Planting onions in the spring. Onions are among the most widespread vegetable crops used for human consumption. It is a biennial plant that forms a head in the first year. In the following year, flowering trees grow from the head, bearing seeds. Onions are grown as annuals, directly from seed, or as biennials, from chives. It is resistant to cold and tolerates a wide range of temperatures. The choice of assortment is very important.
The most common varieties are flat (loaf) and round. A prerequisite for successful onion production is healthy, high-quality, calibrated shallots with a higher content of dry matter. Planting can be manual (flat ground, on beds) or mechanized. Bulbs are produced from chives (winter and spring planting), seeds - direct sowing (most often spring sowing) and seedlings.
Plots for onion production should be without micro depressions. Soil reactions play an important role in onion production. It thrives best on soil with a slightly acidic or neutral reaction, pH 6.0-7.0. It is grown on clean and unweeded plots.
