Non-hollow plateless boards have some of the best sound and feel of anything out there. Can be hard to achieve, but still im happy that things are beginning to move in that direction and that vendors are giving us more plateless options in general.

Think I’m going to build my Mode Sixty Five with a half plate for some of that soft bouncy goodness feel. That key that’s not placed perfectly would drive me nuts too…..

There's flex cuts on that PCB so that would be a pretty fun experience! Yeah I legit get to keep the Wave and I might just take my Oil kings out and use something else.. I was kind of tolerant of it when I thought it was just using the hotswap PCB.. and then I realized it's the PCB itself. It's a hard pass.

Hey, it's my first time on your channel. I first saw you at Switch & Click's when she did that loudest keyboard, lol. I loved your mic there & was wondering what mic you were using, them light bars behind you & just, your general set-up, I suppose. I'm about to set up my office/gaming room & I loved how your mic in that vid delivered your voice. Have you done a video on setting up an office/gaming room yet? If not, could you perhaps make one? XD

I think part of the reason I like you as a content creator is because you share what you like and dislike in keyboards in your videos. Not all the top content creators in the keyboard hobby try to do that because they always make a review sound positive (most recently a zoom65 review made me think of this). Doesn't ever feel like you're holding back an opinion for the sake of being brand friendly. Keep it up man :)

My first time experiencing a plate-less build was with the Cherry 1800, the only real concern is cleaning out all the cheeto dust and skin flakes LOL

Salutations Andy! Very nice video about plateless configurations… Which reminds me, did you know that today’s marshmallows do not use any mallow root? Instead they use gelatin to replace it’s gooey properties. They had to stop using the root in marshmallows as it was labeled a medicinal herb. How big of a change would it make to switch back to the mallow root, if any?

Will you be trying out the Alexa by maker keyboards? It's a plateless gasket mount 65% and is under 300$ rn. It claims to have a viable hotswap plateless solution with kaihl v2 hotswap sockets. Interested to see your thoughts on the board.

Plateless has an awesome typing feel. The only thing that i dont love is that you can hear a bit reverb from the vibration of the pcb and i think i can hear it louder in Wave88 than 7v that im currently using.

Might not be the same but currently rocking a plateless KBD67 Lite :D Feels a lot softer and actually has a more pleasant sound. Also made the keyboard sound "fuller"

God. I have built thera75 which is plateless poly carb. It does not line up as well. I would love it if it didnt rub against the board itself. I bought aftermarket fr4 half-plate. That fixed most issues. Sounds amazing after.

I'm going to be building on half-plate for the first time when my Typ65+ comes in so I don't have prior experience - how is durability on these half-plate/plateless builds? Wont the pressure from your fingers eventually introduce bends on the PCB, especially if it has a ton of flex cuts like this one? Also curious that you said it was more rigid in the middle, I would have expected it to almost sink down in the center, away from the mounting points on the sides.

Fr4 as a material can take the deflection and retain its shape. I have not had issues of it bending and not returning

I agree with you. the weight really looks ugly with that cursive writing. Should use a more standard font or some sort of logo or even if it's plain mirror surface would have look more premium. At this price point, they should have spend a little more thought on the weight (the only accent to an otherwise generic tkl look). What do you think about the Velvet keyboard? It seems like the mounting style you like and a very clean mirror polished stainless steel weight. Do you think it's worth the $399 price tag? Hope to hear your opinion. Thanks.

@@IronCan88 using the scarlet with Tungstens, nice sound and pretty good feel, have the Alexa coming as well, have used a phantom but the board didn't feel right to me, still nice. But baring in mind the Alexa was meant to ship in October and still hasn't finished production let alone quality checks etc, probably not gonna get it until q3 this year

I was considering scarlet (though no A stock), but then saw the freebird and then I wonder if it's worthwhile, or should I just save money and get freebird which include durock stabs and carry case. Both are minimalist looking TKL, so I just don't know if there is difference major enough. I currently have kbd8x mkii...I know it's just basic top mount design, but so far sounds good with the boba u4t and PE foam, nice typing feel as well. Just in this hobby we are always exploring something new and different. Velvet looks premium, but price is up there as well. Sigh, what an expensive hobby.

Just realised that you never really mentioned the Jelly Epoch in your list of 75%s. Am i a dum dum and didnt know you sold it or is there a reason you dont really like it anymore. Asking cos i plan to buy an SSE aftermarket which is kinda sad but the board is so frickin nice (to me)

They’re generally the same. I wouldn’t sell my ink v2 to buy oil king. Oil king factory lube is too wild

I have no idea why hotswap plateless is even offered as an option. This is obviously going to be wobbly. Plateless keyboards should have nothing but a soldered PCB

I know that people often advise against using tactile switches on a plateless board, but I was wondering what your thoughts were on using light tactiles, something like browns or the corsa switches? Have you tried it before?

Glad you continue to bring up the ugly weight - I don't understand Oasis' resistance to the consistent feedback that their weight font/text is ugly everywhere they post it. It seems like such an easy thing to change too!

@@AndyVNguyen I understand, but it's not a good argument. You're offering a product for the first time to a new market - there's nothing unfair about it. That's like thinking it's unfair that Fanta in the US is different than it is in the EU. It's not unfair, it's just different and that's ok... especially when it's a positive change. V2/R2 makes no difference since there literally is no R1 in this market. Obviously that ship has sailed, but I think that the unwillingness to address customer feedback is an issue for a new studio.

Its funny people are coming toward plateless now because cherry's own designed keyboard from 40 years ago and that are still in production (Cherry G80) are all plateless and the pcb is just hanging in there with clips, there are no screws. The MX switches were not designed for plate originally either. The pressure of the plate in fact can impact the performance of the switch negatively.

I mean it's cool but I believe these plateless boards should have an option for plate. It would cover more of the spectrum of keeb lovers. Imo plate and plateleess is nice when both options are there. But hey this is cool and nice. The board isn't my style which is rare when it comes to tkls I like pretty much everyone of them but that logo and weight man just not my thing lol. I can see people who are all about feel liking this one for sure.

It won’t break the hotswap socket any more than with plate. Just need to make sure you insert it straight.

Bounce flex isn’t an issue.. it’s just a preference. But yes, if you use a plate, it will bounce less

So i’d REEALLLY like to see a clacky switch in this. I’m pretty interested in this board as I’ve never tried plateless. I wonder if the clack would be something that’s pretty pronounced or muted because these oil kings sound pretty quiet to me. Not a bad sound though. It’s nice and I’ll still!
