Planting shrubs in clay soil can be challenging, but today we are going to share with you some simple tricks that will ensure that your perennials, shrubs & trees thrive in their new home! Contrary to what a lot of people believe, clay soil is excellent to grow happy plants in (don't believe me? Check out the overhead shots at the end of the video and see how lush our native landscape is!) I also am going to give you a basic tutorial on how I train my David Austin climbing roses on the arch.

I just love your down to earth style! Your videos are keeping me motivated and inspired in a time when I am feeling very discouraged and .... well..... tired. You have such a “teacher’s heart” and I always learn something new from your videos. The end was so peaceful and relaxing to watch. I know it’s a chore to make and edit these videos.... but just know that so many of us LOVE them and that they bring us joy in such troubled times in which we live. God bless you and Jerry ❤️❤️❤️

I just discovered your wonderful channel through the collaboration with Laura from Garden Answer. I've been watching Laura since last winter and needless to say her gardening advice is invaluable! However, I live in southern Ohio and killed off more than a few plants this year due to overwatering our clay soil. I'm so glad to have found you where I can use Laura's advice for zone 6a gardening and your advice for moisture retention and clay soil gardening. Finding your channel makes me feel like Christmas came early!
