row Case IH 1200 planter. This farm is planting soybeans "no-till" in between the corn rows from the season before.

These were the last of the IH tractors before the merger of Case,IH and Tenneco. They look like very nice tractors. Maybe a little short and stubby, rough riding most likely on plowed ground.

Cool video Mike. Good looking tractor and planter. I noticed a cooler just outside the rear window of the tractor. Is that an oil cooler? Don't remember seeing too many of those set up like that.

Awesome rig, and bout the cornstalks they’ll probably go thru the combine easier than the bean stalks

The 88 series were great looking tractors. I am not a fan of the current crop of Magnums though as far as how they look. @ 3:25 it appears he is off by a row while planting right there?

Those corn stocks look like punji sticks, are they hard on tires, nice video
@farmhandmike
@farmhandmike 3 месяца назад
Corn stalks can be hard on tires especially in the fall right behind the combine. Some guys are now running different rolls in their corn heads to shred the top of the stalk to help it break down quicker. Here in the spring they are not too bad to deal with and as I mentioned come harvest time they will be pretty brittle.

What is the yeald difference between 30inch(75cm) or 15 or any other row space.
@farmhandmike
@farmhandmike 3 месяца назад
It really depends on the area Ive seen both row spacings yield very well. Around home in Ohio most guys have gone to 15'' row spacing for soybeans and in other areas most beans are on 30'' row spacing. I remember as a kid when my grandfather started growing soybeans he planted on 30's and we cultivated them. Then I also remember guys started planting them with a grain drill on 7.5'' row spacing. So I suppose it depends on soil, climate and plants per acre. And a good growing season

Why didnt they work the ground before? After corn, we always plow.

Always till your ground,chances are that farmer is going to have white mold in his beans,it only takes about an hour to till that ground
