Hey guys! This is the second video of this new series that where I talk about plants that THRIVE in LECA + passive hydroponics (or semi hydroponics). I transitioned the majority of my plants into passive hydroponics and through my experience, I have found that Begonias grow very rapidly.

I'm on my fourth Begonia Maculata -- I love it so much and have tried moving it - water measurement but all 4 plants dropped their leaves within a week or two. I am inspired now to try LECA and see if that makes a difference. Your plants are beautiful

Coming here because of constant fungus gnats infestation and thought of moving all my plants into leca. 100% convinced Im doing this right now at this very 1:25am Irish time lol

😱 they r simply gorgeous! I have 2 begonias and 3 on their way. I’m gonna have to put them in LECA! The two I now have are also suffering and I’m not happy about it. 🥺 So glad I came across your channel! I have a Begonia Maculata and Begonia Angel Wing. Putting them both in LECA. What solution did you use for watering them since they are in LECA? 🪴🌱

I have a begonia maculata that has dropped it's leaves. Do you think if I transfered it to leca it would do better? Or should I wait till the leaves come back before I transfer it?

Hi just stumbled upon your channel! Your plants r doing so well in semi hydro, how did you transition your plants from soil to leca?

Hey! I first removed all the soil around the roots. I ran the roots gently under the faucet (not a huge deal if you don't get all the soil off, just most of it). Then I would put it into LECA + self watering pot with 1/3 of the recommended use of nutrients. Then I make sure it's in a warm, sunny place (or under a grow light).

Great video! Question, when you get new plants do you usually put them straight to leca? Or do you acclimate them first? I’m getting a maculata in a week

Thanks! What I usually do is that I leave them for 1-2 weeks so they can adjust to my environment just because my environment runs on the cooler end. I have however transferred plants a day after getting them but I only do this with a few plants (syngoniums and alocasias)

do you provide extra humidity for your begonias along with the passive hydro?

The humidity sits at around 55-65% in the summer. But in the winter it's like 45-60%.

I use the 3 part floraseries by general hydroponics + some additives. I made a complete LECA guide where I talk about it more specifically

When you say pure hydro, do you mean just water + nutrient solution? I'm not too experienced with hydroponics by itself but I think you would be able to root your plants short term.
