Planting Out Ranunculus: It’s Time! ⏰

Hi Friends!
It is time for me to plant out my Ranunculus here in my zone 6b. I soaked the corms for a couple of hours ( changing the water every hour). Next, I put them in a water tight potting tray with about an inch of moistened potting soil on the bottom and about two inches of moistened potting soil over them. Then, it was time for them to be in a cool, dark place for about 10 to 14 days so that they could wake up and sprout! I placed mine in my office closet which stays around 65 degrees F and I checked them every day for any signs of mold. After they sprouted, I potted them up and placed them under the grow lights for a couple of days and then I moved them into the greenhouse so they could begin to get acclimated to the outside temperatures.
These will bloom for me from late spring into early summer. Ranunculus do not like the heat of summer so they will begin to die back after blooming. The corms can then be dug and stored for the next year.

Those beautiful little roots are ready to run! I love to see green going into and coming out of the ground!! Spring fever just knocks me out. Not enough space to list everything going on but as my Nanny used to say... I'm running around like a chicken with my head cut off 🤪 as the busiest time of year for us gardeners quickly approaches. Happy growing 💚🌺🐛🦋🐝😅

Hi Bobbi, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I have 30 ranunculus planted in 4 inch pots. They are in my bay window, getting lots of sunshine. They are about 3 inches tall and looking good. I plan to plant them outside this coming week. I may have to cover them a few nights. This is my second year of growing them. Last year I waited till April to plant them out and it took so long for them to start to bloom that it was too hot for them. We got some blooms but not like I was hoping for. This year, I hope for a grand show of beautiful flowers! Thanks again for sharing!

Hello!! Thank you for your valuable information on ranunculus! ... we live in Oregon, on the east side. Specifically, the Columbia Basin. Zone 7a... No snow here. However, below freezing temps at night. So I have not planted anything yet... possibly next week I will purchase some ranunculus and geraniums... In my milk jug greenhouses the little seedings are doing great! Snapdragons, sweet peas, sweet William! Also some native plant seeds!!.. Thank you for your video! Have a wonderful day!

Oh I’ve done that too! Sometimes I get behind on certain things in the garden 🤦🏼‍♀️ You could always soak them and then plant them straight in the garden and see what happens. 🤗

@@GardeningOnTaylorMountain with the amount of rain we have been getting, I could probably just put them in the garden and they would plump up out there lol! It’s been so disgusting out, I haven’t been able to even work on my poor greenhouse project 😭
