Plasti Dip Removal - Testing Which Method Works Best!

Testing out 3 different methods of Plasti Dip removal techniques (WD-40, Tire Shine, & Goo Gone) to see which is most effective. I would highly advise you to cover your brakes before trying any of these methods to protect them from the chemicals in each product.
We decided to make this video to see if there's a good alternative to "Dip Remover" since it is on the expensive side of things and can also be a pain to order instead of using a household product.
We found the most effective method is to use WD-40, wait several minutes, then spray high pressure water on the wheel. The tire shine method is not advised, save your energy and pick a different method. Goo gone is a solid choice if you're taking the pressure washer route but without water, WD-40 takes the cake as our winner.

I am currently removing Plastic Dip from the original wheels of my car. Rubbing alcohol worked great in the large areas where it was applied thicker, and it peeled off in large pieces and I got most of it off this way. In the crevasses and areas where the dip was applied thinner I found paint thinner rapidly removed it with just a paper towel soaked with the thinner.

Next time u use googone, let it soak for about an hour, use a pressure washer at a self serve car wash, re apply and let sit for 15-20 minutes and spray again. Clean as new, did it today worked wonders.

i use goo gone sit 10 minutes then use power wash instead of rubbing with microfiber towel...make job easier.

My wheels are 5 spoke. and I just peel it off and it came off really easy, after 5 months of using it the faded a bit so I wanted to 're do them. But I had like 6 coats so that's probably why. Great Video tho !

In the bays we use the same shop rags and WD-40 to clean all the machinery it works great for lots of different things it seems

If you follow the instructions and use 3 or 4 heavy coats of plasti dip it should just peel off very easily.

With the Mini I would soak it in wd-40 and then get a water hose and spray it off. Work smart not hard!

Doesn't it dissolve in petrol? Just use a rag soaked in fuel?

+Eli Perez Technically yes but it's not good for the paint. I've seen people use it to remove light scratches but you'll need to make sure you wax/polish the area afterwards!

this is true. I've used goo gone and it left a mess. I used Mr. clean sponge and it works like a charm

The best thing to use for plasti dipped wheels is gasoline. it cuts away the dip instantly. Wouldn't reccommend on paint and must wash the wheel with a degreaser and water thoroughly

Almost every modern wheel is clear coated, if not painted. So, if you wouldn't use it on paint, don't use it on your wheel.

The Goo Gone works best for me. You have to let it sit for like 20 minutes so it will eat it away then use soapy water and a brush to wash it away. It'll just run off.

+Just D8vid2 We mainly attempted this to see if any product would work well enough without the use of water. I'm sure with your method both the goo gone and WD-40 would work well. I had never heard of the WD-40 method until this day so I figured why not give it a go and was thoroughly surprised.

Yeah these guys look like they never cleaned a thing in their life. Goo gone works best. DONT DO IT LIKE THESE 2. Spray let sit it'll melt off. If you can use a power washer with steam that would be even better.
