Planting Potatoes for High Yield | the Method I Loved

It is incredible how the access to information and new methods can completely transform the ways that we've been following for generations. At times it makes me sad since planting potatoes was a huge family gathering where we would spend the day just sowing, weary in the end but happy to be there together. Now, it takes only a tiny patch of land and a shovel to plant the necessary amount.
But the methods we learn are so time-saving and help a lot in maintaining your health without being worn out and eventually closing your eyes on those enormous plantations that were hard to look after.
Everything is getting better in any way and I'm glad to learn and share everyhting with you.

The potato that your family and you have been growing for years looks a good variety. You could give it a name. I think if you have potatoes and milk you have a diet that you can live off. Will be interesting to see how they grow. Always enjoy your videos. All the best 🇬🇧.

Great that you have a variety of potatoes in your garden this year… it will be nice that you can make so many different dishes and have enough to get you through this growing season… looking forward to seeing the results of your harvest… ! It’s been a very rainy/cloudy Spring here in NY… hoping May will bring more spring like weather… to spend time outside in my small flower and herb garden… mostly in pots. Take care… wishing you good health and weather… stay safe and well… bye 👋 for now. 🌎🕊️. 🌜🌞🌛

Potatoes are a must for anyone with a bit of land. They are almost perfectly designed for small scale production with high yield and nutrition content, like no other crop. They may seem boring but I always dedicated a third of my plot to them. The only issues are the dreaded blight and rotation. As you can imagine dedicating so much area limits the gaps between using the area for potatoes so every three years is very tight. Also they are a pain for the next crop. You always miss digging some up and they become a weed if you live in relatively mild areas where frost does not get down low into the ground. I am fighting them in an onion patch this year as you cannot dig them up when they infest rows.

I was amazed how many she was pulling out the ground there. I think beetroot are another high nutritional density crop.

I absolutely agree with you 😊 As for putting that many of them, I mentioned that I rely on the amount of sprouts as they form a bush. I did this last year and the results from a patch were so cool. The only thing I think I did wrong but we will see is planting them relatively close to the surface

i think when you break the first sprout that the potato developes then it will shoot many more around the tuber. They say its not good to keep seed potatoes year after year because the yield will be reduced, that's why it is recommended to buy certified seed potatoes at least every second year that have been grown from a true seed. wishing you a great potato harvest and greetings from Greece!

Thanks for your Gardening tips, it is a good idea to spread the vegables and places in the garden. How do you protect the patatoes from the wind and the blight and the pests. Let us learn from the Irish Potato famine. Dont put all your patatoes in one place, garden, basket. Good patatoes crops, big Family. No patatoes, no Family. History.. Sha!

Hello Kartsyarina. We have always grown the red variety, like my father did and the red yellow-fleshed mountain potatoes are my favourite ones. But unfortunately I am a little bit late as the weather doesn't help at all; it always rain! Your garden is going to be so beautiful with all these varieties of potatoes in this fantastic place! Hard work, but great harvest! Thank you very much ⚘️💕🌷

Definitely don't remove the sprouts, although they shouldn't be encouraged to grow too long by leaving them in the dark. Best sprout them in trays where it's warm and light. Short thick sprouts are best. Sowing pre sprouted gives a two or three week head start to the crop,

If You really want to have the most accurate result regarding the yield of each variety, You must to use the same amount - kg - of planted patotos from each variety and of course in a soil with the same characteristics, IMAO.
@KatsiarynaTerehova
@KatsiarynaTerehova 4 месяца назад
I know what you mean but my goal is to get more from the same patch, the same size of the patch because the area is limited in my case, and if it means to put more potatoes in one pit, it is cool with me. Maybe later on I will also start calculating the amount of potatoes I put in 🧐
@thehturt5480
@thehturt5480 4 месяца назад
 OK then in this case You have to focus on the soil - to have an abundance of nutrients alongside the method You use to grow potatoes. But of course You know that😊 As always much ☘️🍀to You

Here in Wisconsin, I was always told that sandy soil is good for potatoes. They’re grown commercially in Waupaca County, an area with sandy soil. The most famous potato producing state here is Idaho. They claim their soil is volcanic and is ideal for growing potatoes. I hope you get a bumper crop this year!
