Great video! You are doing such good work for the community - not falling into toxicity but also not giving up or using clickbait title. I live that you try and take away the guilt that a lot of us feel if we use plastic - after all, the least wasteful thing is to use what you already have. ❤

I would HIGHLY recommend getting an electric Waterpik. Yes, It's plastic, but I've literally had mine for a decade. My routine is, initial flush with waterpik to blast out everything from between the teeth, then brushing, then flossing, then mouthwash.

The Waterpik is great for people who have tight/crowded teeth. I was unable to use regular floss and this has saved me -- plus there's no plastic waste.

I reuse those resealable frozen fruit bags to freeze bananas or other fresh fruits that are looking rough (just have to remember to label them well to prevent confusion)

Good to know. I eat frozen blueberries 🫐 and frozen pitted cherries in my breakfast during winter when we can’t get them. I noticed the bags have the ziplock so worth cleaning for reuse.

For me medical supplies are always a must. And that include tampons /pads if you cant use diva cups for any reasons. I still buy some vegetables in plastic cuz I cant find them plastic free.

I am a midwestern as well. I found that I am able to take most prescription bottles back to the pharmacy for recycling. Hy-Vee specifically will recycle.

Thanks for your video. I also like Wheat Thins, just learned recently they now have them in a larger size so it's ideal to have them thin cut apples or pears ..whatever toppings you want.

😅 Trading environmentalism for health is real. My food needs were already pretty "bad offenders" of because chronic illness (it takes mental & physical energy to cook!) but being diagnosed with celiac disease *obliterated* so many of my options. Even the bulk frozen vegetables I used to get say "may contain wheat" - what?!

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist Yes, unfortunately! Because celiac disease is an autoimmune disorder triggered by gluten - not just a gluten sensitivity - any exposure to wheat & other gluten causes internal damage. 🙈 It's a whole new ballgame, and a strict one with unwritten rules at that. (Ex. No oat ingredients unless they explicitly say gluten free because of cross contact with wheat! Eek!) I don't know who is out there exposing the frozen vegetables to wheat but they are wild ones.

wow! My SIL just got diagnosed so I want to be sure I'm cooking and baking for her accordingly. So for Celiac it's stricly no gluten but also no "may contain" gluten too? Cause May Contain is totally different as I also see with Vegan food. There may not be wheat in frozen veggies but it MAY contain wheat if it's produced in a facility that also uses wheat. @@findingagain

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalist (Sorry this is long and info packed.) Firstly, you are so, so kind for wanting to make sure your SIL can safely share food with you all! It is a lot of extra thinking and effort; it's really sweet to be so willing to take that on. For food statements: Unless it has a gluten free certification too it is safer to treat "may contain" statements as though the food does actually contain it. It's up to the person what risks they want to take really, but sustained reactions can catalyst more health conditions so many take the extra step. Certified foods have testing behind them to ensure gluten is at "safe" levels (the FDA says

I am really having a great time watching your content. I am definitely on a zero waste / plastic free journey and its so far from perfection. Wondering what you do about plastic food containers? I have read and listened to info that warns about how dangerous plastic is to use with food. I really would love to hear more perspectives about this. Thanks for all you do

I still use plastic cause it's what I have and it's most eco to use what you have. I am careful about putting hot food or warming up food in plastic though. This is your personal call for health though I cannot give health advice

I reuse my boyfriend's yogurt containers as plant pots! I take a hot glue gun (with no glue inside) and melt holes at the bottom!

Top advice for toothpaste- do NOT get toothpaste that has STANNOUS fluoride. It will all seem fine for a week or so, and then all of a sudden you’ll notice it is forming black stains on your teeth (it looks like your teeth are dirty!)! 😫 This happened to me years back (F U Crest 😒) and thankfully I noticed when it wasn’t really noticeable to others…catching it early saved me an extra trip to the dentist because the stains slowly wore away each day (from food, water, and brushing my teeth with regular SODIUM fluoride toothpaste) and were gone after a couple of weeks. Highly recommend fluoride toothpaste from Hello products or The Humble Co.! Both are cruelty-free and vegan (I’m not totally sure if 100% of their products are so be sure to check ingredients as usual).

I also love and eat a lot of hummus, and although I try to occasionally make it homemade to reduce the plastic waste, it's still not the same or as convenient as getting the premade hummus :(

Always appreciate your transparency and support. Kaylaan has plastic-free toothpaste tablets with fluoride - maybe worth checking out if it's enough %? Also are you saying that purple hair dye worked on your brown hair without bleach?? I can never find a purple dye that takes to my brown hair.

Those fruit clamshells aren’t recyclable to my knowledge. In fact, nothing plastic and square shaped is recyclable in my own surrounding states. Please, everyone, check your local rules. The square thing is rarely mentioned.

they're a plastic #1 which is accepted in my area and most areas. But I would love to see some research on this, do you have any sources?

Not recyclable in the Columbus area, unfortunately. My environmental science class takes a trip to the landfill each year, and that is always something that gets specifically mentioned.

@@TheSimpleEnvironmentalistdon’t wanna criticize but such containers are often plastic 6. They literally can be made out of two different materials either no 1 or number 6. People often confuse them and you have to be careful with them .

I love to see these kind of videos from folks normalizing doing your best and making choices. I feel you in the dental care...not so much cavities but gums, ha. I've used toothpaste tabs and tubes (with fluroide), but now I'm strictly plastic tubes of both Rx toothpaste and not Rx (but I can't just buy my Toms anymore). Plus mouthwash regularly, so I'm buying the big bottles. I do use Terracycle for some of that plastic personal care packaging (toothpaste tubes and deodorant for me, but I also keep my collection box in my little office to encourage co-workers). I'm intrigued by the reusable floss pick and will check that out one day. I have a mix of my "eco" floss and the free floss from the dentist to work through first. That's a money choice for me right now - my budget self says yes to the "free" floss and toothpaste from the dentist.

The other day I dived into the vegan butter and vegan cheeses world and I discouvered a few scary truths about them, I was a bit shocked at what I was looking at, how they are produced, all about the plant oils, they say that are not natural, to your system to digest, have you dived into discovering what plant based, and plant oils look like, in the beggining? They say that they mix that shit with pretol, so that the butter and cheesses turn that gold, I just saw a bunch of videos of them, they're black, like similar to black oil of a engine car, like horrific to look at, and they have to put petrol so the butter and everything else that uses plant oils turns to the buttery gold like appearance, vegetable oil, sunflowers oil. That you are overloading your system with B12, that is not natural for the humam digestive system to process in those quantities. Like it's not about being anti-vegan diet, I was just looking around to informing myself about different types of diets, they are so many. And so many conspiracy teories too 😅😅! About the deodorant, I tried to use like that type deodorant block, but it a paper cartridge, and in the summer, it melted, cause of the heat, I bought it online, and it was all melted when I got it, from the transport, I tried to use it with my fingers do, for me it's no practicle has a man who has hairy pits, it doesn't stick to your skin, stays in the hairs, glues to your clothes, it's messy. So I just use spray deodorants...
