Recently, scientists have been developing a new natural technique for cleaning up pollution by letting plants do the work instead. Neil and Beth discuss ‘phytoremediation’ - a natural way of cleaning up chemical pollution and teach you some useful vocabulary.
❓❓❓This week's question
‘Phytoremediation’ is the technique that certain plants use to remove harmful chemicals from polluted environments. But how do they do this? Is it by using:
a) their leaves?
b) their roots? or,
c) their seeds?
Listen to the programme to hear the answer.
Vocabulary:
✔️prestigious - admired and well respected
✔️bring (something) back to life - make something come to life again after being dead; reanimate something that has died
✔️broken promises - promising you will definitely do something but then failing to do what you said you would
✔️chief - ruler of a tribe; most important or highest ranking leader
✔️charisma - special natural ability to attract, influence and inspire people
✔️magic formula - combination of actions that is likely to result in success

Harvard is one of the most prestigious universities in the world. Not only does the chief of this village has an authority, but he also has the charisma which makes him get loved and admired by the people. Officials should take necessary measures to clean the contaminated water and bring the purified water back to life!

Fantastic use of the new vocabulary and great sentences. 😁 One small correction: in your second sentence, you can say - 'Not only does the chief of this village have...'. Can you work out why we say 'have' here instead of 'has'?

Plants really can help to our environment. Plants are one of the important things on Earth. There are many plants in our house. Plants are different but we prefer flowers. Some plants are good for us. Forests are part of plants. The forests give us a lot of oxygen to breath if ia not mistaken. It's good to know. Plants can sace our environment and can make it live much longer. One i want to have some plants. I think they have energy and it gives me a positive energy. Thanks BBC
