Seventeen was used as a metaphor for being on the verge of adulthood. It was phonetically better than any other age to use for that purpose. And becoming an adult was paramount to kids back then.
Fleetwood Mac performed until the death of Christine McVie...keyboardist, vocalist and songwriter. After she passed away, Mick Fleetwood said the band would no longer perform. Christine was the one that held the band together for years through all the drama between Stevie and Lindsey!!! R.I.P. sweet songstress!!💜💜🎵🎼🎶🎙🎧🎹🎤🥁🎸🔥
Stevie went single because she was such a prolific song writer, but Fleetwood Mac was full of songwriters. So she needed an outlet for all the songs she wrote.
As a musician, Stevie had a great impact on my work. Stevie said that at 5ft tall, she had to wear clothes with big movement, so people could see her. I'm with you about the lost art of tambourines. Stevie was a heck of a tambourine player. My mother was a recording artist in the 70's and tambourines were a must for her on stage. In fact, she won several competitions for it so I was blessed to have her lay the tambourine work on my albums. Stevie never really left Fleetwood Mac, she just branched out. She once said that in a group like that, there were so many talented songwriters that a lot of her work wouldn't be heard if she didn't also have her own career. Prince actually co-wrote an awesome song with Stevie called "Stand Back", which was a great success. If you want some EPIC leg kicks, check out Crazy on You and Never, by heart. Nancy Wilson perfected it. I caught a couple spots of you on FUQ Boys with Black Pegasus and thought I'd check out your channel. Glad I did!!
Stevie did write a lot of songs, but everybody forgets Christine McVie wrote a lot of them too. My personal favorite of hers being "Songbird". RIP Christine❤
You get chills because Stevie is a goddess. There’s no one like her. ❤❤❤ And, things happened at a younger age back then. Not saying it was right, but times were different.
I have loved Stevie Nicks from when I was a teenager, the voice, the attitude the style, she had everything I wanted to be. I used to get picked on as a black girl listening to rock and everything else in the 80s, glad to see you youngsters reacting to everything. I also love when your wife joins you on these videos, hope to see more!
Stevie is queen and she’s still rocking at 76. She is talking about the EDGE of 17…in other words , just about to turn 18….legal. She will be the musical guest on SNL October 12.
@@IsHeadQuarters17 is the end of teenage years, 18 old enough to be responsible for yourself and be on your own. Most were self sufficient by 15 in those days though
Philly old lady here...we hitchhiked to concerts all over the country, starting at 12yrs old. No one cared where we were. No one! I had my own place by age 16. Had my first son at 19. We were grown by 13. Had my own studio, did light and sound shows by 16.
@@johnlombardo7816Quite normal then. You pretty much took care of yourself. Come home to eat maybe. By 15 you had life experience of a 25 year old today. Having life skills and common sense before adulthood.
@@91GT347 i guess that makes sense.. prob why my parents waited until i was 14 or so before I was allowed to leave our block/town on my bike 🤣🤣 all the things they did much younger in the 60s, they wanted to prevent me from doing.. didnt work 🤣🤣
This came out in 81. 60s, 70s and early 80s parents were ok with it. You haven't hit "glam rock" yet but when you do please react to Sweet's Ballroom Blitz. Thank you much love
Stevie,,,, the Queen of female rockers. Best ever. Refered to as the white witch. Her music is so mystical and magical. Her haunting powerful voice captivates.
Stevie is an absolute force of nature...there's a good reason she was inducted to the rock Hall of Fame twice...with Fleetwood Mac and as a solo artist :💗
Stevie is a tiny little thing. She is so sweet, an animal lover, and she taught me how to get rid of my hiccups! lol. She is a precious commodity both as a person and an artist. ☮️❤️🎼😎
Stevie is/was one of 3 main songwriters/lead singers in Fleetwood Mac. She, as well as others in the band, had/have solo careers while also continuing to be a part of the band. She has said in interviews that her main reason for doing a solo career alongside performing in the band was because she had written more songs than could possibly fit on the band's albums, given that she was sharing that space with other singer/songwriters.
Stevie wasn’t “the” lead singer of Fleetwood Mac, she was *one of three singer/songwriters*, along with Lindsey Buckingham (guitar player) and Christine McVie (piano, keyboards). Besides the love-gone-wrong tensions between Stevie and Lindsey , and Christine and John McVie (bassist), and Stevie’s affair with Mick Fleetwood (drummer), etc … the BIG source of tension was having THREE prolific singer/songwriters, and not enough room for everything they created for the band.
JUST WATCHED LIVE TV FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A FEW WEEKS! They took a commercial break and the first one to air was that Apple commercial with your song Genius. Congrats on that kind of respect. I know plenty of people have mentioned or talked about you and respected you but having Apple, one of the largest COMPANIES in the world see your song and respect it enough to use it to advertise their product is insane… What an amazing accomplishment!
The record is from 1981 in December of 1980, Stevie Nicks suffered two blows: John Lennon was gunned down in New York City and her uncle John died after a long battle with cancer. The trauma and grief of the two events inspired her hit “Edge of Seventeen.” the song is about loss and grief not sex .
😊Love that you finally go to witness Stevie solo before diving into the Fleetwood Mac catalogue!!💯 Stevie is a goddess, with or without Fleetwood Mac. Period. She's had me under her spell since I was six years old in 1976... I heard her song with Fleetwood Mac "RHIANNON". It did me in as a little girl. I've been a fan ever since.🤗 GO DOWN THE FLEETWOOD MAC and STEVIE NICKS rabbit hole, starting with their mega hit "RHIANNON (written by Stevie😉) performed LIVE on the Midnight Special in 1976... you will not be disappointed! The catalogue and history behind the music is as real as it gets!!! They are human just like the rest of us... Anyway, beautiful reaction!! Made my night. Peace and light to all...💞
heard an interview with her where she explained the song was really about the death of her grandfather, and the boy on the edge of 17 was a nephew. the hauntingly familiar song was because when she was in the hospital elevator, the music playing was a Fleetwood Mac song. she would go daily to visit her grandfather as they had always been very close.
1981 Cow Palace in San Francisco. I was stationed at Fort Ord . Went to my first concert. Ever , front row .Stevie handed me a Rose 🌹 🤪 wow talk beautiful lady and kind 😍 . Yeah fox is a understatement 😊 and her voice just has no match . Until Grace Vanderwaal 🙏 both are beautiful people. The Texas Gent 🙌 be blessed yall 🙏
I absolutely love her. My mom and I saw her a couple of years ago and she is amazing live. This song really gets the ladies excited. But my all time favorite of hers is gold dust woman. She brought out a gold shaw she said was several years old and still in one piece when she performed it. I loved watching her twirl cause it's just so iconic for her.
I love Stevie Nicks! My fav song she performed is "Rhiannon" and she will always be my favorite female artist/singer/songwriter. I think that she is singing "I hear the call of a night bird". Thanks Krizz!!
Originally, Fleetwood Mac only wanted Lindsey Buckingham to play the guitar. He and Stevie were together at the time, and he wouldn't join the band without her. Many years later, she did the CMT show Crossroads with Lady A. Hillary Scott was gushing about how much the members of her band love each other and how they never fight. I'm sure over the course of your career, you've observed that that's a rather unusual thing. Bands fight. And she asked Stevie if that had been the case for her with Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie was like, God, no. There was a time when all the couples were splitting up and no one wanted to be together at all, not even to make music.
I turned 13 in 1980, I WAS THERE when it comes to tunes. Stevie and Tina just kept getting better and better. It was an amazing time for music. *this is the one and only time you will see her kick -- "said it cocaine, mama." *they used every instrument in rock back then; piano and sax were in every other song. Now we get synthesizers.
There were three songwriters in Fleetwood Mac. Stevie, Lindsey, and Christine. Stevie went solo because she had so many songs and not enough space on the album. She wanted to get her songs out. Stevie didn't quit Fleetwood Mac to go solo, she did her album while still in the band. She started touring with her solo album and Fleetwood Mac wanted to start working so she cut her tour off and went back. She said she always wanted to be in the band. *named after Mick Fleetwood and John McVie
Yes!!!! The Queen, Stevie Nicks!!!!! 🔥 Have had the honor to see Stevie in concert solo and with Fleetwood Mac ❤️. Took our son with us to see Fleetwood Mac when he was about 14 and he seemed so so about it. He’s 32 now, and what’s one of his favorite groups? Fleetwood Mac. My job as a Mother is done 😂😂😂
Stevie was my girl crush when I was younger 😅 and I saw Fleetwood Mac in the early 90s and she was just as gorgeous as ever. Stop dragging my heart around with Tom Petty is a banger too. Great reaction and Peace out ✌️ ☮️ 🙏
17 was the end of teenage years, in 70s and prior, we were raise to be self sufficient at 15, moreso than kids are today. Just like the previous generations many would quit school and go work to help support the family unit or as join the military, yes they lied about thier age to enlist, they would send most of thier pay back home. This was also a time door's( homes/cars) were left unlocked, it was common to respect other people's property.
First of all, Stevie wrote some of the songs, and was one of three lead singers for Fleetwood Mac which was named for both Mick Fleetwood (drummer), and John McVie (bass guitarist), a combination of their names. ✌🏼😎🇺🇸
She is a siren. I remember being on the edge of seventeen ( in the 80's). I became an adult at 17. I graduated from high school and left for boot camp eight days later.
Stevie and guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, were a duo prior to joining the band. They were also a couple. She got with the drummer. There were lots of drugs involved and the band basically imploded. They reunited in 1994 for a live VH1 concert that is a must watch.
Stevie is an icon! The voice is just simply one that is so easily recognizable & haunting. Great artists like Stevie captivate us and chills are a sign that what you are seeing & hearing is special. You are witnessing greatness! Many songs were written about underage relationships well before the 80's. Kiss had "Christine Sixteen", Ringo Starr - "You're Sixteen", The Beatles - "I Saw Her Standing There", Rolling Stones - "Stray Cat Blues". In the 80's: Stray Cats - "She's Sexy & 17", Winger - "She's Only 17" and the list goes on.
OMG! Was that Waddy Wachtel on guitar in the blue shirt? Where have I been all my life?!? I knew he played with the more folk music crowd, but never realized he played with Stevie and Fleetwood! Man! Those session guys got around. He and Leland Sklar were EVERYWHERE!
There was a time 18 was adulthood. Could get drafted/join the army, drinking legally, etc. Hence the "edge", reference to 17 in the day. As to you being an artist and touring, you'll appreciate the song "The Load Out and Stay" live on BBC in 1978 by Jackson Browne.
Stevie, Lindsey and Christine all wrote songs for Fleetwood Mac..... Stevie had an overflow of songs that weren't used, so just to get them out there she went and did her own record, but was still a part of Fleetwood Mac, just like she always was! She got famous on her own, and also did duets with other artists like Tom Petty and Glen Frey.....but always came back to do records with Fleetwood Mac! The drama with the band was all the couples were going thru brake ups and divorces at the time but said they would still stay with the band!
My hubby and I saw Stevie in concert in the mid 2000s. Her voice was still perfect and she looked amazing. The shawl is her trademark attire. Nobody could spin on stage like Stevie. ❤
Been a fan of yours for about 20 years. It’s crazy you’re reviewing Stevie lately. She’s on all my favorite playlists. There is something special about her songwriting and vocal melodies that is addictive to me. Her discography is so big, I keep discovering new songs by her from the 80s and 90s. Bewitching for real.
A little tambourine, a little sax, and flute. Bri all back. The 80s were known for saxophone solos and now all we have is guitar solos. All the great musicians used of musical instruments in the majority of musicians could play them all.
That outfit was being used as a prop for the somg actually! The song is White Winged Dove!! She spreads that out & it looks like a dove flying. Love me some Stevie Nicks!! ❤
Loving this channel seeing u react to all the classics is awesome the other day ur son did a reaction to the Eurythmics and the little guy actually knew the song that was awesome love how even ur kids like classic music great job!
Stevie is wonderful, but give props to Waddy Wachtel, the long-haired guitarist in the back, providing that insistent, magical sound for the entire song.
This is one of my favorite songs of hers in her solo career. Great to move to and her backup singers really enhance this song as well! And just the stamina of the drummer and the guitar to keep going at that tempo?! Amazing performance!
she's inducted in the rock and roll hall of fame twice.. if i may make a suggestion, look up Lindsay Buckingham's solo performance of "Big love" then you know why Fleetwood Mack had to hire two guitarists to fill in for him after he left the band.
I'm white and penecostal holiness. We've always had tambourines as part of the music. We've had spoons, jug players, and instruments I don't even know the name of. Music is a big part of worship in penecostal churches.
I was named after Lindsey.. and all our pet dogs growing up were named after fleetwood mac songs lol.. my parent did lots of cover songs of em in their band.. tooooo many obviously 😂
We went to work as soon as possible and were ready to run our own world, by 18 we had been earning a paycheck for several years. Most graduated at 18. I graduated at 16, and moved out on my own.
The thing about the microphones is that they were all different in the way they reproduced vocals and instruments. Your voice sounded different depending on the design, it could be warmer, it could cut back or enhance the sound of the vocals and instruments.
Stevie Nicks, Carole King and Tina Turner are the only three female artists in history, that have been inducted into Rock'n'Roll hall of fame twice. I think Stevie was the first one ever. She is also considered to be one of the best Rock song writters ever. You should 100% check out her performance of ''Rihannon'' (a song she wrote), as a member of Fleetwood Mack, Live on Midnight Special 1976. It is MIND BLOWING. Probably Fleetwood's best live performance ever.
Actually, Russ Kunkel is playing the drums for Stevie on this song. Another great song from this same album is Leather and Lace. Don Henley (from the Eagles) joins her as a duet of this song. It’s one of my absolute favorites. 🤟
